I'm at 36 months, starting to notice that my battery life isn't what it used to be. Saved this video, I've ordered the ifixit kit and studied their procedure. I just really don't want to change phones.
@josephdurnal So, how did it go? You've never posted back to let us know how it went. Does that mean that you broke the phone and it doesn't turn on and you can't post???? 😶
I think the most difficult thing to know is how genuine is genuine vs the difference in price for these "genuine" parts from the parts provider companies. Thanks for the videos.
@@summetj There are a few phone parts supplier companies that claim to sell oem or genuine parts, and some even tell you if they are aftermarket, but not all. For the Google Pixel 4a 5G battery I'll need, there is a wide price range from these companies, so if the claims are true, it's difficult to know which company is overcharging. Appreciate your response though.
@@summetj I would NOT trust them as far as I could throw them. They ruined one of my Google Nexus 6 Shamus and refused to take responsibility for even though I notified them within minutes, scant minutes, after walking out the front door and going to turn my phone on as I got into my vehicle in front of their store that the phone was inoperable. They told me to take it home and try charging it again and that was the end of that. I had to sell my poor little big Shamu for parts. All because I trusted that bunch to replace my battery 😡
Thanks for the video. You've shared everything I need to know...and have made my decision NOT to try this! I agree with you, Google makes it exceedingly difficult to replace the battery.
@CarlosSpicyWeener If you take your time and use good quality magnetic T3 and (sometimes) T4 screwdrivers as well as appropriate heat to break the screen seal, it truly is not difficult at all. Just a giant pain in the buns BUT you can purchase a battery for about $20 and do it yourself saving yourself the $100 to treat yourself for something nice. With most phones I can swap out a battery within about 5 or 6 minutes. With the Pixel 4a, it takes quite a while longer because of the placement of the two primary VERY FRAGILE cables and the ludicrous placement of the SIM card slot. Very few videos warn people to pop the SIM card drawer and if you don't your SIM card drawer will get mangled. With MOST Android devices the biggest issue is encountering a swollen battery that explodes when you pop the back off. I have watched a whole bunch of videos and none of them ever worn people to wear glasses or gloves. After one encounters an exploding battery they will never forget. 😑
This is why I miss the old style of cell phones. If the battery was bad you just popped it out. You didn't have to disassemble the entire thing. Looks like a hassle and I'd probably break it way worse than a battery.
@scottieman2 Not all phones are that darn difficult to deal with. You are RIGHT and that you can easily break something if you don't know what you're looking at. I have changed at least 75, maybe 100, batteries and still managed to break the fingerprint sensor cable on mine this evening. Personally, I hate fingerprint sensors so I don't really care BUT when I go to resell the device the buyer may or may not. I don't know why they make it so GD difficult to change a battery! It's not exactly like they're starving to death on the prophet from the initial sale of the device.
@@66lwmorgan yes, the 5g version is a different phone but branded under the same ""4A" to confuse people, but they probably have a version of the kit for that model as well.
This particular phone heats up fast if you are taking photos continuously, but that happened with the old battery as well, (it's the CPU heating things up as it post processes the photos, not the battery). I've been very happy with the life of the new battery.
hello Jay, I used this Ifixit kit to replace my battery on the Google Pixel 4A, but unfortunately the phone is not starting anymore, do you know if it is due to bad battery, bad connection of elements or if it is the screen which is dead. I tested it on my laptop, it is not reknown. The only thing whih is working is the fact that it is still vibrating when I charge it. (the phone was still working before the replacement of the old battery). thanks in advance if you see this message.
If the phone vibrates when you plug it in it's probably charging the battery correctly. I would check all of the connections especially the ones to the screen again.
@@summetj Hello Jay, thank you for your fast reply, good news this morning "the alarm ring", but still no visibility on the screen. I think it might be due to the screen (I used the warming pad from IfixIt to take it off, it might have been damaged when I warmed it up or when I used the plastic element to take off the glue). Do you know where I could buy a good screen for the pixel 4a ? (official version and with low price if you have any idea). thanks again for your answer :). Have a good day
@@bapisteful if I-fix it does not have one you're probably just going to have to look on eBay or Amazon, it is old enough you may not be able to find an OEM one. Unless you know you physically broke the screen, be sure to double check the connections on the ribbon cable as it is more likely it is just disconnected.
