In Canadian French the older folk still pronounced terre like middle French -- just like they do in Italian and Spanish.

If you want to know why aqua in french is eau.
French usually fronted "a" to "æ" in stressed syllabes so in french you get "equa".
French had a tendency to cause secondary lenition on p, t and k, so in french, you get "ewa".
French used to keep "a" in final position which develop the "a" into a schwa sound, so in french, you get "ewe".
Now here's the deal, french used to do fortition on "w" sounds to "v" but in "ewe" it didn't came. So due to that exception, the "æ" or "è" sounds had the tendency to be diphthongized into "ea" when the next consonant is a "w" sound or a velarized "l" sound so the word became "eawe". Finally, the final schwa sound was dropped leading to "eau".

not really, french has the same structure as italian, and even italian and other italian languages have germanic influences even in the pronunciation and words. Franks early adopted latin because they want to be like romans and in italy tribes like longobardic and Goths influenced the lexicon of vulgar and then italian.

I don’t understand why people always say that french is « germanized » ; as a french native speaker I don’t see any link between french and german languages ; french is 100% a romance language and I can see it every day just being able to understand written spanish or italian without having studied them; italian is super easy to understand if spoken slowly enough (almost 90% of words have a direct cognate) and super super close to french. Isn’t this so-called german aspect of french just an urban legend ?

French is indeed grammatically and lexically closer to Italian than Spanish is. However, one needs to speak or have studied all three languages to realize that. If we stop at first impressions, in which sounds and pronunciation play an enormous part, it’s normal to feel like Spanish is closer than French is.

French is closer to Italian than Spanish in grammar and vocabulary
However, personally...I see it as a triangle 🔺️
For example, although French and Italian share many grammar features...they do not share the plural I.e -s at end of words which is a feature shared between Spanish and French

it may not look as similar in this video as the way the two texts are written do not translate exactly the same, you can do the same in English by writing a sentence using different words along with changing what the main focus is on that then make a different word order
