The Eden experience is a blast, a great experience. One thing that really impressed me is their innovative cross infection controls. For those who have a love of theatre and or appreciate technology I would highly recommend a tour back stage of the theatre. Great review.
@@tipsfortravellers thanks for this report. we depart on the edge in a few weeks, looking forward to my first cruise, with my new bride! the behind the scenes tour is one that we reserved :-)
I thought the magic carpet was going to be a gimmick but it was actually pretty great. My biggest complaint is that you can’t watch the front of the ship from the top deck unless you’re in retreat class, which to me, is a big deal - and will keep me off Apex class
There are some major changes here. Especially the overall decor. Pretty smart for Celebrity to do this. This will keep the interest of seasoned cruisers. You know the type, seen it all, done it all. Now there's something new.
Edge is catering to younger cruisers too. The hip, contemporary design (plus the Eden area) are driving away the old farts and that could be a good thing.

Thanks Mr. Gary. I am sailing on the Edge in January. We went on the Equinox last year and we were fortunate enough to experience a Celebrity suite. We are very excited to go on board to experience the Edge although the Celebrity Suite for 7 days was a hefty price. We opted for a sky suite.

Celebrity is my favorite cruise line, and I sailed on the Edge two years ago. After several sailings on the Solstice class ships I was disappointed. I do love the "look and feel" of the ship, but the general layout is very confusing and disorienting compared to the Solstice class. Shops and restaurants seemed randomly scattered about the ship, and some of the hallways had dead ends. The biggest disappointment though was the in cabin sofas. I had a mini suite, and the sofas are no longer long enough to lay down on, to nap or read. The only place you can lay down in your cabin is in your bed. I did love Eden!

Great video Gary. Just off the Edge in April. Agree with the “edgy” feel. Didn’t care for the IV (Infinite Véranda) but loved using the app on my iPhone for lowering the shades and turning off the lights in the room. Having four restaurants instead of one or two MDRs was great. And as you said, it felt like a semi specialty dining experience. Next up for us is the Celebrity Silhouette and next year the Infinity. Suites for us and love Luminae!
Great to hear your thoughts! I really want to do the suites and trying to convince my partner to cone on Celebrity to make it viable! I’ve gone solo so far on Celebrity and gets too steep to go solo in suite 😀
Great video indicating pros and cons about the new class. When I have looked at prices in the Edge they are much higher than the other ships. Might have to pass on this class for a while.
I thoroughly enjoyed my Apex cruise. I was in a suite and loved everything that came with that. The four dining rooms were nice. People can choose a table, if they wish, and have the same group and waiter throughout their cruise. We enjoyed so many. Luminae, Blu, and all 4 MDR's. Our Eden dinner was the finest dining experience I've ever enjoyed aboard a ship. Even the walking track is unique, in that it goes between two levels and meanders a bit. One thing to mention. The suites all have standard verandas, not the infinite variety. We enjoyed ours, but our daughter, travelling solo, enjoyed her Infinite Veranda.
Great informative video.... After watching another bloggers cruise on the Edge,it was nice to get a differ perspective. The retreat deck looks amazing. So does the magic carpet but I wouldn’t want it going up and down past my cabin!
All very valid points , balanced - as always ! We LOVED The Edge, sophisticated and stylish. Ideal ship for the Caribbean, hope to book again for 2020, maybe we will try another Edge-Class ship.....
I went on the Edge through the Mediterranean and it was great! I tried all the restaurants to include the specialty ones and the food was amazing! Eden had the best dessert😋.
Oh man! I’d love to try this one someday... looks really cool and awesome! very edgy and modern and it looks like posh and classier and the crowd is more civilized.
Was reading articles on Cruisecritics about Celebrity cruise ships having the best decor and best food and dining on a ship! They’re on top of the list! Saw videos of restaurants and it’s decor plus the food, wow! it’s amazing!

Just booked our first Edge class ship for next year, a rebook of our FCC…was the Edge now on the Beyond as we liked the itinerary. Just so excited to have a cruise to look forward to! @Gary would love a tour and your take of the Beyond when it comes comes around if in your plans?
You neglected two HUGE things that us old-line Celebrity cruisers (20+ cruises) HATE! No small lounges and no forward facing space open to all. Both of those mean I will never sail on an Edge glass ship. That and the incorrectly named Infinite Verandah. It’s an outside cabin with a window that opens.
I so much agree with you, especially about the lack of lounges. This feels like an NCL freestyle ship that was Celebritized (but NCL ships have lounges). No observation lounge, no aft lounge, no Michael's Club, no lounges really (that disco area doesn't feel like a lounge and more like a "club"). I just don't want to eat constantly on a ship. I want to socialize. And I like several places where people dance to different types of music. Even that Eden area doesn't look like a lounge and they have a restaurant in it. I find little appealing about this ship.
Thanks Gary! I have only been on the Equinox and it has been my favorite so far of many lines l have been including Princess and RCL. This ship looks amazing ..cant wait to try her out.
Thanks (again). We sail on her in the Med this year, and feel like this gives us somewhat of a leg up. First time on Celebrity, so we won’t. Price the “departures” that you spoke of
Went on a 21 night cruise on the Edge and loved most of it......great service, great food ( free stuff anyway ), but even though we are 60yr olds, we felt it was geared more for older people. The entertainment was more 60's rather than 80's or 90's. As we were in port nearly every day it didn't matter too much. Eden we feel is a bit of a flop.....rarely many people there, entertainment is weird and chairs are very comfortable but not practicable, very hard to get back out of.
Thank you for your review Gary. Celebrity is my favorite line for dining 😃 however Disney was close and I really enjoyed going to the different restaurants with the same staff and guests. It's always fun to make new friends however that may be more difficult with the edge class dining arrangement.
@@femmefuntime yes but if its a bit windy you can still go out on a conventional balcony and close the door to your cabin. Although if it was windy you probably wouldn't go out anyway!
I’ve just booked the Edge in July round the Med - thanks for the video Gary - as ever clear & precise I look forward to sailing on her and comparing notes with you ! I’m not sure about the balcony concept but I’ll soon see :))) Only thing I miss tbh is the formal nights - it was so nice (in my opinion) dressing up in black tie & the ladies in ball gowns - shame it’s gone :(((
RadRich yes celebrity were very good and quick to offer a full refund ..... am totally gutted as cruising I think is one of the best ways to travel ......
Love the Solstice class ships, and have sailed on all of them. This video has confirmed my feeling that Edge has no appeal to me at all, especially at the current ridiculous prices.
First cruise ever was on Celebrity Infinity (Millennium class ship in 2010). Older ship but very nice, very fitting to the style of cruising I would want to do in the future. I don't know if I could get onboard (pun intended) on the Celebrity Edge class ships. Some features are nice and some would grate on me. The infinite balconies seem nice as a concept but don't really appeal to me. Mixed thoughts on the dining experience as my wife does not like the typical main dining experience with tons on people and a dozen people sitting at your table every night. Great review and summary though. Very honest and unbiased!
u2good2b4gotn the room was great. Everything was modern and digital. The room had different settings for the lights. I liked that it wasn’t one grand room for dinner. Although that say to make reservations, you dont have to. The food was great. I recommend Tuscan and Cyprus for the free dining. The martini bar was fun because of the bar tenders. The getting off and on the boat was easier than my previous cruises. Everything was well put together. The rooftop garden was nice to sit on especially when the sunsets.
Hey Gary, great video!!! We are going to Alaska next year but can’t decide on a two bedrooms or something bigger. We have 3 people. What do you suggest ? Thanks!!!
I didn't hear any mention of the Ensemble Lounge on the Solstice class disappearing. I'm not that interested in the restaurants. This is similar to an NCL freestyle ship now but NCL at least still includes some lounges. If you're a couple that likes to dance in various lounges on ships, or just likes the lounge life aboard ships, this isn't the class of ship for you.
Magic Carpet: nice name for the eyesore. At first, I thought it would be an ugly contraption. However, it seems that it has been incorporated well into the function of the ship.
We just got off this ship and it's one of the most stunning we've been on, however Celebrity has totally abandoned the concept. They seem unable to attract a younger cruiser and instead are finding more 65 years and older onboard so they've scrapped the concept and running it like a Holland America cruise with Elvis music, Buddy Holly Tribute bands, and even music on board from the 40's and 50's. It's a massive miss for one of cruising's more respected brands and the result is like watching your grandpa trying to be cool and failing miserably.
We just cruised with her last week. Fantastic ship, looks amazing, feels very modern. We're used to Royal Carribean, so it was really different. Few things we noticed. This is very much a sit down, eat, drink and listen to music ship. Which can be a good thing, but it was lacking a bit of activities for us. The shops are just stupid. We only visited them once, and did not buy anything. Let's be honest, how many people can afford to spend $10k+ on a watch in todays economy on top of an already expensive cruise? So changing the shops to market to the top 1% just feels a bit weird. We did not spend any money on board, normally we always do. A new tie, a bracelet, an affordable watch,... It just wasn't available. Magic carpet is only good for tenders. It was on the pool deck every day, with a seperate bar. Felt a bit 'meh' about it. The spa is fantastic. Spend a couple of hours there everyday. Great choice of saunas, steam room and the heated beds that look out to the front of the ship might just be my favorite of the whole ship. Dinning is great, but as you said in the video, not having a fixed table, with different staff everyday is different. Normally we'd have a lot of fun at dinner with a fun waiter, they know if they make your evenings great, they'll most likely get a tip at the end of the cruise. Now it felt a bit more distant. Doing their job but nothing more. Might be good for some, I didn't like it. And lastly, avoid the sunset verandas on deck 12. We were right under the outside seating area of the ocean view cafe. It is sooooo noisy. The sound of moving chairs will keep you up at night when they are cleaning, and will wake you up in the moring. We changed rooms to deck 8 after the first night and it was sooo much better. We were in a suite, but didn't really used the retreat since we were travelling with people without access. It looked nice, but was certainly busy. The solarium was a much more relaxing environement.
I'm trying to decide on a Celebrity cruise vs another on RCL. The comments about the decline of service and dining is very concerning. I had a great time on RCL because of the staff and the food was pretty good as well.
noein road We really like Celebrity, we did 2 cruises back to back in 2018 on the Milenium and the service was outstanding. Going to Asia on her Feb 1 st 2020. I think folk’s experiences vary on everything, as it also depends on the clients’ attitude.
All of the (mass market) cruise lines have lapses in service and food. You just book one and hope for the best. When Celebrity is on, service and food are of a very high standard.
Traveled on the celebrity edge summer 2019 with family. I'd say they have an even mix of younger - middle-aged cruisers pertaining to the wealthier side with lots of those whom I had met or my parents had met being early retirees just travelling the world. Rooms were smaller than thought to be however they made good use of space and didn't feel claustrophobic at all. Enjoyed lounging out on the infinite veranda and am an actual fan of the design. I would say that although with quite a large a large selection at their MDR, it was quite lackluster in taste and didn't appeal much at all. My family and I ended up going to the specialty restaurants almost every night (The seafood/sushi restaurants sashimi and tower combos were amazing) or going to Blu which I actually found quite tasteful as well. Main highlights of the ship would be the spa areas with the vast amount of treatments along with varying sauna type rooms in the back, the nightlife on board was usually quite alive with many joining in on silent disco or going to the nightclub. They also hold quite a few different events with the luxury brands on board for those able to afford it. Drinks were quite bland with a lot of the bartenders seemingly still going through training and making drinks very weak. Would not recommend whatsoever to anyone with smaller children or anyone below the age of 18. They won't be able to enjoy 90% of what the cruise has to offer on their own or even with parental signed permission/consent
Would love to try a suite once, but hubby and I don’t have anyone else to go with. I also wonder if having a suite would spoil future cruises without one.
Hi Gary , thanks for the video really informative. We are regular Celebrity cruisers but yet to try this new class , as prices seem high in comparison to Solstice class. Do you think it is worth the extra ?
We have been on this ship and plan to go on it again! Definitely worth the price, especially if you get the new deals that include everything like drinks and gratuities.
I'm not finding this ship class to my taste. I loved the Zenith, Horizon, Galaxy especially, Century, Mercury. I didn't love the Constellation for a particular reason. I think I like the Solstice class of ships. The problem I have with this ship is I don't see lounges. I love ship lounges. I like dance floors and intimate spaces with varying types of music to enjoy. There were lots of lounges on the Horizon and Century class ships. There was one less on the Millennium class Constellation and I really missed it (the aft lounge). While the Solstice class doesn't have the aft lounge, at least the Martini bar area is nice and there were other intimate spaces to enjoy. The Edge looks almost like a free-style NCL multi-dining ship but without NCL's lounges. If they'd put in more lounges then it would have more appeal. But I guess Celebrity built the ship around the dining experience vs. the socializing in lounges experience.
I hope they get the air conditioning right. I was on Celebrity Equinox and the buffet restaurant had cold air blasting away. We quickly found that dining just outside the restaurant at the back more comfortable.
Thank you Gary. In reference to the eight things that are unique to RC, we are new to cruising and or son bought us a balcony on Allure if The Seas in September, ‘21 on deck 14. In your opinion, do you think Allure will actually sail then?
I agree. I know that opening that window is going to let in all the humidity of Caribbean or the cold of Alaska, or whatever climate one is traveling in. Other than climate, it’s not a bad idea to me.
I wonder if there are people who prefer the Reflection over the Edge? Or the Constellation (quite old but is it still good?) over the Beyond? I’m just trying to determine whether the newer ships are worth the extra $$.
Absolutely. And the reason is the spaces that the Edge does not have. There is no forward facing observation lounge. That's really one of the biggest complaints. Not everyone likes the Eden area or what goes on there. Not everyone prefers the placement of the Martini Bar in the Grand Plaza or its style vs. the one of the Solstice class ships. The other problem is just how much of the ship is geared to suit suite passengers and is reserved for them. The thing about the Edge is, it has a lot of dining option. But Solstice has a good amount of the same ones. I'm not even that sure that the appointments/decor is nicer in the Edge ships. It's different but both are quite nice.
So I was just on the celebrity summit and they are pushing the edge like crazy. However, we had such an overall bad experience I wont cruise with them again.
@@tipsfortravellers problems with tendering in Rhode Island and it was so bad that passengers where tense and then the staff got tense. Saw a verbal altercation between staff and crew. I couldn't believe the staff was yelling at passengers. I had a $100 credit on my room and it was listed on the tv until the last day of the cruise. I went to front desk to see what happened. They searched the phone records could not confirm I had a credit. I had to wait until I got home to get the money refunded to my account. Our shower didn't drain correctly and our bathroom would flood. It seemed like the staff could use more training. They would advertise a laundry special and the room Stewart didn't know or have the bag for the special. It was a bunch of small things that added up to the overall unpleasantness of the cruise.
I agree was on the solstice out of Sydney, was like a ghost ship past 10pm. The tendering process at bay of islands was a zoo, took us 2.5hrs to get off. First and last time with celebrity until I’m of their age demographic
All cruise ships have modern safety equipment, modern bridges, and decent engines. There are no 'Tramp Steamers' out there anymore. Plus, ships undergo refit and modernization in drydock on a set schedule. In short: They are all as 'safe' as the industry can make them.
@@chriswilliams6568 They aren't. They're being scrapped in 25-30 years because the industry is marketing new ships all the time. The Celebrity Zenith and Horizon were both scrapped at around 30 years in service.
@@chriswilliams6568 You're right. I was thinking of a Costa ship that was scrapped after just 25 years in service and the Horizon and Zenith that were sold off but still scrapped after 30 years. I think there's value in ships like the QE2 that sailed for Cunard until retired. Even the France got sold to NCL and sailed as the Norway for a long time and it was a thing to sail on the Norway opposed to the newer ships. I think there's a different feel and ambiance to ships that everyone could enjoy and it's not always best to be on the newest ships for everyone. Sometimes I feel some cruisers just desire the newest and newer isn't always necessarily better for everyone and in some classes and cruise lines, some aspects of previous classes are dropped that people really treasured in their cruises. For Celebrity, for instance, I miss several aspects of the Century ships.
Took this ship on a nice cruise the first Christmas it was in operation. Would I do it again? NO... Recommended (unless you are taking kids) Do not go on this beautiful ship at Christmas or school holidays... too many rowdy, yelling children for any couple to enjoy a chill week, with good food, good gambling, nice stop-overs and great attractions. If I see one more Dennis the Menace type kid trying to rip or damage some original artwork on the walls of an elegant cruise ship like the Edge again... I'll boycott the buffet! If I want to be around kids, I'll take my grandkids on a Disney cruise. They can try to damage those ships, which have everything bolted down... Other than that, the Edge came as advertised...Beautiful!

Ohbyes! I saw that vids of the upcoming virgin scarlet cruise ship
Omg crazy cool concept of cruising. We will see....
Great information and video quality!
Very good points - thanks for creating and sharing~
Thanks for watching! Great to hear
loved the video, thx Gary
Thanks 👍
I did the Caribbean tour on the Celebrity Reflection and it was great. Looking forward to cruising on an Edge class ship.
Le Petit Chef dining is the most unique dining at sea!
I did that! Your table comes alive with fun.
Nice video. This was much more helpful than the celebrity website. The website do a great job of explaining the dining experience.
Just booked our first Edge class ship for next year, a rebook of our FCC…was the Edge now on the Beyond as we liked the itinerary. Just so excited to have a cruise to look forward to! @Gary would love a tour and your take of the Beyond when it comes comes around if in your plans?
This is a great video - very well done and gives lots of great information. Thank you!
Thanks for watching! Great to hear :-)
I love Equinox too! Thanks for watching this video 😀😀👍🏻
I ve sailed Equinox last christmas. EQUINOX has been dry docked in may 2019..i m sure still improved
Thanks for the great tips!
This ship is beautiful! Stunning.
I just did the Norwegian Bliss last month. Edge or the Apex are next on my list!
Great video, thanks for your work.
Thanks (again). We sail on her in the Med this year, and feel like this gives us somewhat of a leg up. First time on Celebrity, so we won’t. Price the “departures” that you spoke of
How was your trip? I am cruising on The Edge in January 2020 and would like a recent, honest opinion.
2:18 that guy on left really likes his job😅
Went on a 21 night cruise on the Edge and loved most of it......great service, great food ( free stuff anyway ), but even though we are 60yr olds, we felt it was geared more for older people. The entertainment was more 60's rather than 80's or 90's. As we were in port nearly every day it didn't matter too much. Eden we feel is a bit of a flop.....rarely many people there, entertainment is weird and chairs are very comfortable but not practicable, very hard to get back out of.
Greig Spencer on longer cruises there are always older folk. Stands to reason.
My wife and I have been on 40+ cruises with Celebrity and the Edge is on our “not again list”.
How much money do you even have?! I can't afford any cruises
Thank you for your review Gary. Celebrity is my favorite line for dining 😃 however Disney was close and I really enjoyed going to the different restaurants with the same staff and guests. It's always fun to make new friends however that may be more difficult with the edge class dining arrangement.
Arlene Stone They still have set dining times or Select times.
Highly Informative video! Thank you for sharing!
What about the Infinity Balconies especially in a windy sea day, do your things get blown around your cabin?
Colin Ely you can close the balcony off so it becomes a big window
@@femmefuntime yes but if its a bit windy you can still go out on a conventional balcony and close the door to your cabin. Although if it was windy you probably wouldn't go out anyway!
Your videos that give an overview of various cruise lines are so well done, balanced, and very helpful. Thank you.
Me and my wife are booked to go on Edge in Feb 2025 from NZ to Fiji return. We're staying in a internal room with no sea view (cheapest)
I’ve just booked the Edge in July round the Med - thanks for the video Gary - as ever clear & precise
I look forward to sailing on her and comparing notes with you ! I’m not sure about the balcony concept but I’ll soon see :)))
Only thing I miss tbh is the formal nights - it was so nice (in my opinion) dressing up in black tie & the ladies in ball gowns - shame it’s gone :(((
RadRich yes celebrity were very good and quick to offer a full refund ..... am totally gutted as cruising I think is one of the best ways to travel ......
We were on the Apex last December and the Magic Carpet was not used for tendering. Enjoyed the ship but I think we prefer Solstice class.
The ship is the cruise. Are ports now marginally incremental in the cruising experience?
So well filmed ! Great job
I loved taking the Edge!! No negative comments here.
u2good2b4gotn the room was great. The rooftop garden was nice to sit on especially when the sunsets.
u2good2b4gotn I could keep going. The magic carpet wasn’t something to rave about
u2good2b4gotn how did you like Holland and Norwegian?
@@shana9740 did you try any of the specialty dining? If so, which ones?
Hey Gary, great video!!! We are going to Alaska next year but can’t decide on a two bedrooms or something bigger. We have 3 people. What do you suggest ? Thanks!!!
Another excellent video - thanks Gary!
Well done, as usual, Gary. Looks like a great ship.
Magic Carpet: nice name for the eyesore.
At first, I thought it would be an ugly contraption. However, it seems that it has been incorporated well into the function of the ship.
Fantastic video. We’ll be on the Edge in 3 weeks. This got me excited!
How was your trip? I am cruising on The Edge in January 2020 and would like a recent, honest opinion.
Helpful! This looks like a class of ship I’d really like! 👍🏼💖💗👍🏼
Thanks for the video. Can you tell me if they have a coffee bar like on the solstice ships?
They do, it’s on deck 4
You were on with me then too :-) I was on there!
@@tipsfortravellers From Rome to Barcelona?
Loved this video, a great summary of Celebrity Edge
Great information thank you
Will get to see the northern lights in August?
Is the Ocean View Cafe still open during the day so one can sit inside, drink coffee (or whatever), play cards or read?
Yes, it is.
@@adrianrobson7822 Thank you
Any cruise is a good cruise, looks fantastic 👍
We're sailing on Enchanted Princess next year🛳
If I want to go to Vegas, I will go to Vegas. Give me a conservative ship with true, old fashioned class.
I just came off the Celebrity Equinox (after the refit) and I loved it. I don't know if I'm going to like this new ship.
Just looked at the prices, good god,I’d need to win the lottery
These massive Cruise ships just overwhelm any Caribbean port they dock in. It is INSANE on shore
Very Interested in a celebrity cruise do they have many sailings from uk. As we aren't keen on fly cruises
Do you have to make reservations for the "main" dining areas?
We were on the flexible dining option so didn't have to book, although there was sometimes a slight wait for a table.
@@adrianrobson7822 Thanks!
@@adrianrobson7822 How long were the wait times?
@@Haroldnca up to 30 minutes, but if you speak nicely to the girl at the reception desk then it was usually less.
If on select dining times, one can still make reservations.
Are you intentionally avoiding Carnival?
Everyone should avoid Carnival.
Now in 2021 the celebrity beyond comes!!!
Hi Gary , thanks for the video really informative. We are regular Celebrity cruisers but yet to try this new class , as prices seem high in comparison to Solstice class. Do you think it is worth the extra ?
The Best of Walsall prices always higher on new ships.
Going soon any suggestions?
I hope they get the air conditioning right. I was on Celebrity Equinox and the buffet restaurant had cold air blasting away. We quickly found that dining just outside the restaurant at the back more comfortable.
Thank you Gary. In reference to the eight things that are unique to RC, we are new to cruising and or son bought us a balcony on Allure if The Seas in September, ‘21 on deck 14. In your opinion, do you think Allure will actually sail then?
yes, they should be!
Excellent video
It’s a stunning vessel! It’s definitely not fit for people who are cruise on Carnival cruises.
Celebrity cruise lines is more upscale.
Beautiful ship !!!
The only part I’m not to sure about is the balcony, I think I’d rather have a standard balcony
I agree. I know that opening that window is going to let in all the humidity of Caribbean or the cold of Alaska, or whatever climate one is traveling in. Other than climate, it’s not a bad idea to me.
@@shatelethomas8527 I just like having the separation between outside and inside, Nice to go relax outside while people are getting ready inside etc.
It would be nice if they add a specialty dining of vegan fare.
Love that idea! I’m vegetarian and would love that
I wonder if there are people who prefer the Reflection over the Edge?
Sorry to hear you had a bad experience on your Celebrity cruise. What was wrong?
Can you tell me why you didn’t like celebrity?
Can you do a video on the age of the cruise ships for safety travel purposes?
All cruise ships have modern safety equipment, modern bridges, and decent engines. There are no 'Tramp Steamers' out there anymore. Plus, ships undergo refit and modernization in drydock on a set schedule. In short: They are all as 'safe' as the industry can make them.
Paul T. Well said. Many folk forget that these ships are so expensive they have to last more than 50 years.
@@chriswilliams6568 They aren't. They're being scrapped in 25-30 years because the industry is marketing new ships all the time. The Celebrity Zenith and Horizon were both scrapped at around 30 years in service.
@@benjaminsmith2287 this is not always the case, most are sold off to a lesser quality cruise line, I was in the industry for 30 years.
