- What would happen if everyone in the world played on one Minecraft Server? In this video, we investigate this question by applying sociology theories in political science from real life to Minecraft.

Would societies go underground, or reach for the stars? Would Mumbo Jumbo and SethBling hold the world hostage with redstone technology? Or would a United Nations with Minecrafters be established to prevent massive wars? Would societies go underground, or reach for the stars? Would Mumbo Jumbo and SethBling hold the world hostage with redstone technology? Or would a United Nations with Minecrafters be established to prevent massive wars?
This is sociology in Minecraft. We will see how societies form as everyone is stuck in Minecraft. Such a change would make it so that Minecraft is real life (even harder than RLCraft). So what if everyone became trapped in Minecraft? What if Minecraft wasn't just a game? This is how societies would manifest in Minecraft. This is Minecraft in Real Life.
I investigate the idea of everyone being stuck in Minecraft together and talk about what societies / civilizations would form / survival methods would be created / conflicts would be fought and how would veterans like Dream, Technoblade, MumboJumbo, and SethBling rise to power.
Would Dream try to speedrun Minecraft? What would wars look like? Would people try to team up or fight each other for resources? Would societies hunt for food or become more agrarian? What would hospitals, schools and banks look like?
I had a lot of fun creating this script talking with many political scientists at universities like USC, Notre Dame, UCLA, and Cornell. The educational style of this video is similar to VSauce, Wifies in parts. A large influence on this series has come from content creators like VSauce and Wifies.

I dont think you emphasized villagers enough. Any experienced player would set up trading halls as fast as possible and get unlimited diamond gear supplies.
only people who play would
The moment that any experienced player finds a village, they'll have to protect it with their life so no one kills the villagers. They are the main way to get infinite resources so they will be very valuable to people
considering that spawns are randomized in this hypothetical, I'm sure a large amount of people would band together to create a sort of "lost and found organization" to try and help people reunite with their friends and families after the initial chaos of ending up in a strange place with strange people. Over time they will use books to archive the people's information as accurately as possible, including full name, date of birth, previous phone numbers and addresses, etc. so for example when someone asks if they know where they could find a man named Victor Frederick Harley is, they could get back a clear answer on whether someone came in to confirm his death, his fate is undetermined, or if he is alive in which case they can plan a reunion.
or, what if everyone's spawning is based on how close they really are irl? So for example, since 1 minecraft block is 1 meter, if you were one meter away from someone irl you'd be just 1 block away from then in minecraft.

This consept kinda frightens me. Knowing myself I would gather people I trust and move to the farthest, most secluded, yet hidden place I can find. And from there we would live out our lives and quietly get stacked so that we can protect ourselves. After that, countermeasures so if we ever need to leave we have backup living spaces. Chances are somebody will conquer us eventually but my hope would be to remain independent as long as possible and hope nobody has enough interest in us to attack.
yeah. I'd look for my friends, teach them all the skills, stack up on villagers and autofarms so everything is renewable, and then just live out my days. If I was forced to fight someone, I'd probably beat them but not kill them. That's a little to bold for me.
@@projekttaku1 but there’s 7.8 billion people all spawned in different locations I think it would be very rare to even find someone who sounds and has the exact language of your friend
@@gamercentral2417 Well, I thought that the spawning would be in relation to where you are in the real world, so for example if you were 2 metres away from someone and you were trapped in minecraft, you'd be 2 blocks away. I feel like the divide between noob and veterans would go very differently than the veterans simply becoming a different nation. You need to keep in mind, in this scenario, everyone is there. The experienced players couldn't really afford to leave behind the noobs without abandoning their families, friends, etc. from the real world. I also feel like education would develop much more quickly, since there are already redstone experts like MumboJumbo out there, and there are probably at least a few thousand people with some degree of Redstone experience, who would be able to teach people the advanced game mechanics. It would be like if the stone ages started with a few people who could already create working cars and lightbulbs.
I feel like the veterans would shunned and even attack due to being connected with the game. They’d either have to become pillars of communities forced to carry the burden of supporting non players or end up leaving to form there own colonies. Non players would eventually learn and become jealous leading to wars and death
I would find other skilled players and band together.
@@MackingCheese99 ya I think that someone would still stay behind but I think most of the skilled players and gamers would probably all band together and popular Minecraft pvps or players would probably create a society together with other players and just let the rest die off and with them having so much knowledge of the game probably wouldn't be that scared of it and treat it like a normal Minecraft game and that would be scary in real life the players would probably start hunting down regular people who don't know about the game for fun and just see it as griefing and not make a big deal about it I'm talking about gang mentality type stuff

Imagine if they made diseases in Minecraft and you get them from villagers which can effect you and animals, and you have to drink a type of drink for the antidote
Thing is, due to villagers, almost no resource is finite. I doubt there would be much conflict since you can pretty easily get any resources with villagers and resource farms.Society would probably become very agrarian, with each person having their own farms. The only meeting places would probably be villager trading halls.
Except that there would barely be any villagers because non-players accidentally killed them in the first day. The few that remained would be controlled by some faction who would either rule everyone or get killed by them. Basically, villagers would just be the new resource.
@@rockin1014 but thanks to zombie villagers anyone with a dark room and 2 golden apples could spawn an entire village (get witches to apply the weakness effect so if you can't brew potions)
Minecraft would be incredbly easy to survive in. Even if there were 7 billion players, I would say at least half of that will die within the first 3 days.
After like 2 weeks there would probably only be actual Minecraft veterans alive, most of whom would not be in groups and would not be interested in taking risks.
It would be incredibly easy to just walk super far from 00 and just build a farm base underground. No one will ever find it since no one would have cheats.

If this would actually happen then we have to count mods into this as well. While yes, some of the mods like Aether Ice and Fire, and The Twilight Forest would probably not exist than doesn't mean that tech mods wouldn't exist. That opens a whole new category of people who are good at automating and creating machines. I think the people who would be the best at that are mod and modpack creators since mod creators literally created the mod. Modpack creators know how to make them better/worse
When you can conduct a survival experiment on societies without the ethical constraints, still limited due to it being a game however the basics are still there that would somewhat reflect how societies in real life develop.

There is one problem with your theory it wouldn't just be like sitting at a keyboard it would also depend on how active you are in real life so the thing about veterans like dream and techno is that they probably don't spend that much time outside would actually make them have a disadvantage because yes they would know more about it but they wouldn't be able to do the more physical activities and while you could argue that all minecraft players had a base strength and speed the player wouldn't be used to actually using the tools and weapons so only a small population could actually survive and even they would struggle so I think that a better analogy would be "What if everyone was forced to play minecraft all day".

It would be really interesting to see this with people who have never played Minecraft. Nobody would have the upper hand of knowledge or experience
A while ago, I thought about what a situation like this would mean for the world. After a lot of thinking, I thought of an idea that instead of everyone becoming Minecraft people, you would stay normal. You would have an inventory and HUD I think, and you would be able to punch trees and stuff, but you wouldn't be all blocky. This would change a lot, and would mean reproduction would be possible.

Netherite would be rare as fuck
Think about, not only is it limited but how many people would actually kill themselves just to get the ore?

Well pvpers are good at pvp in Minecraft on their PCs. But if they are trapped IN the Minecraft world then they would suck as pvp in Minecraft first person will just like be fighting in real life. But if everyone is trapped PLAYING Minecraft on their PCs, then yes, Techno, Dream and other Minecraft creators will be gods.

What bugs me is that I feel like there's this assumption that aspects of Minecraft are not intuitive, even for beginners. In this life, we have people whose jobs are to be farmers, and engineers. We have programmers. That's thousands of people who would pretty reasonably be able to draw on their life skills to start learning the game. Imagine the people from NASA and other space agencies working with redstone!
I also don't think all Minecraft veterans would band together like that. A good chunk of them will want to, sure, but given that people would be coming from established communities with friends and families, I think a lot more of them would want to stay and help the people they care about. If it's a truly random spawn in, than many people would go to great lengths to find the ones they love. I do agree that vets are more likely to become community leaders, especially early on, given their knowledge. But I think a lot of people are more than capable of catching up pretty quickly.
Therefore, I think the advantage vets would have overall wouldn't be so game changing, and if it were to be, it wouldn't be for that long. Aside from many Minecraft vets having to leave loved ones behind to make those Vet Only zerg groups... Humans have survived for centuries not because of brute strength, and intelligence is a major factor but not the only one because it will only get you so far... No, humans survived for so long because of kindness and compassion (hold your reeeing, lemme finish). If you search around, you can find articles on how remains from ancient humans have been found where things like broken legs have been healed. That means that, despite popular assumptions, our ancestors generally cared for sick and injured companions. A human with a broken leg like that would most likely die before the leg could heal. There's also been ancient remains of people that demonstrate significant disability who would not have been able to survive on their own.
That actually relates directly to the true meaning of "survival of the fittest". It's not about the strongest or smartest, it's about what are the best adaptations for a given environment. For humans, our natural super power is literally our insane pack bonding instinct. It's so strong, many of us keep other species of animals around as one of our own!
Now I'm not saying that "and that's why I believe Minecraft societies would be all peaceful uwu". War and conflict are innate parts of human nature, just as much as kindness is. But I do think overall, Minecraft veterans wouldn't be such distinct and powerful groups. Instead, they would be scattered all across different societies, leveling the playing field just a little bit more between people. Regardless of veterans though, I definitely see raiding groups forming and advancing to cause chaos with griefing and looting. Imagine demolitions experts getting their hands on some TNT... Beautifully destructive.
