If you love Rob, you really need to listen to "End of the Road" if you haven't heard it yet. Rob goes to church on that one. It one of Home Free's very best and also features Austin.

The big deal with "Helplessly Hoping" is that two-voice unison near the beginning. I don't personally have much use for unisons: not only are they boring, but they're also difficult as !@#$ to pull off, especially with two voices. But I don't think I've ever heard a unison like that one.

You had to check out some of their solo projects too - if you want to really hear Austin's voice at his best check Bring him Home, it's amazing. And Tim released a solo acapella project layering his voice taking full advantage of his insanely wide range - Will you love me tomorrow/Stay or Come go with me - it's unbelievable it's all "just" his voice alone...

As always the guys did a fabulous version of this song. I wouldn't expect anything different from them. They are amazing! The ending sounded like a nod to "Kiss From A Rose" by Seal. Also like the cute video that goes along with it. A lot of people have covered this song. It was first done by "Lonestar" in 1999. Bonnie Tyler did a cover in 2003 & Boyz II Men in 2009.

  • @lindanearing4710

Home Frees' musical instincts are spot on and as there are no egos, they choose who sings what according to what will serve the music the best. Every time they release a new video, I think they can't possibly top it and they are like, "Hold my beer." and go ahead and do just that. Just the most recent videos they've come out with, Unchained Melody, Ain't Goin' Down "Til The Sun Comes Up, and The Driver are spectacular. Then you add in the individual work that Tim, Austin and Chance have been up to, you don't have to wander away from Home Free to get the variety of genre, assortment of styles, and range of emotionality. Home Free is like a banquet. If I sound like a smitten Home Fry, it's because that is exactly what I am. Adam Rupp's recent videos of his beat boxing solos from the live shows where he uses a looper to create "beat boxing symphonies" as I call them are also awe inspiring. Thanks for the wonderful reaction.

Adam Chance is actually a bass. He was actually on the Sing Off, I believe the same year as Pentatonix, with a group called Street Corner Symphony. Home Free added him as their baritone when Chris Rupp left because they had a previous relationship with him (he even appeared as an extra in one of their videos) and he allowed Tim to sing more Tenor and Baritone. Chance actually has a four octave range himself. Home fries actually call him a bassitone.
I'm not sure you noticed but that outro was using the melody from "Kiss From A Rose".
As far as, how they decide who sings what songs. Tim has said in many interviews that often they will each sing lead on a demo of the song and they and their producer Darren Rust choose the best one or ones to sing lead.

Chance previously sang bass for Street Corner Symphony. They also competed on the Sing-Off though I don't remember which season. He gives Home Free a lot of options for trading off with Tim on the lead and bass lines, and they all blow your mind in their cover of Mayday.
So glad you're doing VoicePlay next! They were good on Sing-Off, and have grown by leaps and bounds since then. They don't have a manager or record deal so they do everything themselves, complete creative control -- which they didn't have on the Sing-Off. Hoist the Colors and Dream On are epic (their new "baritone" Cesar is the one hitting the high Tyler scream); Butter is fun and needs multiple views to catch all the antics in the background; and Can't Help Falling in Love is a deceptively simple and gorgeous Elvis cover -- all arranged by Geoff, the bass. To see a more playful side, try Little Mermaid Medley, We Don't Talk About Bruno, and Oogie Boogie's Song -- all arranged by Layne, the beatboxer. To show off their dance moves in Boy Bands in Five Minutes, they hired Kristin, the same choreographer who worked on the Sing-Off.
Geoff Castellucci started a solo channel doing low bass covers during the pandemic. Monster Mash was my first experience, and I was a fan by 90 seconds in. He filmed that at Pattycake Studio; his wife Kathy has a cameo. He filmed Headless Horseman in his parents' dining room, and Big Bad John in Pattycake's storage room because every venue in town was booked on 2/22/22. 🤣Sixteen Tons and Misty Mountains Cold are by far his most viewed videos. With a five-octave range, he usually harmonizes with three or four clones, from basso profundo up to tenor.

The sound for this is prerecorded but this video would have been shot at a concert. That bar is their set from the current tours.
For me, the biggest thing with Home Free is that they are focused on creating a song and not as focused on the singer. That means they have a lead (that changes) and the rest of the group holds down the song subtly but amazingly. Rupp, for instance, can do crazy sounds but keeps his vocal percussion as true to an actual drum in order that one can quickly forget that it is a human voice. Add in the bass and they have an amazing foundation from which to hang some amazing musicianship.

If you haven't listened to "When a Man Loves a Woman", you don't know what you're missing!! Austin has soul! The song officially belongs to him now. ❤👍 Definitely listen to this one next.
To hear Rob go totally off the rails, react to "End of the Road"! It'll leave you speechless.
Another song full of great harmonies and featuring Rob and Austin would be "Bless the Broken Road". Beautiful rendition, for sure!
For overall arrangement, 5-part harmonies, and stunning vocals all the way around, please react to "How Great Thou Art"! You even get the bonus of hearing Adam Rupp sing briefly. 😉😍
Same with "Helplessly Hoping". OMG The 5-part harmonies are out of this world. If you can pick out a higher tenor midway through the song, that's Adam (it shows him on the screen, but most people don't pick up on the fact that it's him singing)! Tim's breath control blows me away, too. Listen for a sustained bass near the end.
To get a better feel for Chance's buttery, velvety, smooth voice, listen to a couple sides of him.
"Some Girls Do" is a faster, fun, country song.
"I Can't Outrun You" is gorgeous and sad.
"Cover Me Up" is a love song for his fiance. Watch for a special surprise right after the music stops!
"Dive Bar Saints" is a Home Free original with Chance taking lead.
"The Driver" is their latest release and he has a great verse in it!
"Sea Shanty Medley" features Chance quite a bit. It was his idea to do the video. It's a fun medley!
If you go to his own channel (TheAdamChance), definitely listen to "If I Could Only Fly"! He's playing his guitar in that one and it's SO beautiful.
To hear the 2 sides of Tim (he's currently got a 5+ octave range, working hard to reach 6 😳), I recommend listening to "Brothers in Arms" first. Hauntingly beautiful 5-part harmonies. No beatboxing. Tim & Chance sharing lead. A Dire Straits/Club 4 Five cover. Sung from the perspective of a soldier dying on the battlefield; speaking about the bond between brothers in arms, while lamenting the futility of war. The "wall of sound" near the middle will make your heart skip a beat.
THEN, go to Tim Foust's channel and find "Will You Still Love Me/Stay" and/or "In My Room"! He has a 12-track album called "Pieces of Me, Vol. 1" (all Tim, all a capella!) where he's done a bunch of doo-wop songs from the 50s & 60s. He does ALL of the parts himself (bass/baritone/tenor/falsetto, lead/backup/harmonies, claps/sound effects), including the animal sounds on "The Lion Sleeps Tonight"! Lol It's absolutely amazing and fun. 👍❤
To hear another side of Austin (and hear a bit of his musical theater background), go to his channel and give a listen to "Bring Him Home" from Les Mis. Bring tissues. 😍
I could go on all day with this. They have an extensive 150+ catalog (covers AND originals) and not a bad one in the bunch! A ton of great Christmas covers AND originals, as well. Have fun diving into the HF rabbit hole! It's addicting! Lol

Another great song is a cover of Dire Strait’s “Brothers in Arms”. No percussion, just five part harmonies. The cover is an arrangement by a Finnish group, Club for Five. Tim asked them for permission to use it before they did it. It’s kind of appropriate for this time of year. Home Free doesn’t have any particular lead singer; they just get together and decide who’s voice would sound best for each song.

Hello, new subscriber here. I really am enjoying your approach to reaction videos in that you share both your technical knowledge of vocals along with allowing us to experience your emotional reaction to the performances. Some reactors are pure "technical" while others are pure "emotional" but I love your balance. Having said all that, I am a Home Free fan and their range of performances spans from pure silliness to very powerful, emotional songs and I love this about them.
I second all the other suggestions that you react to Home Free's cover of "Helplessly Hoping" as an amazing example of pure vocal brilliance without the silliness and I believe it is a great performance for a skilled voice teacher like you to react to for all the great harmonies and subtle vocal skills. There are many others, but this one is special I believe.
Then there is their powerful rendition of "Brothers in Arms" which is an amazing performance that conveys a very serious message. I mention this as fair warning to you that your beautiful, upbeat personality and detailed technical reaction might need to be put on hold (or at least tempered) for reacting to this song. The song has a very strong emotional connection for me and some of my favorite reviewers came in trying to ignore the message and only comment on the vocal technique. It came across as though they were not listening to the words and message.
I very much look forward to following your new content.

Not sure how long it has been since you have checked out Home Free but, Tim, Austin and Chance also have their own solo You Tube channels.
Tim and Austin have a couple of collaborations out. Most recently, covers of Brooks and Dunn's "My Maria" and Clay Walker's "What's it to you".
Adam Chance is a baritone but he covers bass for Tim when Tim is singing lead. He has been adding covers to his channel for about a year and he has a few collaborations with The Hound and the Fox. He just released a cover of "Wayfaring Stranger" with The Hound and the Fox and The Hound and the Fox released a cover of "The Sound of Silence".
Adam Rupp does sing occasionally but, he doesn't sing lead. He is a tenor but, he has a pretty large range.

This was the prefect video for this song. Adam Chance can do a low bass also. He was the bass in the last group he sang with.

Adam Chance sang bass in his previos groups I thing the Street side Singerd. He works as a seconf bass but I love his voice and has some great individual performance.

My Maria is a really cool departure from the norm (such as a guitar, bass, and keyboard!) done in a back yard I think during COVID shutdown, as was their Sea Shanty Medley, made TikTok style. I really like that one!

I wish you would consider reacting to 'Winter Song'. It's a gorgeous song also. Maybe when it gets hot in the near future it could cool everyone down a bit.

It’s easy to understand you liking them, definitely looking for more!
As I said in part 1 I feel exactly the same about VoicePlay, you describe them just the way as I do with VoicePlay.
Have fun with your follow up, and Wooooohoooo you’re doing VoicePlay - see I watched until the end 😂😂😂
