I started looking for my first shotgun, and after hours of research, I quickly realized that the 14" Shockwave is not legal in Iowa. However, the 18.5" model is, with a total length of about 31" OAL (overall length). Then, I found the Maverick Cruiser with a 20" barrel, which is also around 31" OAL, making it just as compact as the Iowa-legal 18.5" Shockwave. Now, I'm leaning toward the 590S with a 20" barrel, which allows me to change the choke. It would also be under 31" when folded with a folding stock, and I can fire it that way. Plus, it can carry 13 mini shells. The only drawback is that I can't change the barrel on the 20" model. So, I might go with the 590S 18.5" with a folding stock since I can use 835 barrels on that one. Long story short, I'm still shopping, but I've already ruled out the Shockwave after the first day. I can build something that's classified as just a shotgun in any state, is not much bigger than the Shockwave, and offers a lot more customization options. Still shopping, any thoughts? Am I on the right track?
@@Thejohnnyoshow Only you can know what really works for your application. And it sounds to me that you’re looking for a “do it all” shotgun? I know Palmetto State Armory is offering a new shotgun that is very customizable, I haven’t had an opportunity to try one yet, and I’m not sure when the launch date of that firearm is. That being said, anything you purchase will be a compromise, because nothing will be perfect for every situation. My recommendation is to stick with the usual suspects like Mossberg, Remington, Beretta, and even PSA… They are all great companies that stand by their products. Hope this helps! And obviously follow your local and state laws 😎
Neither is what I would call “painful” to shoot, even with 00 buck like the ones we were shooting. However, the Maverick 88 was far more controllable for Mr. Obvious and myself. If you are particularly recoil shy, neither of these are your friend. Hope this helps
Great video but missed a major point when it comes to design-impact on felt recoil. The shockwave has less felt recoil due to the birds head grip forcing the shooter’s wrist into a better position to handle said recoil. The pistol grip on the maverick makes the recoil way worse.
@@Jack-de3sb That’s good when hip firing, however when aiming, it’s very difficult (for me) to control the birds head grip. That being said you have a different experience and that’s why we have so many options! Isn’t being an American wonderful lol Thanks for sharing my friend
Just bought a cruiser and bought a raptor grip for $30 so I can see which I like better. Might get the shockwave eventually but for the price seems like you can’t beat a maverick.
Buy an Opsol for 20 bucks or less and the Mini shells can be shot reliably from either the Shockwave or The 88. I like the 88 better than the Shockwave because it is lighter, with a better safety location for guns without a stock Easier to aim and cost about half as much. Mine is Not the Cruiser But the regular 20 inch barrel 7+1 88 Maverick Security with stock Removed and Hogue Tamer pistol grip installed . The Hogue Tamer with rubber on the outside of the of the Hardshell where it attaches to the reciever. And a soft internal Gell spot right where the web of the hand sits, Cost about 35 Dollars and well worth it. For precision aiming put a laser on and they can be shot accurately from any gun position. Subbed when I found this Video.
@@billyhenard1473 Thanks for taking the time to comment! I appreciate the suggestions, I definitely agree on the safety situation being better on the 88… Also the laser will be a must for me as well 👍
I just found a different Mini shell adapter made by defendertactical that allows you to use the regular 2-3/4 shells and the 3 inch shells at the same time that you are using the 1.75 mini shells I have 2 on their way to me. Just wanted to let you know about it.
I hate pistol grips but the birdshead looks nice. Unless you want to keep it as a truck gun or close quarters self defense your better off with a stocked gun
Good comparison fellas.
Appreciate that brother 👍

I have a cruiser. It's painful with heavy loads. And I have lots of shotgun experience.
Shockwave with birds head is alot less painful than the pistol grip period
