In Canadian French the older folk still pronounced terre like middle French -- just like they do in Italian and Spanish.
If you want to know why aqua in french is eau.
French usually fronted "a" to "æ" in stressed syllabes so in french you get "equa".
French had a tendency to cause secondary lenition on p, t and k, so in french, you get "ewa".
French used to keep "a" in final position which develop the "a" into a schwa sound, so in french, you get "ewe".
Now here's the deal, french used to do fortition on "w" sounds to "v" but in "ewe" it didn't came. So due to that exception, the "æ" or "è" sounds had the tendency to be diphthongized into "ea" when the next consonant is a "w" sound or a velarized "l" sound so the word became "eawe". Finally, the final schwa sound was dropped leading to "eau".
Old French was better
A suggestion: Sardinian and Icelandic. Both are deemed the most conservative of their respective branches.
French's pronunciation is so unique.
Comes from german
The french are the most "germanized" of all romance peoples
@@GAIUSIULIUSCAESARAV1 The Salian Franks settled in Gaul spoke more an ancient variant of Old Dutch, before being romanized, and adopting Gallo-Romance languages.
@@GAIUSIULIUSCAESARAV1No Come from Celts ( Gaulish)
I agree, I have always liked the French pronunciation.
🇬🇷 💙 🇫🇷
Raviolis and Baguettes
RACIST!!!
You can make Albanian and Arberesh (Arberesh of Italy)
You can make a video about Old Russian, Old Serbian and Old Westren Ruthenian (the ancestor of Ukrainian and Belarusian) ?
Russian and rusyn too
Very cool video.
French pronunciation is sexy but it must be extremely difficult.
- Italiano: Forza Nerazzurri!
- François: Allez les Noirebleues😅
If it has two syllables in Italian, it's one in French. I wonder if French kept the syllables Will it be more understandable to other Latin languages?
Make similarity between iranian branch like kurdyy baloochi pashtoon .persian...
avestan(old iranian) and old Polish and latin and latvian and vedic sanskrit, and old celtic
beautiful melodies of languages. Compare with middle old Polish
Ohh two beautiful languages here! I find French such a fascinating language, but the way they pronounce the words must be hard, not an easy one, especially for us the Greeks. But very nice languages both, especially French.
nine=neuf, new=neuf 😮
FIRST!!
they sounds like a Germanic Romance language & a Latinic Romance language
Lmao what
@@AllanLimosin i mean Italian is the most closest Romance language to Latin and French is the most closest Romance to Germanic languages such as high German
not really, french has the same structure as italian, and even italian and other italian languages have germanic influences even in the pronunciation and words. Franks early adopted latin because they want to be like romans and in italy tribes like longobardic and Goths influenced the lexicon of vulgar and then italian.
@@RowLetTom THIS....its just that other romance languages aren't as influenced by Germanic in phonology as French is....but however in the end...they still are
@@RowLetTom i know that, but French and high German have many similarities in phonemes that why i said French is mix Germanic Romance language, (its a joke) even though French is totally a Romance language, sounds different from other Romance languages.
(same case with English that many people say modern English is a Romance Germanic language)
There is no Comparaison, French is simply (*for me*) the most beautiful romance Language and one of the most beautiful Languages in the World. Italian is 4 and French is 10!
French has the weirdest sound in romance languages.. Very disgusting to hear..
For me spanish &italian sounds very good to my ear.. And this 2 language phonetically closes to the LATIN.
@@4everlegend300 It is preference, you like Italian and I French.
My Australian wife fi finds Italian more beautiful then french maybe because I'm italian😂😂😂😂
@@johngarofano7356 Her Preference, you like Italian? Ok...
@@simonecappiello3937 My favourite language is french then italian ,Its my wife who says that not me,but having said that I wouldn't give Italian 4,or french 10,I personally would rate it both 8 ,have a nice day
Neuf = 10, Neuf = New. Me - wtf
Neuf = 9
neuf is more “brand new”. New = Nouveau
In my language, 9 is nòu
Italian sounds more masculine
This depends on the speaker, not the language that is spoken.
italiano é muito mais fácil que francês.... as vezes o francês parece italiano muito germanizado
germanizado? Ah sim? Portugues e frances se sembran muinto tamben.
@@skyalmillegra2532 francês escrito é mais compreensível que falado! você sabe disso.
I don’t understand why people always say that french is « germanized » ; as a french native speaker I don’t see any link between french and german languages ; french is 100% a romance language and I can see it every day just being able to understand written spanish or italian without having studied them; italian is super easy to understand if spoken slowly enough (almost 90% of words have a direct cognate) and super super close to french. Isn’t this so-called german aspect of french just an urban legend ?
Idk how anyone can say French is closer to Italian than Spanish is. There's no fggin way
French is indeed grammatically and lexically closer to Italian than Spanish is. However, one needs to speak or have studied all three languages to realize that. If we stop at first impressions, in which sounds and pronunciation play an enormous part, it’s normal to feel like Spanish is closer than French is.
French is closer to Italian than Spanish in grammar and vocabulary
However, personally...I see it as a triangle 🔺️
For example, although French and Italian share many grammar features...they do not share the plural I.e -s at end of words which is a feature shared between Spanish and French
SP hijos
FR fils
IT figli
@@Nwk843 yes, French like Spanish is a Western Romance language, while Italian isn’t. That’s what Linguists say…
it may not look as similar in this video as the way the two texts are written do not translate exactly the same, you can do the same in English by writing a sentence using different words along with changing what the main focus is on that then make a different word order
It is ,
