- Director of Testing Dan Edmunds, Staff Writer Travis Langness and Special Correspondent Elana Scherr put America's top-selling vehicles through the ringer. We test the Chevrolet Silverado, Ford F-150 and Ram 1500 at the track, break down the differences between the interiors and even load an ATV into each truck's bed. We drove them in the city, drove them on the highway, towed a big Airstream trailer, and spent hundreds of miles behind the wheel of all three trucks to see which one comes out on top. Will the top-rated Ram 1500, the best-selling Ford F-150, or will the all-new Chevy Silverado be the new champ?
Q: What's under the hood?
A: The Ram 1500 we used for this test has a 5.7-liter V8 (395 horsepower, 410 lb-ft of torque). The F-150 we tested had Ford's 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 (375 hp, 470 lb-ft). The Chevy Silverado in our test came with the 5.3-liter V8 (355 hp, 383 lb-ft).
Q: Which truck is the quickest to 60 mph?
A: Of the three trucks we tested, the Ford F-150 was the quickest. It did the 0-60 mph sprint in just 6.2 seconds. The Ram 1500 was second with a time of 6.5 seconds, while the Silverado came in at 7.0 seconds. Notably, the Silverado was equipped with the 5.3-liter V8 rather than the range-topping 6.2-liter engine. In previous tests, a last-gen Silverado with the 6.2-liter was capable of hitting 60 mph in 6.4 seconds.
Q: Which one is the best truck? The Silverado, the Ram or the F-150?
A: In our test, we found that the Ram edged out the F-150 and the Silverado in almost every category. The interior quality, powertrain and comfort were all excellent. The Silverado and the F-150 still have a lot going for them, but if it were our money, we'd pick the Ram.

Small mirrors on a full size truck is dumb. I work in forestry and the GMC Z71 "off road" truck is the biggest piece junk I've ever driven. The ergonomics are shit along with horrible line of sights and the cab space is shit. By far the worst "full size" truck I've ever driven off road. I've driven a Ford off road and GMC's cannot hold a candle to the ford.

John barfneck They aren’t paying most people they just have the best truck the only other truck that might be better than the Ram is the GMC Sierra Denali. Overall the Ram just makes the best truck now and entry truck so these reviewers aren’t crazy for liking it more than others. There is no point in making excuses for the others and I am very unbiased when it comes to trucks.
Joel Repass I agree with you for sure. I know people that went to a Ram from Chevy and from Ford and have absolutely loved them. And the tranny issues that people had brought up were from the early 2000-ish models and after that they redesigned the transmissions. I have a 16 Silverado and it’s not really that impressive. Laggy acceleration especially from a dead stop, squeaking from a valve in the exhaust pipe every time it goes from V4 to V8. Rotate the tires and have to get them rebalanced and re-aligned or else you will be walking and shaking down the road. Interior rattles a bit. It’s got apple CarPlay which is cool and handy especially since handsfree is being adopted by most states. But other than that, interior finishes seem ok and plain. I’ve driven plenty of fords and rams and Chevys. Chevys are NOT what they used to be. Ford has one of the best engineering departments and so does dodge. Being as unbiased as possible, Chevy is falling behind and all these people that are loyal to one or the other are living in an era that doesn’t exist any more. Id be willing to go ford or dodge for my next truck.

What you say makes zero sense. All of the trucks tested are safer, get better fuel economy, tow and haul more than any of their predecessors regardless of brand. One of them(the Ram) also rides smoother, quieter and has a higher reliability record since 2009 than any other brand. It also has the highest resale value since 2009. Are you not looking for these characteristics in your truck?

Yup, i agree, i am a carpenter/builder, these reviews tell us nothing about reliability, ect. Useless except for those who live in the burbs and drive these empty to work everyday. How about looking at how well the four wheel drive system works in bad conditions, weather.

I was always a Chevy man, and 2 days ago I bought an F-150. I loved it the second I mashed that accelerator down, The ecoboost is something special. The Chevy just made it to difficult to option out the truck without having to spend a fortune. You can get an F-150 base model XL with the STX package and almost all the new modern features you'd want, And it has the best appearance of all the F-150's in my opinion. No chrome, everything color matched to the body, and nice 20 inch wheels. Didn't even have to rob a bank. The Ram was a close contender, but I test drove 3 of them, and all of them had horrible a/c. It just wouldn't get cold enough. After ten minutes in the Chevy and the Ford I had to turn the a/c to low, The Ram I would've had to keep it high forever I think. And living in Florida a/c quickly becomes a top priority.

Absolutely blown away by my 19 Ram. Amazing truck.
The 2019 Ram's quality control is awful. AC barely works most of the time, the Limited badge fell off the dash, the speaker grills in the door started rattling after a couple weeks and the brakes are squealing for some reason. Even the leather is coming unclipped from the seat. Oh and the 12" screen works okay sometimes but there are way too many bugs with it. Not impressed so far.

My AC works perfectly normal, i did not want the new 12" screen because its obvious that was going to have its bugs. Sorry about the rattles. I agree your truck is ridiculous for what you pay, but after owning 3 GM k2xx trucks and going through lemon law with one and owning a 17 Ram, my 19 is head and shoulders above them all and does not have a single squeek or rattle in the 2400 miles I have on it so far. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

Short bed for great turning radius, White, tinted the front windows, put in AMP Reasuch electric running boards. What a ride, now Fords look like old tanks to me. Lol my truck looks hot! Open the doors at night and running boards come down lit up!

Well, I don't trust Dodge quality more than I can throw one and I don't like GM's fuel management system. Only one I would really be happy with is the F150 but I'd have to permanently disable that stop/start crap the first chance I got.

I currently own 2017 F250 6.7 diesel and I used to own two F150s with 3.5 EcoBoost. All the trucks you tasted are similar and that is good for buyers. I agree that the Ram 1500 has an impressive interior. I like the look of Silverado's profile, it is nicely shaped. The current F150 has the best engine and transmission. It is so fast and fun to drive! You guys are in car business and seem to know nothing about cars and trucks! You probably read little bit about these three trucks before you made this video but overall it was horrible review and you all looked unprofessional!

I'll never understand how a power tail gate is a plus. I like closing my tail gate, something truck like about it.
More than that, it takes forever for it to open and close itself. I would lose patience since I could open and close it like the three times in the time it takes to do it once by itself

Drove all 3 and bought the Chevy, it felt sportier, more fun to drive, and I love the new front end! Reminds me a lot of the Camaro. The others just look like same old trucks they have had for 10 years with a new grill....just my thoughts.

I wish they'd do a 10 year review, and discuss which brand has the most recalls and TSB's....I have a feeling their first place choice wouldn't hold up to that kind of scrutiny.
Ram has actually had less recalls than both trucks. I have owned mine for 6 years and it has only had a few recalls. They are down on Recalls and Ford is up.
@@joelrepass2379 give it time; FCA will have more recalls. Their 2500/3500 trucks have an ever-expanding list of recalls and TSB's.
Regardless, FCA has always ranked low for reliability.
Ford and Ram already have more recalls than the silverado... way more.

Well, we just got a 2019 Ram 1500 and it is totally amazing! The Harmon Kardan stereo is amazing, 19 speakers and an equalizer! I love that it has a CD player as well as taking a memory stick because I really missed having a CD player in my 2013 Ram Big Horn. Plus the inside is like a luxury car, the leather seats (in black) are gorgeous. The dashboard is perfect, it's actually better than some luxury SUV's I've seen such as a Range Rover. The 12 inch screen is amazing. The air suspension feature is a dream, that is, it rides like a dream. We didn't get the Limited but we got the 1500 with many of the features of the Limited, it has a bit less chrome on the front around the headlights (on the top only, not underneath) but still looks really nice. We did not get the panoramic sunroof as I had quite a few cars with sunroofs in them and rarely used them and to me the sunroof is just too big on this truck imo. I really love, love, love the 5.7 Liter Hemi engine, it sounds fantastic when you rev the engine. Love the dual exhaust. We paid about $59,000 but got a little over $21,000 off for a trade in for a 2013 Ram and we got another $4,500 off. So it was a good deal. We got it in Billet Silver metallic paint. I do like the black and the darker gray colors as well. We also considered it in red but decided against red. I do not like the color white on a truck such as the truck shown in this video.
As far as the engine is concerned the only Ford Truck we ever owned was our 2000 Ford Eddie Bauer Expedition which has a similar sized engine, a 5.4 Liter Triton V8. That was the top of the line for that model year. We still own that truck and gifted it to my son as he needs it in wintertime to get to work when it snows out, it's so high up it goes through deep snow. The Ford is still going strong and was a real bargain at $33,000 brand new off of the lot back in 2000!!

The Ram is a great LOOKING truck, no doubt. The interior is amazing for a truck and I think the exterior is the best looking. But they are notorious pieces of trash. These guys said they like the transmission, but it's been nothing but trouble for many Ram owners. Rams are the kind of trucks you get and then give back to the dealer for a new version before they hit 100k miles.
Ram is the most modern because the designers & engineer's think out side the box. Ford,Chevy are very good also. And look how far ram history took them. Ram was the first truck that came out with 4x4,diesel, interior with real wood & swaye leather. And more.

Face it they did just as bad with that ram as Chevy did with its same interior as 2014-2018 interior. Proud owner of 2018 ford f150 2.7L EcoBoost. Tried all three truck on test drive. Loved the Ford the most. Even few MPG feels like on papers but have big impact in real life. Yup interior. Just turned my cloth seats into dark orange leather seats front heated. SYNC THREE best and easy to connect. I start my truck from my ford app on phone and check all the info about my truck right on my palm. FORD IS PRACTICAL.

The Ram interior was light and very modern looking. I suspect allot of issues with that huge infotainment system/screen. But it did look the best IMO. That's why I bought a 2019 F150 5.0! lol

Ford's XLT/Lariat interior sucks dude. Especially when the dash warps and the door of the glovebox is all distorted from heat in the summer. Too many cheap plastics.

I drove all three and bought the Silverado rst duramax. Love the front end styling and it was best handling of the three. I know styling is subjective but the other two look like trucks older guys would drive. The straight six diesel is amazing. Tons of torque and 30 mpg regularly on the highway.

I agree. The ram only won because it was paid for by dodge. They took the top of the line dodge to compare to mid level Chevy and ford. But it’s funny that the v6 ford is better at towing but they barely made mention of it.

It's the most improved truck, since GM didn't do anything to make their new trucks any better than the old ones, the F-150's only real challenger is the Ram, and it's now better.
But not to worry, there will be a new F-150 released next year or two years later, and it has a chance of becoming number one again.

@@marcharris2734 the Ram lasts a long time. I'm saying this because my dad had two of them in the past, and they had zero problems at over 200k miles. They were 2003 and 2008 models to be precise. The 08 was a 2500 and the 03 was a 1500.
All those people who say that Ram trucks are unreliable are either Ford or Chevy lovers. Even I thought they were unreliable, but after experiencing two of them (that were abused by the previous owners), I can safely say that they are pretty darn solid. Especially with that 5.7L Hemi V8.
I also love the F-150, but only with the Naturally aspirated engines. None of that turbo crap.

I don't get people complaining about the GM interior. It's certainly much more appealing than the cramped and dated Ford interior. I just spent 2-3 months deciding on what to replace my 2003 Ram with, and the GMC Sierra won my vote and my money. The new Ram has lots of bells and whistles, and is a pleasure to drive, but the new GMC was more FUN to drive. My old daily driver was a Mazda, and since my new truck is also replacing that, I didn't want to give up my Zoom-Zoom. In the GMC, I got the best of both worlds. It's a real truck that can do real truck things ... like haul a lot more in the bed than the Ram, that also goes like a banshee when I step on the gas and corners like a hatchback. Plus it actually gets decent MPG, unlike the Ram. If you are big guy like me (6'5" / 250) then I don't know how you can get comfortable in the Ford ... I certainly couldn't. The GMC has much nicer finish inside than the Chevy, and looks a thousand percent nicer on the outside. So it came down to GMC or Ram, and the Ram was nice, sure, but I gotta be able to pass slow traffic on my way to work, I really liked the larger bed capacity/dimensions/lighting/utility (apples-to-apples), and honestly, I liked style. The wife's last two cars have been Fords, and she would have picked the Ram, FWIW, but she's not driving it every day. :) GMC wins this round at our house.

Hunter Basselite Chev breaks down all the time, way less reliable than Ram or Ford. Haven’t owned my Ram long but it’s been solid so far. Definitely the best looking truck, and smoothest ride. Owned fords for the past 10 years, always been quite reliable.
The Odinson I have a Ford now 2017 5.0 f150 ... I’m talking facts here , CHEVY TRUCKS , are more reliable than ford and dodge .. I’ve had dodge/ram(Fiat) and they’ve always been cheaply made and trash trash trash transmission , I actually traded my 18 ram in for a 2017 f150 , I’m just saying facts , OVERALL ram(fiat) is your LEAST reliable gas trucks .. and gmc/Chevy is your MOST reliable truck and this is facts .. google it if you may but its facts .. 2020 Limited Blacked Out fully loaded in my driveway...$72k ! Hauling shit for 12hr straight drives is pleasurable and quite fun actually. The 18 speaker sound system is insanely good. Oh, I can also get a mani pedi and not worry;))

@@hochhaul the H.O. 3.5 is new for 2019 limited and easily the most powerful engine in class. The regular 3.5 which is comparable to the 6.2 for 2nd most powerful engine can be had in the base xl trim if you want which is why people don't get why they limit the 6.2 to top trims when some workers might want it in there truck.

@@daironhorse GM limits the 6.2 to the LTZ trim. It's a trim that doesn't break the bank. For the last 3 or 4 years, you could easily find brand new LTZ trucks marked down to $39k. To say that it's a dealbreaker because you can't get the 6.2 in a WT but you can get the 3.5eb in an XL is a bitch argument. NOBODY buys a WT trim truck as a daily driver. And Ford is the one that's desperately reliant on fleet sales as part of their business model.
All I can say is Ram is surpassing the other trucks in almost every way since 2010. No one will ever build a truck to outsell the F150 period, but the new Rams are definitely better. I get why people hate though. Pre-2010 the only good thing Dodge had in a truck was a Cummins motor. Those problems are gone now. Ram is close to catching the number two spot in sales ahead of Chevy.
Having worked at several different dealers (service, collision), you have to keep in mind what your repair costs for all this added features will be. On the Ford, turbos aren't cheap to replace, the giant screen in the Dodge has to be proprietary and cost at least 2k. GM is known for electrical issues down the road a few years. The softer the interior in a truck you "use as a truck",the more wear it will show (see F series king ranch). Fuel mileage is important if you are more than a "weekend warrior". You will pay over time for that. I like Ford, but too many parts to break over time. Too many weak points. Chevy doesn't hold value well, and that interior is neither functional, or livable over time. Ram has a nice interior, but how long will it last with use. Toyota Tundra has earned a spot in this race, yet was left out. Resale and durability are Toyota hallmarks. Proven. If you wanted one of the reviewed trucks, you could go with Ram. Just don't be disappointed if the next year's model is better. Ram is moving faster than GM or Ford to innovative. E-torque for example. But, repair cost post warranty... Good luck shopping. They are all free to test drive.

@@George-on3zm Well, it's not so new any more. It has 18k miles on it, but I couldn't be happier with this Ram Limited. It absolutely rides and drives like a dream. Everybody that rides in it comments on how luxurious and comfortable it is. It's like having a luxury car I can haul plywood in!
So driving impressions in order from least amount of time to greatest: Chevy= 1min 45 sec, Dodge= 2 min 20 sec and Ford = 3 min 40 sec! I agree with the interior of the Chevy being a let down, especially compared to the Dodge, but it is better than the "toyish" Ford interior! This Comparo from beginning most definitely favors the Ram! I will drive all 3 and judge for myself, maybe this IS accurate, but it looked biased from the get go! As a side note the Chevy should have had the 6.2, the other 2 have the top offering engines( Ram's by default) and the Chevy is mid pack! ( 5.3- 2.7 Eco boost or 5.0L) are closer to each other! 3.5 eco boost 6.2L and if Ram would offer the 6.4L from the Heavy Duty, would be the real comparison! Can't wait to see all 3 with the 6cylinder diesels Comparo!!

I like that all of these trucks have really stepped up their game and left the Toyota in the dust. When I was shopping for a new truck the Tundra was the first one to get cut.
The F150, when you consider its 4 years older than the other two, is pretty remarkable to finis 2nd. The only thing the Ram has on it is the interior.
And the suspension and the steering.
Sean Smith ...What is remarkable though is that its 4 years old and the F150 still has the best fuel efficiency, towing capacity, acceleration,handling and braking.. even toss in the 6.2L in the well equipped LTZ and the 3.5L ecoboost will still beat it by .2 seconds to 60. The Ram does have the nicer interior imo, but they’re still using a 10 year old power plant. I hate to say it but Ford is years ahead of GM and Ram.
@@lens1016 are you sure about that? I haven't seen any numbers for the 2019 silverado 6.2. I know that Chevy has the best out of box towing even with the 5.3, also resale value. Chevy has the best resale of any of these trucks, and reliability. It also ages better than the other 2. I've worked with all of these for the last 4 years.
Sean Smith I’ve only ever leased them but the Chevy does get about $900 more than an F150 after 5 years according to KBB. Not life changing money for those who can afford to drive $50k trucks though. Admittedly I don’t need a truck for work so I can’t speak about how they handle heavy duty tasks other than to know it can pull a 19’ boat with no issues and that most companies who do, equip their fleet with F150s more than any other brand. We also know MPG is always lower than advertised on every vehicle-even my Honda Civic. When disciplined and carrying no load, using Eco mode on my 2018 3.5EB I can wrangle 23MPG out of it on my commute to work. No joke. I barely exceed the speed limit and it’s miserable for me to drive that way, but it can be done. I just drove round trip to Chicago and it got over 19 MPG traveling 80-90mph for the majority of the trip. No way the Chevy or Ram matches that with a V8. When I got my first truck ever in 2015 because I bought a boat, with no brand loyalty whatsoever I test drove them all including a Tundra...and within the trim levels I was considering, the F150 2.7 EB was the most fun to drive and the most “car like” of the bunch. At the time the Chevy was my least favorite because the 5.3 was slow, the steering unlively, and the ride was unrefined. In 2018 when the lease was up, I tried the new Ram out first and liked very much the ride and 12.3 inch screen, but it was not nearly as fun to drive and still $300/mo more. The Chevy wasn’t available yet but I wanted to try it out as well-I just couldn’t. So here I am with another, a bit nicer F150 than before and this comparison video combined with personal experience makes me feel like I’ve made the right choice. It’s just hard to knock 4 year old technology that is outperforming it’s competitors brand new models in nearly every regard.

And having that Ford emblem on the front end help's too. I have driven Ford truck's at my job since 1992. If I was in the market for a truck, Ram all the way, but Ford is easily my second choice. I have no desire to waste my hard earned pay on anything GM.

Timex outsells Rolex because of price. The two trucks are comparable in price. So that idea is moot in my opinion. I don't base my opinion of trucks solely on numbers. I have almost 40 years of driving, working out of and observing trucks and I am a mechanic by trade.. The Toyota's are not superior. I have six brothers, one of whom is a Toyota fan. He has a 1998 Tacoma and he had to replace his engine at 200,000 miles. He also has a Tundra that he tried pulling a fifth wheel camper with. That didn't work. It also gets poor mileage. Another brother of mine has a 94 Ranger with 300,000 miles and has had one timing belt. I have a 2017 diesel F250 that is awesome. I also have a 1966 F100 that is solid as a rock.I have a co-worker with a 2017 Tacoma and his blower motor quit and it's leaking oil from the rear differential pinion seal.Both are recall items. I could go on for days,, I'm not saying Toyota's are not good, I'm saying they are not superior and they are a Japanese company. I try to buy American as much as I can @guy proulx

I enjoyed this comparison and learned some about trucks. It was a good a balanced panel of judges with a woman to see what fits their needs.
I didn't like that the F150 was the only one with actual tow mirrors and was criticized for having them. Some points were very fair and I agree with the testers on, and others, like the mirrors, I can't help but wonder how out of touch all 3 testers are. Most people that tow would rather have the tow mirrors. Hell, the aftermarket for tow mirrors is HUGE.
I agree. Ford got points from me on the tow mirrors. Obviously none of the testers ever towed anything in their life in traffic. I will not buy a truck that does not have tow mirrors.

@TheSushiraw airshocks do help. Plus more expensive . You get what you pay for. I paid 10k less for my Chevy and ride comfortably.
I own all 3 and I prefer driving the Ram. The Ram rides and drives so much better. He was right in the video that the steering on the Ram is amazing. The Ram also rides super smooth.
The Ford is second in drivability, in my opinion.
The Chevy (mine is GMC) doesn't have the same power/balls as the other 2 when towing my boat or passing in traffic.
The Ram is also by far the easiest to park. RAM is also the most comfortable to sit in. All mine have leather.

I’m a F150 guy, but I own a Ram 1500. It had the best year end clearance deal of all the dealerships. The best truck for me, is one that I can afford.

I agree they talked about different engines on the ram but not on the chev or ford. They talk about the options on the trucks like what the dealer gave them was all you can get.
F150 is also the oldest
With a 6.5' box you need blocks under the quads front tires. Thats the trick to fitting it in the back. For me 3 2x6's stacked work. I can fit 2 Crf250l's in the box of my F150's 6.5' box, used to fit my TRX500 foreman rubicon in there too, with the tailgate closed and locked.
Or just get an extended cab instead of a quad cab and you can fit most riding mowers and most atv's, that big door takes up a lot of room if you have that big a family just get a SUV and tow a trailer behind it is what id do
