Right, so theory time: As I understand it, DNA doesn't tell you literally where you're born. Just your genetic makeup. The killer is mixed-race, an Asian father and a white mother. The dirt in his pockets came from California, suggesting either (1) he and his family *were* American, or (2) he was visiting America. When you brought up the military base, and that he may have been a military brat, it would explain why he was never caught. My theory is that he and his family are American, and either his father or mother is part of the US military and was stationed there at the time. Killer may have been a skateboarding loud-mouth (as evidenced by Mikio being seen yelling at them) who got told off and decided Mikio and his family had to die for that. He sticks around for a few hours then returns home like nothing happens, ultimately moving away from Japan when the family gets re-assigned elsewhere.
@@shy404usernotfound If we take the skater route, isn't there a skate park near the cali beach? Could be he was wearing the pack, plopped it down to skate and got sand in there and it wasn't a "Oh, sand from a cali beach, I need to take this with me as a memento!" thing.
The most likely theory is the culprit was a relative of a foreign soldier,he fled back to his own country afterwards. I read an article before saying his DNA test shows one of his parents is Asian, and the other one has European ancestry (most likely his father)
That's what I'm thinking. An American military brat who was skateboarding in the area, got into an argument with Mikio, got pissed and decided the man and his family needed to die. He then leaves like nothing happens and eventually moves back home when the father is re-assigned.
Ether way the evidence they left suggests they didn't care if they were caught and maybe thought they were untouchable. I think it has to be someone that doesn't live in America though or a country that doesn't have extradition with Japan.
At least the Tokyo Metropolitan Police is still trying to solve the case. In Brazil, a case like this, without any developments, would be archived after one year.
@@jahovachite It also could be just someone without a criminal record that just so happened to have taken a holiday to California with said bum bag prior to the murders or someone from cali on holiday on japan. @@facetubetwit1444 although that's definitely a really good point, I think one of the more telling signs is that the sand was also found at the skatepark. That in particular and also being tied back to wearing bigger clothing, as well as the particularly brutal circumstance in which they were murdered leads me to believe that it wasn't a Japanese person otherwise there would be more killings like this. Also not to mention you have to be particularly strong to be able to break a knife in someone's head and then go kill two other people knowingly with a broken knife broken knife and only sustained a hand injury. That would be more telling of somebody who would have a larger stature and weight who can deliver more force behind each blow. Also the amount of tea that was drank even for a 2 to 10 hour period would still be pretty drastic that's a lot of fluid intake for one person. All these signs in particular lead my conclusion to be that it was a foreigner. Not even particularly an American as we said in the video, with somebody who simply has access and means to travel and would have committed the crime and fled do another place afterwards. I feel like this wouldve been the child of a US military service member, someone who grew up there but spoke English fluently and has dual citizenship and therefore was able to escape the country relatively undetected. The killer probably didn't buy any of the clothes, they would've been purchased by their parents instead. I...... have a bit of a theory. This could have been done by a military person. Setagaya isn't that far from Yokota. It's an hour cab ride. Killer does his thing, hangs out, leaves in the morning, catches a cab, goes back to base, goes through the gate, goes back to the barracks, and then very soon after goes on deployment, probably with one of the ships from Yokosuka. It would also explain the sand from a beach in California, as well as the fanny pack. Which were the shit back in 2000.
only thing that bugs me is the use of the computer implies the culprit knew japanese. service members in 95-99% of cases do not stay in a host country long enough to learn the language, especially with japanese being an extremely difficult language to learn. im sure at the onset of the andrews afb discovery it would be trivial to make a list of who at yokota had previously been at andrews. and if my language theory is correct on being able to use the computer, american japanese speakers affiliated with the base who also had a connection to andrews would be a list of 5-15 people at most.

dude i was literally thinking about this and wondered if someone would say the same, leaving sm clothes AND unflushed poop seems almost premeditated, now you got the whole police analyzing these mismatched “clues” for decades and none of it was ever yours
Right? Even on the articles of clothing. They could've just asked/paid anyone to buy those for them. They could've also bought clothes that would match taller people and wore those even if they're on the shorter side for the police to think that they're taller than they actually are.
But 10:50 people still use cash to pay for most things in Japan, and you will too as a tourist, so make sure you visit an exchange place and take what you need for the next few days and Stash the rest
Something to add regarding the sales history / the clothes the killer had purchased. Even today Japan is still more of a cash based society. If we’re talking back all the way to 2000 the amount of people who had credit cards in the area probably didn’t even reach triple digits. The shops record of purchase would have nothing.

My guess is it is likely the older child of a US Airforce officer who either a) knew he would return home or b) was sent back right away when this was found out and then covered up. Based on the sand, clothing sizes and style, dna haplotypes, and just how brazen the amount of evidence left over was. Military brats tend to not care when overseas. It could also be tied into the argument at the skatepark as skateboarding was very popular with American teens at the time.
A US military kid or member would most likely have been wearing American clothing. The sand from California is a red herring, as are the clothes left. This is corporate espionage or a professional hit. Or a Yakuza job. Japanese police are notorious for overlooking Yakuza activities.
I always remembered this case because of the fact that some people tried blaming skaters. There was a thing where people saw kids with the spitfire wheels logo which is a very popular brand even back then and thought it was some demonic shit.

this case is terrifying for obvious reasons, but one of the creepiest details in my opinion, is that the killer possibly took a nap after murdering this entire family. you have to be pretty cold to murder 4 people and then be able to fall asleep right after.
My biggest thing is i feel like a foreigner in 2000 would really stand out. Kamisoshigaya has a population of like 20k today, so its kinda weird that no one would have stepped forward after all this time if it had been about a fight at the skatepark.

dude i was literally thinking about this and wondered if someone would say the same, leaving sm clothes AND unflushed poop seems almost premeditated, now you got the whole police analyzing these mismatched “clues” for decades and none of it was ever yours
Right? Even on the articles of clothing. They could've just asked/paid anyone to buy those for them. They could've also bought clothes that would match taller people and wore those even if they're on the shorter side for the police to think that they're taller than they actually are.
I think he just didn’t care and is an absolute evil psychopath
@@pixilmon Yeah, that's also possible.

But 10:50 people still use cash to pay for most things in Japan, and you will too as a tourist, so make sure you visit an exchange place and take what you need for the next few days and Stash the rest
The tv records and the “does this remind you of anything strange” is fucking chilling that it is that specific
Omg, I'm not even done with the video yet, but pls more deep dive into true crime cases pls!
He cant, hes dead.
Something to add regarding the sales history / the clothes the killer had purchased. Even today Japan is still more of a cash based society. If we’re talking back all the way to 2000 the amount of people who had credit cards in the area probably didn’t even reach triple digits. The shops record of purchase would have nothing.
actually wouldnt be the first time a service member did something like this in Japan... there is a reason they want the bases gone... it happens way to much
Who wants which bases gone?

Billy:
You hear that, Stu? I think she wants a motive. Well, I don't really believe in motives, Sid. I mean, did Norman Bates have a motive?
Stu:
No.
Billy:
Did we ever find out why Hannibal Lector liked to eat people? DON'T THINK SO. See, it's a lot scarier when there's no motive.
An interesting point is that the killer's footprints confirm that his shoes were bought in South Korea. Japan and Korea follow different size charts and the killers shoeprints match a standard shoe size in Korea but dont match any Japanese size. If the killer was a foreigner and has left the country, that makes the case incredibly difficult to solve.
Now this is a classic Har vid. Glad it's not more internet drama.

I genuinely really like these type of videos Mutahar. Don't mean to ask for more since TH-cam is a luxury but please make these type of videos longer, I would be very appreciative.
I've always been interested in this case. Its so nuts.
i’ve been following this case for years checking every few months for updates. i hope one day there’s news to be had.
" i will always say that the scariest stuff is always what human beings do to each other" , yeah what a cruel world this has to be because the world is just math and it has to be balanced , it always has to be "0". :(
I loved this, very interesting. Also liked the Background music, thanks for this, mutahar.
Do you have any idea how little that narrows it down?
The thumbnail narrows it down more than the title I saw the notification on my phone which is just the title of the video by the way and I thought it was going to be about Unit 731 or the Nanjing Massacre
This video was great and you should do a lot more like this. Reminded me of mrballen. Much better than your other content that's mostly about Internet drama.
This feels personal tbh
Muta fell into the "literally rabbithole like we're in leafy's era

@@iennefaLsh not a literal rabbit hole man, he simply took a liking recently to over-using the word literally, which like I said, reminds me of Leafy and his constant "lichrally" lol.
Sounds like a Reacher storyline. Speaking of which those connections do make me think it was a US military cover up of one of their brats
This was neat a change from what you usually do
"It's one of the oldest cold cases ever, it goes all the way back to 2000" When you said that, I had a brief moment where I thought wtf how is that old...
Bro I laughed so hard about that.
Was not aware of thise case, keep bringing this type of content Mutha, great video, greetings from Costa Rica my dude
The Junko Furuta and Hello Kitty girl murders were way more evil
you got her last name wrong its Furuta
It's not a competition. All murders are horrible 🙄
Both pale in comparison to Unit 731.
For real especially regarding the Furuta Case. To the point the press actually LEAKED the names of the boys who did it despite Japan's *extreme privacy laws* but everyone saw it as a reasonable move.
Spoilers: I live in Japan and those "boys" are out free now with completely new identities. Good thing I'm not a teenage girl, I suppose 😅
We're talking human lives here, we're not power scaling murder cases?
Just had the best smoke sesh to this crazy video. Thank You Muta!

Disorderly crime is worse than organized crime (although both are not ideal)
Leaving behind a deuce at the murder scene is WILD.
Hey Mutahar

7:22 Okay but what about that weird little police mascot being on the murder flyer
Probably an American at the base there. Love this kind of content keep it going Muta!
It was an American airman. That sand is telling.
I wonder if they’ve been in contact with USAF staff/records

I always remembered this case because of the fact that some people tried blaming skaters. There was a thing where people saw kids with the spitfire wheels logo which is a very popular brand even back then and thought it was some demonic shit.

The government yes, but not the citizens.

At this point, if Aliens came and grabbed me, I'd consider it a rescue mission.
You're 100% right. Unit 731 wasn't a crime at all, let alone the worse one.

this case is terrifying for obvious reasons, but one of the creepiest details in my opinion, is that the killer possibly took a nap after murdering this entire family. you have to be pretty cold to murder 4 people and then be able to fall asleep right after.

My biggest thing is i feel like a foreigner in 2000 would really stand out. Kamisoshigaya has a population of like 20k today, so its kinda weird that no one would have stepped forward after all this time if it had been about a fight at the skatepark.
