The Term Asia has its Origins with different White Peoples. It's a Greek and Roman Term that stems from Hittite "Assuwa" which they originally called their Homeland which encompasses most of modern Day Turkey. The Greeks coined that Region as Asia Minor while they and Romans expanded the Term of Asia to Lands further East. The Yellow/East Asian Tribes didn't refer to their Land as such. Asia is composed of 3 different Groups of People: White People (indigenous to European and Ugrian Russia, West Asia, most of Central Asia, and the Northwestern Mountain Region of South Asia). Yellow People (indigenous to East Asia which includes China, the Himalayan Mountains, Japan, Korea, Mongolia, the Altai Mountains, and about 70% of Siberia). Black People (indigenous to Australasia which includes most of South Asia, most of Southeast Asia, Taiwan, Oceania, and Australia). That doesn't include Northwestern Region known as Europe (originally inhabited by White Peoples) that's connected to Asia or how the Sinai Peninsula connects Asia to Saharan Africa which is originally inhabited by White Peoples while the Sahel and Subsaharan Africa were originally inhabited by Black Peoples.
You're not racially asian though. You're considered racially south-caucasian (or just caucasian) - Caucasian means someone from the Caucasus (an area between Europe and Asia). Iranians are genetically considered caucasian and share similar phenotypes with other caucasian populations. 'White' race is flawed within itself. 100 years ago even the Irish weren't considered white!

I say technically almost all Iranians are Caucasian. However it depends on your looks in the west. If you are brown you will likely never be considered white. The light skin Iranians are definitely considered white here in most circumstances.

In other parts of the world 'Asian' doesnt default to East / South East Asian. While it's not used as a primary identifier, Iranians in Iran generally wouldn't have a problem saying they're Asian.

Even the border between Asia and Europe changed several times until they decided to take the Ural, although in many parts it is rather flat, no one would even take such altitude into consideration as a natural border. Seems like Iranians with their Persian population are mostly tall or taller on average then a majority of European ethnicities in Europe IMO or the tall people of western Asia and look alot like Europeans. There are other tall populations in Asia as well like with the Punjabi of Pakistan and northwest India that look semi European or the tall people of central Asia and with East Asia the tall people are the Han Chinese in mostly northern provinces of China. Most other Asians, especially in south central and southeast Asia are short on average when compared to Europeans.
Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan were part of Bactrian-Greco Kingdom, these are just expanded European clans that became Muslims after Arab Islamic conquest. That also explains whey they look Caucasian with Roman noses. That also explains why Alexander the Great & their clan would visit, they used to be a European outpost. As a half Iranian, I have experienced people assuming that I'm white more times than I can count. On the surface, it makes perfect sense to make this assumption. My family has white skin and I have more European features. But, what many do not know is that I have a deep appreciation for my Iranian heritage.
I'm Canadian, but also half Persian, and most people never would guess that, so I understand. Then again, most Iranians don't have that dark a skin tone so it's not easy to tell. Even people who are fully Persian, are still confused as being Italian or Greek very often. For the purposes of a census though, white is probably a better choice than Asian, which has somehow come to mean just east-Asian, even though the Greek word Ἀσία first used by Herodotus was likely in reference to the Persian Empire 😆

Living in Los Angeles, I have met and seen many Persian people. Some of them look very European. Some of them look more Indian. It's the same for the Lebanese people I've met and seen. Likewise, Armenians I've met and seen in LA/Glendale predominantly look European. I don't know what the best solution is but the racial classification in the census is outdated, and at least there should be a box for Middle Eastern people group.

Also, the race of Iranians is mixed with Caucasian, West Asian, Central Asian, Middle eastern (Arab) depending on the region. Generally people from northern provinces look more Caucasian (as in from the region of Caucasus) but the morr south and southeast you go it gets darker skinned and look more Indian. Iranians are not a homogenous people. The original Indo-Iranians from the Sintashta & Andronovo Cultures were white - descended from migrants from the Corded Ware Culture of Northern Europe. These Indo-Iranians then eventually mixed with the darker-skinned indigenous inhabitants of Central Asia (BMAC) & Iran (Elamites). Later you would have invasions from Greeks, Arabs, Turks, & Mongols, as well as the importation of African & Slavic slaves. All of these people left a genetic footprint. Iranians can often look different based on what ancestry they have more of. Some Iranians are White. Some are Asian.

Middle Eastern would probably be the best category. White usually denotes being of ethnic European heritage rather than necessarily being white skinned and having 'European' features as some Arabs, Turks, Iranians, Central Asians ans South Asians can easily pass as being white. Iran is technically in Asia but Middle Eastern is probably more precise as Asian can mean different things in different parts of the world.

The Term Asia has its Origins with different White Peoples. It's a Greek and Roman Term that stems from Hittite "Assuwa" which they originally called their Homeland which encompasses most of modern Day Turkey. The Greeks coined that Region as Asia Minor while they and Romans expanded the Term of Asia to Lands further East. The Yellow/East Asian Tribes didn't refer to their Land as such.
Asia is composed of 3 different Groups of People:
White People (indigenous to European and Ugrian Russia, West Asia, most of Central Asia, and the Northwestern Mountain Region of South Asia).
Yellow People (indigenous to East Asia which includes China, the Himalayan Mountains, Japan, Korea, Mongolia, the Altai Mountains, and about 70% of Siberia).
Black People (indigenous to Australasia which includes most of South Asia, most of Southeast Asia, Taiwan, Oceania, and Australia).

I say technically almost all Iranians are Caucasian. However it depends on your looks in the west. If you are brown you will likely never be considered white. The light skin Iranians are definitely considered white here in most circumstances.

Seems like Iranians with their Persian population are mostly tall or taller on average then a majority of European ethnicities in Europe IMO or the tall people of western Asia and look alot like Europeans. There are other tall populations in Asia as well like with the Punjabi of Pakistan and northwest India that look semi European or the tall people of central Asia and with East Asia the tall people are the Han Chinese in mostly northern provinces of China. Most other Asians, especially in south central and southeast Asia are short on average when compared to Europeans.
Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan were part of Bactrian-Greco Kingdom, these are just expanded European clans that became Muslims after Arab Islamic conquest. That also explains whey they look Caucasian with Roman noses. That also explains why Alexander the Great & their clan would visit, they used to be a European outpost. As a half Iranian, I have experienced people assuming that I'm white more times than I can count. On the surface, it makes perfect sense to make this assumption. My family has white skin and I have more European features. But, what many do not know is that I have a deep appreciation for my Iranian heritage.
I'm Canadian, but also half Persian, and most people never would guess that, so I understand. Then again, most Iranians don't have that dark a skin tone so it's not easy to tell. Even people who are fully Persian, are still confused as being Italian or Greek very often. For the purposes of a census though, white is probably a better choice than Asian, which has somehow come to mean just east-Asian, even though the Greek word Ἀσία first used by Herodotus was likely in reference to the Persian Empire

Living in Los Angeles, I have met and seen many Persian people. Some of them look very European. Some of them look more Indian. It's the same for the Lebanese people I've met and seen. Likewise, Armenians I've met and seen in LA/Glendale predominantly look European. I don't know what the best solution is but the racial classification in the census is outdated, and at least there should be a box for Middle Eastern people group.

There are certain Persians that do indeed look straight up White, but i think for the majority of us it is silly and embarrasing to say that, black hair, brown eyes, swarthy asiatic features - White should be a reserved ethnic distinction for Europeans, especailly Western Europeans.

However, I have seen SOME northern pakistanis and indians who resemble or could pass as iranian/turk/greek. But they're not the majority of india and pakistan.

Middle Eastern would probably be the best category. White usually denotes being of ethnic European heritage rather than necessarily being white skinned and having 'European' features as some Arabs, Turks, Iranians, Central Asians ans South Asians can easily pass as being white.
Iran is technically in Asia but Middle Eastern is probably more precise as Asian can mean different things in different parts of the world.
