    She turned out quite nice. A very usable unit in a small space. Overall a very well done job.
    I like all the compact, efficient light weight trailers from this period. They have a specialness to them that bridges the passage of time to today. They have a flair to them which is missing in a lot of the new trailers today. These are trailers which are light enough to actually be towed with a regular compact or mid size car because they weigh in at 1800 to 2500 pounds instead of 3400 to 5000 pounds of todays compact trailers.
    I would have added a coat of varnish, paint or stain to the back side of the cabinet doors myself and sanded and painted the raw edges on the cabinet openings. But that is just me. It’s one of the biggies I don’t like about todays travel trailers. They are all spruced up and flashy on the outside and what you see in the sales brochures, but every time you open a door or drawer, you see the unfinished everything else. I have seen a number of name brand trailers from the 60s where when you opened the doors, all the inside edges and surfaces were properly sanded and finished off. I know it’s standard practice though out the industry to leave all those unfinished and rough edges, but to me it just looks like poor workmanship and cost cutting and being cheap.

      I leave them unfinished so you can see my craftsmanship. Some people do like them painted though.

    Can you put together something on what window knobs were used on the jalouise windows each year. Have you considered making different plans for the table and leg and the hardware that was used, cabinet knobs to include cabinet configurations for each year and what trailer they were used in? I just bought a 1971 Scotty Sportsman that will need a frame up restoration

      I had not thought of doing any type of ongoing documentation other than filming for TH-cam. I think there are some guys out there that want to document for history. I don't think the 71 is much different than the 70.

    Curious why you don't put 12v service in any of your campers? No fresh water tanks. They had them originally. No lp service so you can't use a stove. They had them originally? Would be nice to be able to have a 2 way refrigerator. Do people always have electricity and water hookup nowadays when they camp?

    • @RobTheRebuilder
      @RobTheRebuilder  ปีที่แล้ว

      When it comes to those amenities, I leave those choices up to the customer. Some do not want to cook in hot weather in their small camper. They would rather have counter space. We are putting 12 volt in our current build. Most of our customers want to be comfortable and camp at a campground with other vintage campers so they all have 30 amp service.

    I bought a 1972 gaucho scotty that the previous owner had rebuilt the frame and skinned it but said the original Skins were ruined and couldn't use them. He did include skins from another camper (not a scotty) and for the life of me I can't wrap my head around how to use them on the scotty. Ideas?

    • @RobTheRebuilder
      @RobTheRebuilder  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As long as you could cut out the Scotty shape without any trouble. Might be worth buying new skin.

      @@RobTheRebuilder yeah I've thought about that too but trying to keep cost down as much as possible. I'm not rebuilding to keep it vintage but would like to keep the vintage look.

      @@brandivoyles6138 I saw one person (foster wayne) use aluminum sheet and must have had a break to put such straight "creases" so it was like scalloped. That is new Aluminum sheet, but $$ vs used skins. You could find boxboard/cardboard and tape enough up to match your scotty for window cutouts, door, etc and then lay this template on the skins you do have...sounds like a PITA since two different makers...window size and location is NOT going to be correct... Good luck !

    Rob~ When you put glass light fixtures in do you ever find they break while traveling? I want to do this, looks great, I'm worried they will unscrew while in travel or just shake around enough to chip. I could remove them and pack them up real quick though? Would love your feedback and tips regarding this. Great video Rob!

    • @RobTheRebuilder

      They came with glass globes in the 50's and they are still hanging in there. It wouldn't hurt to check after each trip for peace of mind.
