Thank you for the additional tips, Juli! I am an RA at an assisted living, I already do extra hand washing and hand sanitizing, but even more than usual now. My cuticles are in rough shape and I have a bunch of hangnails, and I barely have time to moisturize. I have a few days off from work now, so I'm going to pamper the heck out of them. Stay safe and healthy, dear! ❤️💅👋
Guys.. please please please leave your cuticles alone. While they may not always be aesthetically pleasing, cuticles actually protect your nail bed. Every time you trim your cuticles, you run the risk of giving yourself microcuts that will allow contaminants like bacteria and fungi into your body. Those, in turn, can cause an infection. So please let them be.
Until about 18 months ago, I was a serious nail-biter, but I finally stopped and started growing them out. At first, they were as thin and bendy as paper, but I started using Onyx Hard As Hoof cream on and around and under my nails every night before bed, and also Cuccio Pomegranate and Fig cuticle oil during the day. Neither is expensive (the Onyx cream is under $8/jar and the oil is around $9/bottle) and one container of each will last you FOREVER. My nails now are soooo much stronger and nicer-looking.
I also have long and beautiful nails 💅 I wash my hands before I brush inside of my nails with mild shampoo then I swipe it off I apply vasline petroleum jelly on my nails it's really helpful me to maintain my nails. At it makes my nails grow Faster.. thank you for this tips god bless you ❤
Good vid during this time ! My hands and cuticles are very dry and I’m hydrating everyday but all the washing is tuff on them ! Trying to use something extra hydrating at night! Lush Lemony Flutter , Burts Bees 🐝 cuticle balm oil excetra , but using sugar scrubs before hydration has been the most effective way to combat the dryness tfs ❣️
Great tips, I really enjoyed that you are helping support small businesses that you love. I had not heard of a few of them and am going to def check out some of your suggestions so TFS!!!!
Thanks for a practical video: so helpful to make nail/hand care lower key! Could you provide a little more about the soft buffer block? I tried to see a brand but missed it.
For cleaning my nails prior to applying nail polish etc, I use lemon washing up liquid, (dish soap to you guys across the pond 🙂), or Cif Lemon Cream, or toothpaste, with an electric toothbrush with a small round head. They do the job nicely, degrease my hands and nails, and get the tips white.
here are a couple more tips that someone may find useful: 1) if you have a peel-off base coat or other peel-off nail polish, i find that's great for avoiding using nail polish remover (that's actually the reason i decided to get a peel-off base coat in the first place; this was before all the covid-19 stuff started), which is especially useful if you're getting dry skin. i have the ünt peel-off base coat and i find that it doesn't leave my nails feeling stripped or dry afterwards; if anything, they actually seem more hydrated and healthy. peel-off stuff naturally doesn't last super long, but i've always tended to wash my hands a lot for a long time, and peel-off base coat manicures typically last me at least 3-4 days and sometimes up to a week. sometimes i put another base coat on top of the peel-off base coat. i don't know if it really makes any difference though lol. 2) if you have gel polishes, they're pretty good for strengthening your nails and preventing breakage, since gel polishes harden when cured. 3) another tip, although maybe not widely applicable, is if you have a nail polish you don't like or don't wear and you're low on nail polish remover or acetone, you can cover your current nail polish with the one you don't like, which essentially adds more solvent and allows you to re-liquify and then wipe off the majority of the nail polish you were wearing. the remainder can be removed with nail polish remover or acetone. it's sort of a weird/niche thing i guess, but it works if you're in a (very specific) pinch and don't mind wasting some nail polish. i have a nail polish that's several years old and has faded to a really ugly color (in my opinion) and i used it a few times when i forgot to put on peel-off base coat underneath my regular nail polish.
Thank you som much for the video! I'm suffering fromreally sticky cuticules and a really flake-prone nailbed, so I'll have to try some kind of cuticule remover for sure! The only thing I would like to add, is to NOT use vegetable/olive oil! It certainly does feel like the olive oil helps moisturise, but IN THE LONG RUN it actually DRIES your skin. It's a very common problem for patients with psoriasis (a skin condition where the dry layer is very thick and can't fall off normally), who want to relieve the itchyness. It makes the dryness worse. You don't have to buy an expensive, special oil, a middle price moisturiser is great as well and it will be enough for a loooong time.
I've found that using Seche Vite (cheap because I get the giant bottle from Amazon) followed by polish followed by Seche Vite (with a fresh coat about every other day) lasts forever (well past the 10 days for me to get totally bored with that color) and gets thick enough for me to gently peel off after I massage in whatever oil I have around (like jojoba or coconut). It works great! My nails are reasonably long (I file them down weekly to 1/8" of free edge weekly) and they do NOT break or split. PS I work in a hospital and let one of my coworkers swab under them and culture the swab and nothing grew more or differently than the swabs from her short-haired fingertips, pretty much proving that it IS pretty easy to keep long-ish nails clean using good handwashing technique.
Cutlery and tweezer handles can sometimes be used as cuticle pushers. The tip of a small kitchen knife can be used to scrape off dead skin from the nail plate. Holding the blade near the tip gives very good control.
Long nails look pretty but everything keeps getting stuck in them and I see so many people with like nails almost as long as they're pinky finger and I just wonder how they eat or even use the bathroom 💀
Thank you so much for this video! My nails are naturally strong and healthy but oh boy my cuticles... Whenever I'm anxious I pick my cuticles and hangnails and now the skin around my nails os dry and ugly. I didn't know how to clean those but now you helped me! thank you
I love you videos on natural nails!!! I Love doing my own mani-pedi’s!! I always do my own. Love the white polish added to a top clear polish. Would have never thought of that??? Coco nut oil I love as well for my dry cuticles!!! Thank you. Are their any at home gel polish one can do without harming the natural nail?? I have seen kits on Amazon- one was called- “gellen”? I would not mind doing a gel nail my polish, never stays for very long. I have always been obsessed with hand washing!! Take care!! ❣️👍
Whenever i use a stick or whatever to remove or push back my cuticles, my cuticles always end up "lifting" or becoming "raised" and then i feel compelled to peel them off or pick at them, which i know its not the point. So sometimes i just leave them alone but then they look disgusting with all that skin on the nail and i feel compelled to use the stick again and the cycle repeats 😂 I dont even know what im doing wrong... But im trying, and these vids are defo helpful so ill keep trying until i learn to so it properly haha. Thx, Juli! U da best!
I mean that's a lot for me. What do I use as a guy who doesn't want to draw attention to his nails? Like a matt polish or base coat? What's the difference? I bite mine trying to stop and grow them a little more. Still would prefer them short as I actually hate the feel of them.
Beautiful nails. I have fungus on my nails they look so bad and its spreading. What can l use? My work involves touching water three quarters of my time, gloves are not helping much.
Your nails are so good, i have one doubt, my fifth finger bending when i keep my all fingers straight, and my hands are small too and my nail beds are not good, overall it looks bad and when i straight my finger my tip of my finger is bending, it feels awkward.... Pls help me... 😩😩
It happens with 2 of my fingers when they get long. I think its about genetics. But heard strengthening ur nails might make them better in some extend.
Hiii - any advice for peeling? It’s been plaguing my or my whole life since I was a teenager. I keep thinking I’ll find a magic bullet or some kind of cure ... help? I use jojoba in those little refillable pens, and body butter on my hands. Thanks and stay safe out there 🤓
probably your nail tech didn't do your gels properly? mine lasted for 1 month and I don't use super hot water always , room temperature water would be fine and it prevents from lifting/chipping your gels.
I had nice nails....like they weren't round or small type but they were long type (not that i grew them)idk how to explain this but my nails aren't round... but then i developed nail biting habits.😑😑

Gah no! You should never cut your "cuticle," which isn't actually called the epnoycium(sp). It is living skin and meant to stay attached and should only be gently pushed back and moisturized daily. Yikes
