@@bernkombe2019 key was an un programmed one. New. In order to program a used key, if possible, all current keys would need to be erased from the car computer I believe.

The spare was from another Lexus that the person I bought from had refurbished back to new standards. I just had to make sure the identification numbers on the key matched the ID numbers on my particular vehicle. Then I bought the USB programming cable and software for $17 and did it:)

It works! I got the key Fob from Car and Truck Remotes. I bought the 2018 Tacoma Fob. It was the same part number as the 2019 smart key Tacoma Fob. I bought the cable and software on Amazon and loaded it onto an old windows10 PC. I just programmed my first Fob. Cool.

The video should include the software installation process too. I bought the cable from Amazon and there is a CD in the box, but no document or instruction on how to install the program and every time I ran Techstream it asked for New Key to register and there is no key#. I found out that Patch file on the CD is the one to run to avoid the registration key.
Just want to thank you DIY-time for the detail instructions. His instructions still work. I have 3rd Prius and I lost my spare key. I purchased a replacement from online Toyota dealer with discount. Using Techstream program which came with OBDII cable, I could program my new key just as what the instructions was shown. So, it still works. However, to make the cable works, you need to follow the instructions came from CD exactly. You will need to copy included files to specific folder and install MVCI drivers from the CD. Those steps are very crucial. Local dealer charges way too much for key fob and programming.

Fake review. You can't use the cable and software unless you pay more money for a "professional subscription". This major detail is left out of the video on purpose so stupid people, like myself, buy the cable and software for 30.00 thinking that is all they have to purchase, other than a new key. How many keys some with the 2019 Toyota Highlander XLE

Most of these items have reviews that state that the software provided or downloaded for the device contains multiple viruses. Could you be specific about which cable you recommend and how to get virus free software for it.
I purchased the cable on the video but it appears that in order for it to work, you would need this cable with firmware 2.0.4. the firmware before that doesn't give you access to the smart key option. Can you confirm this?

Awesome video! Did my key registration in seconds. I have a 2016 Lexus IS 200t and you have to select OTHER if you don't get the option to select smart key. It will take you to the utility for the key registration. This video is very straight forward and it was well put together.

I have a Toyota Yaris 2018, key operating ignition.I'd like to program that key to act as an auto starter with a range the same as the range I open/close the doors on my remote key function.
I saw there are videos out there on how to manually program that key for opening/closing the door.

It is possible, dealer can do that, but it requires installing and programming additional ignition control modules. It will cost you a few thousand dollars.

Just try it. If ECU is present and works properly, software should detect it when you get to the main menu.

You'll need to use the same cable and software, just select "without smart key" in step 4, and you will get different instructions for your particular car.

Hi DIY, I like your simple instructions but I am having issues that weren't covered in the video. I have a 2015 Highlander hybrid. I'm with you all the way until 1:05, from there I get a screen that asks me to enter "registration software->new key" I hit cancel and then I am unable to progress further. I follow your steps to plug OBD in first, then usb end, then Start button push 2x, then open software followed by connect to car. When I try to connect it asks for a 'new key' as if it's trying to register the software. Can you help me?

Basically, in 1:55 seconds of this video, you mentioned to go and remove some of the options from the key that you no longer have, my question is how do you know which registered smart key to remove? Because I don’t want to remove the one that I actually have accidentally instead of removing the one I lost.

Basically it will erase all registered keys except the one bring used for the erasure procedure.

I'm researching smart keys and noticed most are made by the same manufacturer and run on the same frequency. Is it possible to have a smart key from Subaru for example, be converted to the 433.92 MHz and then programmed to the vehicle? The Subaru Smart Key runs at 314.35 MHz but I noticed that frequency is country based and can be changed to the other frequency if the computer has the software available. I'm interested in installing Advanced Keys push button start system to the vehicle and according to their manuals, their system runs at 433.92MHz. That's why I'm interested in seeing if it's possible to do so with the Subaru key if they were to work at the same frequency and then follow the Advanced Keys smart key programming instructions.

Worked on my 2017 ct200h. The steps where diff there was no year or engine code or smart key option. It knew the car and vin I just chose the 1st thing in option on both sections. Then when you get to the yellow list choose entry & start. Then it will show a blank page then hit the utility button then the key code registration was there hope this helps also I just let the company that I bought the cable from remote load it on my laptop. From the disc you get from them you need to load the team viewer program then open it and send them an email with the with all the numbers that pop up when u open it for them to remote load it. You need to have the disc in your laptop and the cable hooked up to a USB port make sure it's a 2.0 not a 3.0 USB port I tried it on my new laptop and it would not work because of 3.0 USB. Also you need to be online. I hope this helps just one person. Thank you for your vidio!!

The program doesn't allow for me to put in the "Smart Key Option" when inputting the vehicle information (I have a 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid), so I put in "Toyota, Camry HV, 2007, and it automatically put in the engine, but it did not allow me to put in "Smart Key Option". Then in the next screen I clicked the Smart Key button, and it took to me to the screen where I was supposed to click "Utility", but there was no "Utility" button there. Please help :)

Hi, my key fob works but the tailgate button does not open the rear door. Its a 2013 Toyota higlander hybrid limited. All other ways to open the rear door work. Button from inside and.button on rear door to close it works. Do i need to reprogram the sam fob or just but a new key fob and program that? Thanks
I would not mess with the original key and buy a new one instead.
Also, open the key fob and check if the logic board has any damage, rust or dirt. Try to press the button while key is taken apart. Sometimes the rubber pad wears out and buttons stops working.

I was looking at TechStream's website, and it says that in order to buy their 'professional' software subscription you must be a current member of the NASTF Vehicle Security Professional Registry. I'm guessing that might be something new since your post is from two years ago. Any update to this info or thoughts?
That one is for locksmith. It’s when all keys are lost. Middle subscription will give you access to Techstream, which is enough if you simply copying your original master key.

I received the cable and disc to program a 2017 Camry. When I install the software and start the program, version 14.30.023, a registration menu pops up and wants a new key. I didn't see anything about this in your video. Can you explain what the situation is and how this can be corrected so I can program the smart key?

Hi ,,, I do have a toyota camry hybird 2011 smart key but it is not communicate with car. The dealer taught me to bring the remote closer to push button and press break and hear for beep sound to start the car. So it means I do have atleast one key that starts my car. Here is my question. I have programmed 2 keys using Techstream: one for 2012 Lexus LS460 and another for 2010 Highlander Hybrid. Everything works fine except the trunk in the Lexus and the liftgate in the highlander open buttons. I hold it down and nothing happens. When I use the original keys, the trunk and the liftgate open. I bought used keys that were reset by ebay seller so they were virgin. I checked the model numbers on the key and inside the key. They match. Any idea what the problem may be? I checked the "customize" section of the techstream and the trunk-open setting is set correct to open when the button is pressed for 0.8s, hence original keys do work in that mode. Does the trunk button have to be programmed separately? Appreciate the help.

I have techstream on a windows 7 laptop and was able to program one lexus smart key fob in addition to the original one, but for some reason the third remote I have will not program, even though the program says I have 2 programmed and 5 additional spots available. I tried it in classic mode and the other mode as well. After tapping the original key to the start button and getting the one beep and then touching the virgin remote to the button, Instead of getting two beeps, it only gives off one beep and then fails to program. I have tried to program a 3rd remote several times with 2 different remotes that were reset or "virginized" by a Locksmith company. The second remote that I was able to be successfully program came from the same place as these, so I am at a loss. Any tips or insight as to why I can not get a third remote to program even though there is space to do so?
You can try to delete your second remote and check if third remote would program after that. If not, it’s probably not unlocked properly, defective or incompatible. Also, open up your original and third fob and compare the numbers on circuit boards. They might be it the same/for different frequencies.
