I Have a 2014 ram with air ride. I have replaced front and rear bags, pump and manifold, As soon as the temp drops to 35 it shows the message. I added air break Antifreeze. I added four caps to the pump air intake which is behind the right tail light. Remove the intake filter and add. It worked for me

After just traded in my 2017 GMC 1500 to 2021 Ram 1500 I feel sorry for the people who drives stone age 2014-2018 GM trucks or Fords. Mine was driving like a pile of crap over the road. Ram is like driving on clouds, with standard suspension and Laramie trim level

Now the new gen F-150 (2021+) is out..RAM may have a slightly better suspension still but the interior fit and finish even in an XLT sport 302 gets you 12” screen and everything is refined. Also MPG is better with 2.7/3.5 Ecoboost and maybe even the 5.0. That 5.7 RAM is horrible on gas. Does sound good thou

The air ride is amazing in the summer but it it atrocious in the winter. It just snowed heavily this morning and i wake up to my truck's air bags dropped all the way. Absolutely zero help from engineering to fix this issue and if you do end up "fixing" (which means an expensive replacement) anything, it just fails again and you have to spend even more money. I will be pulling out my air suspension and putting in the standard coil overs in.

I didn't even know the air suspension units could be replaced with coil overs. I'm assuming the coil overs are obviously aftermarket, right?

2019 big horn black appearance group e-torque 5.7L crew cab- 4x4 with 8.4" nav and 3.92 gears lvl2 tech . limited slip diff with about 9k miles and 1 year ownership in North Florida. I love this truck with 1 drawback. When using it as daily driver work to home, i'm unloaded, I think the amount of deceleration jolt when downshifting, which is one of the ways the truck sends power to etorque batteries(braking and downshift regen) is alittle too strong in these conditions in my opinion..It takes more effort for driver to slow down smoothly, if you apply 20% brake and e-torque bites a downshift at 20mph. 4th to 3rd, or 3rd to 2nd its kinda like dumping the clutch after putting it in 3rd on a 5 speed car while hitting the brakes. It definitely isn't as noticeable if towing or loaded down FYI. and probably why its set to where its at. But I think being the 3.92 and slightly lighter than higher end trims, I feel the most effect from it. I've heard the feeling is similiar to jake brake on semi. I personally can live with it. I'm knit picking it. Pros are I should get twice the life on my brake pads lol and when you don't need to blast a/c in the summer, you can save decent amount of fuel, with engine off where you would have been idling. smooths the shifts on acceleration nicely, and this thing moves for being around 5400lbs. It ROASTS the tires from a dig w/o traction control in 2wd if you stomp it, yet 100% traction in rain on a dirt road flooring it with 4wd auto on... crazy... E-torque mostly boosts distance you could go per tank with realworld stuff like stoplights and drive-thrus and helps the MPG # you see on dash by eliminating the idle MPG, which is 0mpg! Decided a loaded big horn was more practical than a limited.. I actually use this truck for truck shit and it performs and looks good doing it..

The air suspension is great when it works, but after 4 years, it begins to fail. When it fails, you have NO suspension and feel every bump. I would never buy this again, and am asking everyone with bad air suspension RAM trucks to file a complaint with NHTSA to let them know the depth of the problem. Maybe they will order a recall.

    • @JeremySchoeder

      A. Swap for coil springs. Cheap.
      B. Learn to service and maintain the system yourself.
      C. Pay the dealer to service your luxury suspension.
I went with B. The nitrogen, vacuum pump, and WiTech programmer cost about $300.
Brakes need maintenance, engines need maintenance, bearings need maintenance, tires need replacing. What made you think a luxury air suspension system wouldn't need maintenance? Quit your whining.

Cheyenne Obregon my 2007 Chevy avalanche has air suspension ride. My rear shocks wouldn’t stay aired up. I removed the shocks and the air pump. I got to farting around with the air lines and the o-rings. Come to find out the o-rings were not cooperating with normal applications. So I found some tiny o-rings and put those one the line too.
Long story shortened when I installed the o-rings I was able to push on the o-ring I put on and use it to go deeper in the hole and I have not had another problem with it.

Is a great truck but those suspension test @5:20 are good and necessary but it is not the same like real life, I mean the distance test are good but all machine that run the whole time are always greater the one that stays from time to time. So I drive Offroad come home and use for 2weeks my smaller everyday car, during this time stuff on the truck can react.... you know what I mean. Those simulation never can reproduce real life. But the truck is great

Just to add more pressure, I've also had big problems with my air suspension on my 2015 Rebel. At first it was only doing it in winter but now I'm starting to get the "Immediate pneumatic maintenance required" warning soon followed by empty bags even in summer. How the hell am I suppose to tow my vacation trailer with air suspension failing on me randomly?
    This is unacceptable!

I think air ride is a good idea. Semi trucks use it all the time. Ram just doesn't have it figured out yet... You know these guys are full of crap if you pay attention too. For instance, how could their special load simulator really shake a truck down as though it was on the road? There are no temperature variations, which is a serious problem if you are trying to tune an air ride system or shocks, both of which are going to change their characteristics when the viscosity and / or density of the fluids that they use to carry a load or dampen vibration change due to temperature. Plus, if you are trying to shake down a new frame made out of a new kind of steel, it is probably smart to see if it 1) becomes brittle in the cold (it does, the real question is how much), and 2) whether some other part of the truck is going to open up a slight clearance due to thermal contraction and start impact loading something else.
The other thing that comes to mind immediately is that there is no lateral loading on the truck's suspension in their fancy simulator. Without some amount of lateral G-force loading, as in an actual corner, there is no way to really know if things are going to wear or hold stable. And there is no way to evaluate some basic stuff, like what the camber curves are going to do around a corner as things start to wear and loosen up, or whether the sway-bars are going to control body roll. They could perhaps remedy this by mounting the whole test mechanism in a frame, and rotating the whole mess partially sideways as it runs. But obviously, they aren't worried about it.
Two parting shots: 1) They sure are proud of their upper control arm, which contains "structural plastic." I don't trust plastic in the cold, don't trust it not to cause the metal around it to corrode by wicking in moisture, and don't like the idea that the first time someone puts a torch on an upper ball joint to try to get it separated from the aluminum spindle, it's going to melt a structural part of the upper control arm. 2) Look at that piece of junk running on their test machine - the bumper looks like it's going to shake off, and gap between the bed and cab is all over the place. Maybe that's just their hydraulic cab mounts giving a little extra suspension to the cab. Hell, maybe it's even a good thing, because the chassis is remaining very rigid and holding the bumpers and bed tight, while the cab floats a little bit. But I would sure want to explain that on my video if that's what is really going on. Since they didn't mention it, I'm guessing their new truck is just so sloppy and loose that they couldn't edit it out of their own promotional video.

I HAVE A 1993 LINCOLN TOWN CAR WITH 65K AND IT HAS THE ORIGINAL REAR AIR BAGS AND AIR COMPRESSOR WITH NO ISSUES WHATSOEVER !
I HAVE A 1998 LINCOLN MARK VIII WITH 146K AND IT JUST STARTED HAVING SUSPENSION AIR LOSS ISSUES AFTER SITTING A DAY OR SO. I HAVE 2 NEW AIR BAGS FOR THE REAR THAT COST ME $80 AND A NEW COMPRESSOR THAT COST ME $67-YES $67 !!! AND 2 NEW FRONT AIR STRUTS THAT COST $250 !!! GONNA INSTALL THEM IN THE SPRING AND SHOULD BE GOOD FOR AWHILE !!!
I HAVE A NEW 2019 BIGHORN CREW 4X4 I BOUGHT IN JULY 2019 WITH THE SPRING SUSPENSION AND I'M GLAD IT DOESN'T HAVE AIR RIDE !
MY POINT IS THAT AUTOMAKERS HAVE BEEN DOING AIR SUSPENSION FOR DECADES...WHY DOES SOME OLDER VEHICLES STILL HAVE THEIRS FUNCTIONING, YET A 2 YEAR OLD TRUCK WITH THE LATEST TECHNOLOGY CAN'T ??? PRETTY SHITTY IF YOU ASK ME !
FCA SHOULD REMEDY THIS ISSUE, ALONG WITH THE MALFUNCTIONING 12" INFOTAINMENT ISSUES I READ CONSTANTLY ABOUT !!!

I had a 2015 Outdoorsman with Air and live in western Quebec. I loved the air ride so much, that I got it with my new 2019 Rebel again.
It's really not uncommon for us to have -30 Celcius here - in fact it's been a steady -25 Celcius for the last 3 days and expected to stay the same for the next few days... I have heard of some people having issues with the first generation of the Air Susp. but I never had an issue - where are the statistics regarding "high failure"?. Every manufacturer has it's share of weaknesses - no vehicle is perfect. My 2017 GMC Sierra was a complete dud where the transmission always kicked like a mule.
I can tell you with certainty, that the new air suspension for the 2019 has improved. It is faster for up and down, and it is stiffer than the previous generations.
I really love my new RAM - what was a good truck, is now a fantastic truck.

It's typical physics that the compressor running seals that are made out of plastic will have some memory effect if they are cooled down. It needs some running time to temper all the way, than for sure internal leakage will reduce a lot and efficiency will rise. No matter what system you will buy on the market, this will almost be unavoidable.

I have owned a lot of rams. Current ride is 2016 rebel. The air suspension is absolutely junk. Never by one. Owners all over Canada and USA getting screwed. One guy in Canada went to dealer. For 3 rd time to get this shit system worked on. They couldn’t fit him in. 12 others ahead of him with air suspension issues. Calls FAC. They say “ sorry we are not aware of any air suspension problems “
This is not he same company since FAC bought it. They are crooks. Never buy from them. I have owned a lot of dodge 1/2 tons. 3 new 3 used. This is my last one. Never buy a ram with air suspension NEVER.

All 1st generation of new technologies will have problems , series 2 better then series 3. I have found..by 2021 the air suspension should be wonderful by then , once they iron out the kinks. No matter what brand , the early addaptors are bata testers...even plasma tv's were plagued with problems when they were 1st released. You only need look at tesla problems to know what I mean. This is why I rather the last of the old model , than the first of the new one. • @ALTenniscourt

+1 on Schoeder's comment. Also, air ride has been the predominant suspension in semi-trucks for fifty years or so. Firestone, and some other companies have made air ride conversions for medium and light pickups for years that work reliably; Audi builds air-ride cars that run great for years before they start to have problems (although admittedly, at that point, they become really hard to fix and maintain); and even Chevy managed to figure out a pretty good system for the rear of their top-end Suburbans (if you can keep the compressors from rusting out). I don't know if Ram is going with cheap parts, or whether their testing/quality control/engineering is bad, or all of the above. But there is no reason they can't make a reliable air suspension in 2019. The technology is very simple, and has been ironed out for years.
