    Glad you posted this, we've been considering Maaco on our 2007 9-3, and want something comparable longevity wise for the price. We have massive clear coat failure on the hood, roof, and deck lid due to Texas weather, so it's looking pretty rough a the moment.

    I have a grey 2011 Saab 9-5. I live in AZ too and the sun just faded the pain on the hood, roof and trunk. Bought some base coat pain and clear, sanded it and painted it myself. Because the sun takes a beating to the paint, there is a color difference from the original but at least the clear is no longer peeling

    Phew, those west coast prices are nuts. Maaco has worked well for me, I'm not paying 3-5 grand elsewhere.

    Get it prepped/polished and spray some ceramic coating on it. Adam's sells one for about $54 that lasts about a year. Easy to apply and looks great while protecting the paint job.

    Your very lucky. We have had 4 cars painted by Macco over the years and every one faded in about 2 years or 3 and they were washed and waxed regularly. My friends lincoln faded in only 1 year. My dad had his prize el camino repainted after the first Macco job faded. 2 weeks later he got it back, he was furious because those idiots matched the faded color. Have you ever seen a new paint job thats faded looking. Neither have I until then. I bought a 2000 Corvette a couple months ago painted Magnetic red (the darker red) and I just found out they just had it painted at Macco. I wanted to cry. I saved for 10 years to buy it. I guess I have 2 years to save for a repaint. By the way the long time manager in C C Tex. once told me they had only painted 2 cars with the urethane paint and after that they just used cheap synthetic enamel on everything because no one can tell the difference when its new. And they don't use clear coat. It was the early 2000's at $30 a gallon. And they paint a couple of cars with that because they put it on thin. I can see through it on the passenger side of the car. There were a number of runs on the back that they wiped off but never went back and painted. I had several friends who had paint pealing off because they didn't sand places. Their price is expensive, their just cheaper than real paint shops. Normally you use them when your selling an ugly car.

      The manager of that particular shop seems like a scumbag. The one I work at we understand that these paint jobs are cheap, but we still take care to make sure we don't have to re-do it anytime soon.

    I have a 2004 Toyota Tacoma that I had Maaco paint 5.5 years ago. About 2 years ago it started showing rough areas on top of the canopy, cab and hood. Over time these rough areas have collected much dirt and pollen, and when I tried to scrub them off they stay. I was told by a detailing shop that it was not fixable by them, that it was the clear coat disintegrating. Well that sucks. Before my truck was repainted it looked fine, no clear coat coming off, and right after and for several years it looked amazing. But now, it's not good and I'm quite annoyed. They shop said I'd need to repaint the top!

    • @AutoAutopsy
      @AutoAutopsy  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      does the car get parked outside? what "level" of paint did you get from Maaco?

    • @jeffmeyer9319
      @jeffmeyer9319 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@AutoAutopsy Yes it's parked in a shady area, and there's a large cherry in the park next to it. It's in Seattle so it's pretty soggy. The guy who told me it wasn't fixable without repainting thought that maybe the cherry seeds left on the car did the damage, but I parked in that same spot for 5 years before the new paint job without any damage. I paid 1099 for the base price 5.5 years ago, and that gave a 5 year warranty. They added extra for the canopy and since it was a truck. I paid 2200 total for paint and emblems and pin striping.

  • @steadyeddie7453
    @steadyeddie7453 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Longevity is a big question with their paint jobs. From what I have read and heard the paint and additives are doled out and mixed by a computer based on the vehicle size, so the painter is given bare minimum amount of paint, which means it's one thin coat and done. Fortunately the Urethane and I/C option has a hardener added so it's Maaco's way of offsetting the thin coat of paint and still lasting through the warranty.

    • @AutoAutopsy
      @AutoAutopsy  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      definitely. I always keep this garaged to avoid the AZ sun from eating it. It's now about 3.5 years and still looks good

    • @steadyeddie7453
      @steadyeddie7453 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@AutoAutopsy You are fortunate that you can park it in a garage, out of the sun and elements. Unfortunately some of us park our vehicles outside, so they are attacked by the suns's UV rays, the acid rain, pollen, bird droppings, etc. That's the car I want to see after a few years.

    • @mwest78734
      @mwest78734 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      That is false. There is an adequate quantity of paint applied. Also, all of their paints have hardeners or they would not be able to paint so many cars each day. The problem with production paint shops is they have to move the vehicles very quickly since the prices are really low. It would be unreasonable to expect them to charge these prices and yet spend hours in preparation, parts removal and re-installation and intensively detailed masking with the costs of labor and materials.

    • @steadyeddie7453
      @steadyeddie7453 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@mwest78734An "adequate" quantity would mean just enough paint to cover the vehicle. Your word, not mine. I never said I expected these paint shops to spend hours prepping the vehicles. I simply stated that you can get better results if you remove as many parts as possible so there is less to mask off.

    I wanted to get the 600$ job done I seen prices even at 400$ but when I called the maacos in Albuquerque they acted like assholes on the phone and said theirs no such thing even though I said maacos website says different and told me I wouldn’t get a damn thing done unless I paid at least 1000$ and said that’s their cheapest job and where implying they where gonna not care and do a bad job if I didn’t spend more. I’m frustrated cause I was counting on this paint job to fix up a second car I bought. Can anyone help me please and explain more how prices work with these guys ?

      If you think that's quite a bit of orange peel you should have seen mine after getting it back. His looks like a car sitting in the concourse lawn vs mine. I had terrible orange-peel and specks all over every single panel on my car. I wasn't happy, I spent more than he did on the base/clear and got worse results. It's a crap shoot what you are going to end up with.

      Based on what he said on the video, he had the middle level. I just did the same and it turned out pretty good. I am wondering, though, if the car can be washed at all in an automated car wash... Or will it damage the paint?

    • @maddogrussesquivias967
      @maddogrussesquivias967 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@flavellinator I run a auto detailing co and yes you can run it through an automatic car wash but of course the abrasive pounding from the scrubbers will wear out the paint more and more over time, the machine scrubbers micro scratch the paint and add those nasty swirl marks and I always recommend that my customers hand wash their vehicles and gently dry. I thought that Maaco's single stage paint jobs only included base coat and not clear coat as well. Maybe the young man in the video did get a different mid level paint job and just said the wrong "name of paint job" because single stage paint jobs are traditionally known to only include that one single stage of base coat, clear would not be mixed together in the paint hopper with base it would be a completely separate step ( aka 2 stage paint job).
