I am new too the hobby. Bought myself a RTF quad with FPV, but not the goggles. Heard about Liftoff through you guys, bought it downloaded it. Did a few hours with the tutorial, and a few free flight in the simulator. I got my FPV goggles, first flight in the field, I went straight to full Acro mode, (I normally fly self leveling mode in LOS) was flying well enough, just need to work on my landings now. The simulator is a great training tool!
I'm practicing with Liftoff too, I can fly in acro, but it's not really clear how to land. I imagine that in real life, the first time I'll try a real drone I'll take off in level and switch to level when I want to land, else it looks like a suicidal in your first flight to take off and land in acro, even after hours of training with Liftoff. I mean what if the transmitter was not set correctly etc. at least in level you expect the quad not to do crazy things...
I can not describe how much I appreciate FliteTest's credibility. As soon as I heard what it was and that FliteTest contacted them because they just liked the product and wanted to talk about it, I knew I wanted it. I have been wanting to start flying drones for so long now, but have never really afforded it. I know this isn't the same, but it's going to give me a great indication as to if saving up for a drone is worth it for me. You may have caused a spark in me that will grow to a passionate fire for flight, FlitetTest. Thank you for that. (Yes, I'm aware of how cheesy that was.)
Thank you for the kind words friend and I can't wait to see your journey! Please don't hesitate to reach out with questions. We have the coolest flying family in the world!
flying feels amazing . even in the simulator. it is therapeutic and thrilling at the same time. if u enjoy it on an xbox pad deffo buy a real radio coz it feels even better
DawntreaderUK that is a good point my friend! Using a real transmitter will DEF give the best feel best experience!

i just started to use liftoff to learn to fly, and your advice about flying it like it is your own $500 drone is priceless. i don't even own an expensive drone yet, but your comment makes sense because it's easy to just go full throttle on everything thinking that's the best and fastest way to learn when in reality it's just slowing you down and getting you frustrated. And your advice about using it for drills is great. The technique of drilling is boring and that's why it is highly underrated. That's why only the better to elite athletes, gamesmen, hobbyists, and professionals understand the true value of this training concept. thanks.
You have inspired me to go play Liftoff again. I bought it months ago and played for a week, got busy and forgot about it. It is awesome a woth every penny.
i bought this simulator a while ago and I love it! it's helped me get over the self level crutch and now i'm training to enter a race team!!! This simulator is perfect for anyone who wants to learn to fly, or wants to practice but doesn't have the time! 100% recommend this to anyone!
Oh shit guys!!! Thank you so much!! I've been flying liftoff for a long time. And now you've opened it up to a ton of people!!! The lobby is always very skim.
I got to test this little thing 2 years ago in geneva at a game convention while it was still in development, and got to speak with the guys from LuGus. After about 15 minutes of getting to know the controls, I was 3D-ing the heck out of the drones, despite not having any prior experience with drones. Great fun, and easy to get into.
I got this when it was still early access on Steam...its definitely the cheapest way to learn acro mode. Don't use a xbox/console controller though. They're too sensitive and they all have "return to center" sticks. You need a dead throttle stick with longer throws to learn how to fly hobby-grade quads. I bought a RTF Walkera Rodeo 150 earlier this year and the Devo 7 transmitter included a cable to connect the controller to the PC.
Blizofoz45 hot glue chop sticks to increase the throw angle and take the spring out of the throttle side of a $7-10 PC game controller and you're in like sin...almost literally lol
Blizofoz45 haha, yeah dude...it's not magic that returns it to center lol ...you'll have to probable remove the stick switch unit from the board to get at the spring mechanisms that you want gone. So if you don't know electronicals and how to desolder and solder then there's no chance you're herring it to happen for ya.
Udit Gupta just buy a USB PC gaming controler on eBay or flash sale from gearbest or something...find a price you like and buy it. $15-20 will get you a kick ass controller or spend less and get a less fancy one
having liftoff for months now i can say it's the best evolving simulator for FPV kwads. it's getting better by the patch...it really helps to learn tricks and helps you gain confidence without exploding the kwad :D
I had noticed Alex's freestyle flying had improved noticeably recently and he mentioned that he had started using Liftoff. I immediately got it too and I like it a lot more than the DRL simulator that I had been using. It has also improved my abilities.
flitetest told me to buy real flight 7.5 and with the game physics turned to 150% and the throttle trim to the max.. I find the tricopter with 30deg camera up tilt works great as an FPV simulator.. i wonder how much better this potentially is?
I try to use LiftOff whenever I have spare time. I tried DRL and while cool, DRL doesn't feel as realistic as LiftOff. I've been recommending LiftOff to all my friends. I truly believe sims help young and older people improve their flying skills. I remember back in 2005 learning to fly RC planes in just one day after training on the sim for a month or so. Also helps to start with a not so expensive drone or rc plane to take away the anxiety of an expensive crash.
First off thank you guys for the constant amazing content. I have been heavily interested in fpv for awhile now and doing as much research as possible. Being that I'm at that wonderful adult stage where "fun money" is minimal. I feel like getting a transmitter and a simulator like this would be a very cost effective way to get through the bumps and bruises of learning to fly. Would this be a good way to start? Fly the simulators and get comfortable before even building a quad copter, or will I be developing bad habits? Thank you for your input.
+Bakers Field they make USB Rx's now! Finally! Is there a inexpensive option for a Taranis on a Mac ? Have not used liftoff for a while, I want to get back into it now that it has some new toys to play with, and clearly they have been continuing to work on it and add features.
Love it! Any chance the Versacopter v2 and FT210 being added? Can't wait to give this a shot once we get our new pc. Will be using the Versacopter v2 for a trainer for our FTSTEM and will be using the FT210 as a practice racer. Also Graupner Radios.
I'll say this for the RealFlight series of simulators: I flew fixed wing on those exclusively, long before I ever attempted to fly a real fixed wing r/c. Then one day, my father, with decades of real r/c experience, let me fly one of his planes. He told me I was a better pilot than he felt like he was, and, I landed the first attempt without crashing. This was a feat that took him many months to accomplish when he first started flying.
I was watching drone racing and I just thought this would be cool as hell to be a game but I didn’t know how to make a game. This game right here is exactly what I imagined it would be, it’s so cool to see this game in real life
This was the perfect video to answer my question! I just got into the hobby and the first thing I bought was a radio and I downloaded the DRL sim to practice. It's taught me how to handle the controls but Liftoff seems like it would be more realistic! So thank you for this!
Thank you!!! I'm sure I saved a ton of money and time by investing in this sim. I can't tell you how many times I've already crashed and how much this sim has helped me to avoid having to climb trees and replacing props lol
That is one cool game. I'll have to get that one when it comes back in stock. I downloaded the DRL High Voltage simulator but haven't played it yet. Since I have the Taranis QX7, what kind of cable would I need to play these simulators?
You can find the exact dimensions of the foamboard on the Flite Tests Store, go to "Accessiories" and then to "Foam Board". In the describtion you can find the dimensions.
Is there a trial or demo available for this? I'm running a Hackintosh so I'm neither running Windows nor genuine Mac but would still love to try it. I only have a PS4 controller though.
I purchased real flight 7.5 awhile back when I was still in the process of building my plane (balsa)... I was a total noob to rc, but gave me a huge advance to my maiden flight. Practiced landings over and over for days.

[UPDATE] So i've been practicing on Liftoff and I can say that I feel waaaaay more comfortable with my controls now. So much so that DRL simulator actually doesn't feel quite right anymore. I can actually get through a DRL sim course now when before i couldn't get past the first turn LOL. So Big thank you for this video and for referring LIFTOFF!
Hey guys I have a question Im new to your channel and maybe you can save me some time.. Are there fpv planes yet? like lightweight ones that are maybe acrobatic and you can race with? Ive seen a plane have a swivel camera linked to a set of goggles that allowed them to turn n stuff.. are there any fpv planes or quads like that currently? Love acviation and drones and rc Ive just been a busy dude elsewhere and would love to dive right in lol. I just got a spark I know its a different class
Hello. I'm planning to get Liftoff, but I don't know how to rig up my RC transmitter to my PC, what dongle do I use and how do I make my PC identify the transmitter, calibration of the transmitter etc.
Is it in VR?? if its not then it should be right? I would like to see it on the Vive Pro as I'm not sure if I want to get into FPF, but on the other hand I'm not sure how decent the quality is of FPV goggles as I had the original HTC Vive and the visual quality was terrible so I had to get the Vive Pro and I can imagine FPV goggles even being much better than the original Vive.
Hey FliteTest Crew, I'm a 107 commercial pilot, Camera drones "DJI" doing some real-estate and lots of inspection work. Decided to start playing with this FPV stuff, Got my self a TinyHawk and a Taranis X7, Everything is all set up and after watching this video I decided to buy the sim LiftOff... But both of the links in this video are broken. :-(
It was a gift I gave to the guys and gals at Flite Test at Flite Fest East. If you want to build one you can download the plans on the forums here. vvv forum.flitetest.com/showthread.php?36276-Dat-Rhino
Also, have you tried playing the simulator using fpv goggles with hdmi-input rather than playing the simulator on an ordinary computer monitor? I wish that the developers of these simulators would release their simulators on the ps 4 and the Xbox One whatever, of course having support of the various input devices, like Interlink usb-controller, perhaps a Taranis, spektrum and Turnigy usb-dongles, on the consoles.
It's the end if 2019 and Liftoff is still going strong. Still updates with new features and maps and still has an active player base. Still the best drone sim out imho.
Been using lift off for months - pleased they are introducing the bouncing of objects... sometimes it's felt like you're flying a drone covered in Velcro through Velcro gates !! :D
I use PhoenixRC 5.5 for everything but multi rotors, and use DRL for multi rotors. PhoenixRC with a entry level transmitter (DXe) runs around $120.DRL is free online. Also you can use a ps4//xbox control to play , but the point is to "Learn the Sticks" so whatever simulator you choose get a real transmitter to go with it. You don't have to burn you wallet either, a 6 channel Tx is a good start point in my opinion.
DawntreaderUK I know you can change the weight of the quads. Maybe that will help. I also like that made her flight is in liftoff. Kind of get you used to how pids work.
Thank you so much for this! Really like the thoughts about "pretend you're really flying" and the "click" effect in reality after doing powerloops on the sim for long enough ;-) I am still new, already at my second build though, and love this awesome playfield of improving to be an artful flying bird up there ;-) Have fun and thanks a lot again ;)
the first plane I flew was in fact a F-18 I build from internet plans ;) I am actually hoping for a quality P-38 the plans I find are either too boxy or lack instructions :/
So, how do you use it with a Spektrum Tx? It says it supports FPV Goggles, how do you use it with that? Little more information in this vid would have been helpful.
You need USB simulator cable found here www.amazon.com/Simulator-RealFlight-Spektrum-Helicopter-Controller/dp/B00HRYAM78 , as mentioned in previous post, PhoenixRC cable will not work, I have DX6 and this cheap USB cable works great.
I am new too the hobby. Bought myself a RTF quad with FPV, but not the goggles. Heard about Liftoff through you guys, bought it downloaded it. Did a few hours with the tutorial, and a few free flight in the simulator. Yes!
Awesome first time, one of my comments has been highlighted :D

how you getting on out of curiosity? I'm just getting into the simulator stuff now, will hopefully take the plunge into drones soon
Mostly lost interest in the hobby, but simulator did help me a lot. If I did it again I would with get the simulator first then the drone

FliteTest can you do a video on how to setup a spektrum transmitter please??
I've been flying Liftoff for a few months now and I like it. I have learned a lot and now am not afraid to go to the park and have fun :)

Drone Racing League is also free to play and I prefer that one personally. Give both a shot.
Thank you for the kind words friend and I can't wait to see your journey! Please don't hesitate to reach out with questions. We have the coolest flying family in the world!

I didn't realize Liftoff was this good for acro freestyle. thank you for this.
You have inspired me to go play Liftoff again. I bought it months ago and played for a week, got busy and forgot about it. It is awesome a woth every penny.
Flyin High FPV that's AWESOME! Such a great sim!
Can I play it with an VR headset like the oculus rift or the HTC Vive?
Met the creators of Liftoff a few times (their office is 50 miles from my home) and they really understand and listen to the FPV community 👍
i bought this simulator a while ago and I love it! it's helped me get over the self level crutch and now i'm training to enter a race team!!! This simulator is perfect for anyone who wants to learn to fly, or wants to practice but doesn't have the time! 100% recommend this to anyone!

Only $19.99 not on sale...
And $16.99 ON SALE.....!
AWESOME!

Blizofoz45 haha, yeah dude...it's not magic that returns it to center lol ...you'll have to probable remove the stick switch unit from the board to get at the spring mechanisms that you want gone. Make sure after remote calibration your yaw pitch roll is centered as mine were offset and had to fine tune to center them
having liftoff for months now i can say it's the best evolving simulator for FPV kwads. it's getting better by the patch...it really helps to learn tricks and helps you gain confidence without exploding the kwad :D
Are you guys planning on going to the Props and Pistons air show in Akron?
lift off has helped me get better at acro flying, could not do it a few weeks ago now all i do is acro mode lovin it thanks Lift off!!!!
I had noticed Alex's freestyle flying had improved noticeably recently and he mentioned that he had started using Liftoff. I immediately got it too and I like it a lot more than the DRL simulator that I had been using. It has also improved my abilities.
I still think Velocidrone does feel better. But the gap is getting smaller and smaller.
Velocidrone is much more REALISTIC. Plus the PID and betaflight setup is closer to the actual BF PIDS
flitetest told me to buy real flight 7.5 and with the game physics turned to 150% and the throttle trim to the max.. I find the tricopter with 30deg camera up tilt works great as an FPV simulator.. i wonder how much better this potentially is?
teamSAF bmx I do NOT recommend RealFlight for quadcopter simulation.

Just need a transmitter, a usb receiver and Liftoff or Drone Race League. I prefer DRL because it feel more accurate than Liftoff.
+Bakers Field they make USB Rx's now!
Finally!
Is there a inexpensive option for a Taranis on a Mac ?
Have not used liftoff for a while, I want to get back into it now that it has some new toys to play with, and clearly they have been continuing to work on it and add features.
My taranis Qx7 is plug and play with my mac. I plugged it in and it works, I have used both liftoff and Freerider.
I play fpv event 250/rotor rush, but I may have to try lift off since it's been updated quite a bit from the beginning...
Question i have a spectrum radio what else do i need to fly with it
Love it! Any chance the Versacopter v2 and FT210 being added? Can't wait to give this a shot once we get our new pc. Will be using the Versacopter v2 for a trainer for our FTSTEM and will be using the FT210 as a practice racer. Also Graupner Radios.
I've heard many people say that Velocidrone has much more realistic physics, which is why I got it and I love it :)
What's the F18 hanging on the wall? Nice.
Best freestyle set up? Fastest race setup?
I'll say this for the RealFlight series of simulators: I flew fixed wing on those exclusively, long before I ever attempted to fly a real fixed wing r/c. Then one day, my father, with decades of real r/c experience, let me fly one of his planes. He told me I was a better pilot than he felt like he was, and, I landed the first attempt without crashing. This was a feat that took him many months to accomplish when he first started flying.
Really nice! But I was hoping you guys show how to connect the control to the computer. (Yes, I'm completely noob at all of that!)
Really interested. do you need to have a special Lead to use with your transmitter or can I use a aux cord. I fly with a dx6i
I was watching drone racing and I just thought this would be cool as hell to be a game but I didn’t know how to make a game. This game right here is exactly what I imagined it would be, it’s so cool to see this game in real life
Is that F-18 in the background a kit? How did you do the skinning?
can you use the controller from RealFlight sim?
That's a very good question... That's what I'm planning to use so I hope so... doesn't anyone know the answer please? (Thanks James for asking)
James , it does work for me on my MacBook pro... no presets though but the manual config works
Yes you can. That's what I've been using for over 500 hours.
what transmitter are you using Alex?
Can you use the freerider settings on a taranus be used for lift off?Don't want to set up new model.
What USB receiver dongle are you using for the Spektrum transmitter? Thanks?
It is just a SPEKTRUM USB dongle that we will be providing on our store here soon! Or you can get it directly from Spektrum also!
Are there any 3 inch quads in liftoff ?
This was the perfect video to answer my question! I just got into the hobby and the first thing I bought was a radio and I downloaded the DRL sim to practice. It's taught me how to handle the controls but Liftoff seems like it would be more realistic! So thank you for this!
Thank YOU!! So glad we could help and thanks for the support my friend!
Since I have the Taranis QX7, what kind of cable would I need to play these simulators?
usb mini to normal usb 👍
SpeedyNecrosis Thanks much
Suggested controller to use with this in 2018?
Hey guys can I just ask, What size foamboard do you use for your scratch build, A1? A2? what size and thanks for all the great vids over the years :)
You can find the exact dimensions of the foamboard on the Flite Tests Store, go to "Accessiories" and then to "Foam Board". In the describtion you can find the dimensions.
20x30 inches iirc
ive been using fpv freerider which is heaps of fun and a great tool but it docent have the customization feature!!
Is there a trial or demo available for this? I'm running a Hackintosh so I'm neither running Windows nor genuine Mac but would still love to try it. I only have a PS4 controller though.
I love liftoff. I started with a xbox controller then bought a Turnigy Evolution which will hook right up. Definitely a great way to learn to fly.
I purchased real flight 7.5 awhile back when I was still in the process of building my plane (balsa)... I was a total noob to rc, but gave me a huge advance to my maiden flight. Practiced landings over and over for days.
Purchased from flitetest store but no steam code sent how do i get it
I spent a couple hundred hours in LiftOff before building my first micro quad. My first real flight was fantastic and way more fun that I thought it would be.
I miss my gaming PC now, running this on my MacBook air is a struggle.:D
HI Flite Test how its going n hey i what to try quad freestyle so should i start with
Music the whole episode?
FPV Airtracks is a decent free one to try. I tried DRL but found it hard to setup with my DX6. Might consider purchasing this when winter sets in.
Just a quick question for you guys. Do you know if this sim would work with the same transmitter you get with the Walkera 110 FPV quad?
Do they have the DJI avata 2 controller?
Can I use my Phoenix rc sim USB to use this?
Grackle FPV nope, the cable is only for the Phoenix sim
There are cheap cables on amazon, they cost about 10 bucks
where do i download the liftoff simulator or do i porches it from flight test pls let me know
does the Hitec aurora work with Liftoff? i cant get it to work? Any suggetions? or am i running a mac?
What FOV is recommended for flight simulators!
Hey guys, what's the Flite Test jet on the background wall?
It was a gift I gave to the guys and gals at Flite Test at Flite Fest East. If you want to build one you can download the plans on the forums here. vvv
forum.flitetest.com/showthread.php?36276-Dat-Rhino
WE LOVE it too! It is seriously a WORK OF ART neil!! Thanks again for the AWESOME plane!
You are welcome brother. You guys are doing great things for the hobby. Keep it up!
Will a realflight interlink controller work with Liftoff?
Yes, it does. I have and use the interlink in liftoff.
the scenery / location looks amazing.
i love the forest and basement parking!
can this be used with mouse and keyboard?
Also, have you tried playing the simulator using fpv goggles with hdmi-input rather than playing the simulator on an ordinary computer monitor? I wish that the developers of these simulators would release their simulators on the ps 4 and the Xbox One whatever, of course having support of the various input devices, like Interlink usb-controller, perhaps a Taranis, spektrum and Turnigy usb-dongles, on the consoles.
What is required to use a dx7 black?
It's the end if 2019 and Liftoff is still going strong. Still updates with new features and maps and still has an active player base. Still the best drone sim out imho.
Will Liftoff work with my Phoenix radio cable?
Velocidrone is good too
What do you need to hook up a spektrum transmitter to it?
a dongle, Spektrum sells one :)
I have a DJI phantom 4 pro drone. Will the P4P transmitter/controller work in this game?.
Hi, I'm planning on using my dx6i controller for Liftoff. Any suggestions on what usb to transmitter cord I should order?
Been using lift off for months - pleased they are introducing the bouncing of objects... sometimes it's felt like you're flying a drone covered in Velcro through Velcro gates !! :D
If I want to use my Taranis to fly in this simulator what adapter do I need?
just a mini usb, auto detects as usb joystick
Sloth FPV thanks!
I know I'm late to the game but do I need any special cables for the Taranis QX7?
Is there a test of Liftoff you can do on your system before buying? I'm not sure my laptop will do...
My MacBook Air can run it albeit with very low settings. It is smooth and flyable.
LOL! My laptop is about a quarter of the price of a MacBook Air... So I'm guessing it wouldn't be playable on mine ;)
Bought LiftOff a while back and I've been getting in some stick time every so often. Are any of the flite test guys playing multiplayer?
gaptoofgranny alex might be, possibly TJ! I'm sure we will be around tho ;)
Is there some kind of in game chat to communicate with people online?
Carter Kaess multiplayer has a chat function. Steam also has voice chat functionality.
can you use fpv goggles in liftoff? if not is that something they are working on?
You can if your goggles support hdmi inputs and you have a spare hdmi output to plug into.
do you think pinch is better than thumbs.
I've been playing liftoff every day with my fatshark dominator hd3's that I bought from you! It's so awesome!
Just A Drone With A Dream whats your steam name? Lets fly bro
Cool! My steam name is jonesmorgan
Can you talk to them about putting the RealFlight radio system in the game
Its already supported.
Liftoff looks great but the quads have no inertia, they just stop when you take your foot off the gas, that would be my main complaint.
littlestworkshop drl feels that way to me.
u think ? can u change the settings on that. i feel DRL is like that too.
DawntreaderUK I know you can change the weight of the quads. Maybe that will help. I also like that made her flight is in liftoff. Kind of get you used to how pids work.
I am sure the physics engine can fix that with some code.
Hey, I need help I just bought sukhoi 19 mm and using a jr 12x2.4 transmitter everything is working but throttle . What should I do ?
8:38 through 8:49 is where mr Steele flew at that drone grass place
Thank you so much for this!
Really like the thoughts about "pretend you're really flying" and the "click" effect in reality after doing powerloops on the sim for long enough ;-)
I am still new, already at my second build though, and love this awesome playfield of improving to be an artful flying bird up there ;-)
Have fun and thanks a lot again ;)
Is that a Ft F-18 in the background?
I hope they come out with it in the store! F-18 is one of my fav airplanes
the first plane I flew was in fact a F-18 I build from internet plans ;)
I am actually hoping for a quality P-38
the plans I find are either too boxy or lack instructions :/
So, how do you use it with a Spektrum Tx? It says it supports FPV Goggles, how do you use it with that? Little more information in this vid would have been helpful.
You need USB simulator cable found here www.amazon.com/Simulator-RealFlight-Spektrum-Helicopter-Controller/dp/B00HRYAM78 , as mentioned in previous post, PhoenixRC cable will not work, I have DX6 and this cheap USB cable works great.
Hobbyking do a DSMX dongle for Spektrum so you can be wireless too.
Loved this game since the day it came out. Learned me to fly before i bought my first fpv drone
Great video guys .I have learned much . Subbed.
Can you use a dji phantom 3 standard controller?
I'm afraid not, DJI is a bit of a closed system.
I kno very little about computers. Will asus q304u work with this sim?
RC crazed slim phast on the back wall, nice !
Can I use dji phantom 3 controller
Does the sim only support FPV or 3rd person too?
There's a 3rd person view (cam behind the drone) and Light Of Sight mode as well :)
Or maybe standing at one position and flying around?
kimoshwaby yes, that's what we call Light of Sight (LOS). You can even run around, picking a nice spot to start from :)
Do you need a computer or does like ios or a tv work?
You need a good PC to play this. You can find the minimum system requirements on the Liftoff Steam store page :)
Are they also going to make it for ps4.
