      Yeah the thing that bothers me about how they handled the layoffs is that unless the company is on the very brink of bankruptcy, it NEVER has to be that brutal. Doing it that brutally is a choice and i think drastically less of any CEO that does it. Not that i think very highly of many CEOs anyway, but still.

      That is what i havent been able to understand. Tesla has been - or maybe was but who cares - the most valuable auto maker in the world and they havent taken full advantage of that. The lifecycle of their models is way too long and some features, like HUD, are nowhere to be found. They should have raised capital while they could and updated Y, S, X by now - besides a lousy refresh. I would also expect improvements in build quality by now; unfortunately, not the case.

    As a person who's worked in the Tech Industry in the Bay Area since 98, this is not how mass layoffs are handled. It's normally done on a Friday and you are given notice while you are at work, or before you come to work with a phone call. But maybe this is how a person with Asperger's handles layoffs. On the bright side, these engineers will most likely be snatched up by other car companies getting into the EV market. It would be like a company wanting to make Enterprise Level Applications using Angular finding out a Google Engineer just came onto the market. They will most likely have another job within a month...

      It's about as low as it's gonna get after the recent 5k slash on existing models. They may be wiping existing inventory, but the Juniper refresh won't be enough to ward off the looming spectre of Rivian's R2 stealing the hearts of prospective Model Y buyers in the next 2 years. Which means that this is about as much sale as you're gonna get for the '24 model brand new.

    Here's a bit of truth as I'm really tired of TH-camrs expounding the virtues of FSD. I currently have two Teslas w/FSD trial (truck on order too) and have had two other long-term "loners" (X & M3) with it as well. I have NEVER had FSD take me anywhere that didn't require immediate intervention to either prevent it from wrecking us, getting confused and wandering around through several lanes, not seeing speed bumps and taking incorrect routings such as through a hospital emergency lane area. Without the smallest amount of exaggeration, on a single trip ... within 60 seconds we were almost killed three times. It pulled DIRECTLY in front of a car at a stop sign without braking/turning and if I hadn't had the acceleration boost and "floored it", we'd be dead by "T-boning." Phantom braking is a real and persistent problem. "Summon" is completely useless as I have NEVER seen it work even once. Going through intersections is butt-tightening as the car wanders around since there are no lane markers, frequently into other lanes and will hit cars without driver intervention, so a tight grip on the wheel is not optional. And attempting to make a turn under the same circumstances will have the car driving all over the place, starting to turn into on-coming lanes that are sitting at a red light and braking in the MIDDLE of the intersection with cars behind you having to hit their brakes. I have discussed this in length with Tesla service and they have NEVER been able to fix it. In total and unadulterated honesty, even if FSD was completely free, I'd never use it. While I'm truly a "dyed-in-the-wool" Tesla/Musk fan, I have to admit there are failures within the company (fit/finish/paint, charging for the built-in garage opener, no included charger, no decent surround view for parking, etc.) but the most egregious, is FSD. Owning what is probably (IMHO) the best car ever made, to have such a dangerous/useless item is shocking. The FSD is an utter failure and focusing time/effort/money on such a lost cause does nothing to counter all the money I've lost with Tesla stock or make the car palatable to a prospective buyer that's afraid as a result of all the press about how bad full self driving is. At this point, the best thing Tesla and Musk can do is stop any further wasted research of FSD, and focus on their core products without this utterly failed distraction. I wouldn't stake the lives of my family on FSD ...

    • @chiplangowski3298
      @chiplangowski3298 13 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Let's all just be honest. Full self-driving is a solution looking for a problem to solve. That said, you are right. My MY came with a trial that I used a couple times and then disabled because it was buggy and dangerous. I then got the latest 30-day trial with my last software update. It is a tiny bit better, but still too dangerous to trust on busy streets.

      FSD will get better but it will take a few years, perhaps a decade. But, as a software engineer, I can assure u, it will get there. However, not anytime soon. And, there is the elephant in the room, robotaxi... Dont get me started on that pipe dream. Elmo is delusional to think that is even remotely possible in the next 2-3 years. He will be lucky if they get something that works 80% of the time in 5 years. But, even then, do you think they will be allowed to let those cars roam like that alone in the cities? Nah... there will be regulations, compliance, and other things. Not to mention litigation due to damage. And damage, it will be. LOL.

    Generally layoffs like this are a gift to shareholders. A means to in the short term adjust fixed costs in a company to make them look better on paper and that works for shareholders as they typically are only in a stock for the short term gains. Long term they really just need to get moving on that Y refresh, so many are probably just waiting for it given the sudden increase in inventory. The S and X also need to get revamped to give them a proper edge on the 3 and Y. It kinda seems like there may be some disappointment coming for the 25k EV similar to the 40k cybertruck original starting price, I think we'll see that price go up in some fashion or some other caveats around it.

    Doing anything but a sudden large wave of layoffs is stupid and counter productive if you’re going to ly of “x” number of people anyway. If you warn people prior people won’t work as hard, spends weeks or months in anxiety and also be looking for new jobs (including those not being played off). There’s lots of other practical and emotional reasons to do it this way but I don’t care enough to describe. The channel “how money works” recently made a video that goes into depth about this very topic. Any company which employees a large group of workers would be foolish to do it any differently. Lay offs do hurt the employee, which is sad, but in the same way the norm of today is that a job is a job, the employer sees its workers that way, and employee is an employee. Both see each other as means to an end, one pays for my life, one works to produce my services. They are not family or friends, it’s strictly business. All one can do is save accordingly and do their best to stand out so they have a higher chance of making the cut than others. It’s simple, job security has never existed ever and it’s foolish to assume it ever will. Look out for yourself, plan for the worst and hope for the best.

Yes, I've driven a number of EV's whilst deciding what to buy, and there was no comparison to the Tesla Model 3 Highland. Unbelievable in every way. Elon is simply restructuring the company due to new threats in the market (Chinese for a start), and he has to take action to keep Tesla at the forefront of research, development and technological advancements. The company is not 'in trouble' as some mainstream media flogs are reporting, they are restructuring for the massive explosion of EV's that is coming in the next few years. Go Elon.

    The American public has become immune to the firing of workers and it's sad. It's shocking how many people in TH-cam comments attack labor. "They're too lazy." "They're uneducated." The privileged step on the necks of the working class. There once was a time when labor was respected. Workers sacrificed their time, lives, and often their families to ensure the success of companies. Respect and stability for hard work flew out the window with the dodo bird. Times have changed and it will only get worse. Elon Musk became the richest man in the world off the backs of labor. We are gaslit into believing that workers are flexible, that they can learn new skills, pick up, and move on. Many of these people can't. People are not malleable. Most people are lucky to master one skill in their life. If workers, all workers, even those in Tesla Shanghai, had ownership in Tesla, Elon Musk wouldn't be the richest man in the world but every single worker who shed blood, sweat, and tears would have a roof over the head, food to eat, and live without fear from what the next day will bring. Elon destroyed the lives of the people who built Twitter. Now Elon is destroying the lives of the people who built Tesla. Destruction is being wrought by billionaire oligarchs and no one has the will to do anything about it. The American Dream is over.
