  • Written recipe for Sev tamatar sabji with jowar bhakri
    Prep time: 20 mins
    Cooking time: 20 mins
    Serves: 4
    Jowar bhakri
    Ingredients:
    • Jowar 2 cups
    • Salt ½ tsp
    • Onion 1 tbsp (chopped)
    • Kasuri methi 1 tsp
    • Fresh coriander 1 tbsp
    • Green chillies 2-3nos. (chopped)
    • Hot water as required
    Method:
    • In a mixing bowl add the jowar, salt, onions, kasuri methi, fresh coriander and green chillies, mix well.
    • Add hot water and mix well to knead a soft dough.
    • Shape into small roundels, flatten the dough ball
    • Sprinkle some dry flour to avoid it from sticking to the surface, shape into bhakri by applying pressure in a circular motion. A rolling pin can also be an option for making bhakri.
    • Cook it on hot tawa, apply water on the upper surface of the bhakri, allow it to dry and flip and cook on other side as well.
    • You can also cook the bhakri by applying ghee.
    • Serve hot.
    Sev tamatar ki sabji
    Ingredient:
    • Ghee 1 tbsp
    • Mustard seeds (rai) 1 tsp
    • Cumin seeds (jeera) ½ tsp
    • Asafoetida (hing) 1 tsp
    • Onions 2 medium size (chopped)
    • Garlic 1 tbsp (chopped)
    • Red chilly powder 1 tbsp
    • Coriander powder 1 tbsp
    • Turmeric powder ½ tsp
    • Tomatoes 3-4 medium size (chopped)
    • Salt to taste
    • Hot water 500 ml
    • Sev 1 cup
    • Garam masala 1 tsp
    • Sugar 1 tsp (optional)
    • Fresh coriander 1 tbsp
    Methods:
    • Heat ghee in a wok, add Mustard seeds and Cumin seeds, allow it to crackle.
    • Add onions and cook until they are translucent.
    • Add garlic and cook for a minute.
    • Add the powdered spices and cook further for a minute.
    • Add tomatoes and salt, cook until they are mushy.
    • Add hot water and mix, cover and cook for 4-5 minutes.
    • Add sev to the gravy and bring it to a boil, cover and cook for 2-3 minutes.
    • Add garam masala and sugar which is optional, mix well and finish it with some freshly chopped coriander leaves.
    • Serve hot with hot jowar bhakri.

    This is traditional gujarati dish.. we are cooking this since 100s of years.. best and quick dish..and my personal favorite.

      I am also Gujarati Bt there is two variation of it.Some of us made it Sweet and spicy And Some of us Add Garlic and li'l much onion.We jst make Tameta nu shaak and Add tbe sev jst before eating.

      @@hetugor710 no it is not ratlami sev ...it is normal red chilli flavour medium sev...easily available in market...sev's colour is red see in video..same in market.👍u can use other flavour Jaise sanchal sev ,tomato sev👍

    The dough for bhakri is too dry.. if you add more water and knead a crack free dough, then the bhakris remain soft for hours.

      Ha ha ha pehle to isse bhakhri nahi kehte ye bajre ka rotla hai........ Aur dusra bhakhri ka dough tight hi hota hai aur bhakhri kabhi soft nahi hoti..........

    ohhh yummm........ it is very famous in Gujarat.. it is called sev tameta na sag ane bakhri..
    but here bhakhri is different as it tastes like biscuit..

    Usually there is no onion in the typical/traditional sev tameta dish and we use jaggery mostly not sugar!

    Grey is the other bhaakree. Bhaakree is made once in a while in cities. It is specifically tasty food. It is not tasty food. There are not many fans of bhaakree.

    The real Jowar bhakri or jwaalada rotti as it’s called in Kannada is a plain roti without any of the additional things you put, some families don’t even put salt but yes it is made by beating and wiping one surface with a wet cloth and it puffs out.

      We should add the sev just before serving.....or else it gets soggy.
