  • The Coronation Choir.
    Zadok the Priest is one of Handel's Coronation anthems. One of Handel's best known works, Zadok the Priest has been sung prior to the anointing of the sovereign at the coronation of every British monarch since its composition and has become recognised as a British patriotic anthem. It was composed for the coronation of King George II in 1727.
    LYRICS:
    Zadok the Priest and Nathan the Prophet anointed Solomon King.
    And all the people rejoic'd, and said:
    "God save The King, long live The King, may The King live for ever!
    Amen, Hallelujah!"

      @@justonecornetto80 dude we’re interested in your history. We just can’t remove the American perspective so easily. 😂 I wasn’t mocking the Coronation in fact I’m glad it still happens as it is also a reminder of American history. Many old aspects of British life can be found within the cultural heartbeat of Americans. As much as we might not want to admit it. We would not have existed without the British empire’s world domination. In America most of our history lessons focus generally on Europe before the revolution. In fact I think I was taught more European history than American history. Nothing was really taught past ww2. Britain was always given a special focus in our culture as America did originate from it. I remember learning about princesses being real when OUR news stations were live streaming prince Williams’s wedding. Although for the most part Americans view it as curiosity. I knew several on this side of the pond who did experience sadness when the queen died. We still have royalist as well. Despite the revolution ending 200 years ago.
      In short I find the stability of the crown something the British should celebrate. Their is research that constitutional monarchies develop happier people on average when compared to republics. If one day the great American experiment, as it was once called, fails. Well… I would finish that thought but American pride is still American pride. I’ll try to sill. In a way maybe we could find ourselves more in line with our northern neighbor. Than we currently do today. Should all things truly, TRULY hit the fan

      @@em3000 The only "proof" we have, besides biblical accounts, of King David, and his son King Solomon, are the discoveries of some royal seals mentioning their names and some shards from approximately 967 BCE.. Assuming that King Solomon did exist, there are some modern "claimants" to his lineage -- The Ethiopian Royal Family, and several Jewish Hasidic Dynasties claim to be descended from King David or King Solomon. In reality, however, there is no way of telling who exactly is descended from this two Kings or Tribal Leaders of the past. However, we can be certain, looking at King Charles well documents genealogy from the past 500 years, he does not have any Jewish ancestors (none recorded), nor does he have any ancestors from the Ethiopian Royal Family. However, you can make an argument that the Jewish Rabbi, Dr. Jacob Snow, who circumcized King Charles as an infant (he did all the royals of a generation) is probably descended from whomever did the same with King David and King Solomon. That is as far as a connection you will get.

      The nice thing about a monarchy is that one's personal opinions don't count! You are rather required, by definition, to put up with whatever you get 😜
      There have, of course, been some horrors. Think George IV, for example. Strangely perhaps, the institution seems to be stronger than its exemplars. Of course, the occasional EIIR or GVIR help spruce the place up a bit!

    The music has such a sense of building anticipation to it. You feel like we’re really approaching a significant moment as it plays. And it pulls back a couple of times before going again to even greater highs, and of course then you get the epic explosion of the choir. This, paired with the Charles being divested of his finery, piece by piece, also has a sense of preparing for something, building to something. And of course we are - building to the anointing of a king. And the cherry on the cake is the very act of Charles humbling himself before god, which stirs the emotions alone. What a moment

    • @Anna_Key
      @Anna_Key ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@BiBoetzke it's an ancient ritual of the man chosen to be King, it used to be on a battlefield and the people who supported the King would bring an item of support, or gift, like gold, myrrh, stirrups, cloth, spurs, knowledge, spears, whatever was useful, so that at least one amongst many could represent the country fully kitted out and proudly show what the country was capable of. Same concept is if you have 20 Chieftains with 1,000 gold pieces, that's all each could spend. But pool the money into a common-wealth, then all of a sudden you've got 20,000 gold pieces and can trade for something really useful for the community.
      It's the opposite of flexing, greed, selfishness.
      Of course, in the wrong hands you could have a president like Ceasescu, Mugabe, Muammar Gaddafi, Marcos etc using the community common-wealth to buy their wife shoes!
      We need to be vigilant, but so far, so good.
