Dr Esselstyn, I want to thank you so much for your intelligent thinking, your willingness to take on so much flak from business interest groups, your genuine concern for the health of your patients, and your commitment to your Hippocratic oath. You have worked so hard, and more work is needed by those that follow, but you have been one of the finest leaders in the plant based food community, and I am so grateful for the help and information I have obtained from you (and others). Thank you!
By the time I learned about this I have had a massive heart attack at 40 yrs old.I am now 58 yrs old I feel great and reversed my heart disease with K-2 MK-7 and D3
Can you please clarify my doubt. K2 is a vitamin k ( Family) which is mainly responsible for blood clotting. For heart patients, the blood needs to be thin . If we take K2 , the blood become thicker. Kindly clear my doubt. What brand of K2 mk7 and vitamin D3 you use. Would be very helpful. Thank you.
Dr. Esselstyn, I have a concern. I carry one copy of the APOE4 allele. My pattern is E4/E3. The users on the APOE4 info website and Dr. Steven Gundry all say that APOE4s cannot eat a high carbohydrate diet and must stick to avocados, olive oil, non-starchy vegetables, and some fish. Indeed, 2.5 hours after eating 8 small purple yams (1.5 to 2 lbs.), my blood glucose is still 148 mg/dL. 5 hours later, it is still 120 mg/dL. I would hate to replace yams, beans, fruits, and oats with avocados and olive oil, but my glucose just is not improving despite eating extremely little fat. I once went on a low carbohydrate diet for several years to control my acne which did not go away despite a low fat high carbohydrate plant based diet, but had to stop because my cholesterol and LDL became elevated. Now I no longer have acne, but my glucose is still unable to be controlled. I never drank dairy back then when I had acne and still do not consume it.
Is there a time when it's too late? Feel so poorly, can't find help. Maybe cause am female, 65, obese, no one takes seriously I want to change having trouble
No time is too late. You alone are your greatest help -- you cannot depend on any oustide help, its a selfish vicious world out there. You do not need anyone else to take it seriosuly. As long as you yourself decide to take it seriosuly, you will surmount this trouble. Go for it. Make the change already. Depend on no one else.
This works perfectly to prevent, halt, and reverse coronary artery disease, which I have. I'm 78 and started the diet 8 years ago, full-bore whole plant food diet, and he has a study out of about 200 people where once again, everyone who did the diet, about 90 percent this time had NO further issues, after suffering heart attacks, strokes, deaths, on the US diet. You might have to be older to get this into your head, but you're very lucky if you can do it, because the benefits go way beyond just fixing your disease. My depression left, ED improved, acid reflux gone, blood sugar came down, I'm happier and more energetic than have been in the last 20 years. You're not gonna believe it if you do it. If.
Fructose metabolism in the liver results in increased Uric acid that interferes with our Nitric oxide in arterial walls. Have you ever met a patient who has gout who does not have HTN?????
They did not "switch". The Norwegian diet underwent many changes after 1940, including lower cholesterol, whole milk, cheese, saturated fat, and as you would imagine, lower total fat.
I don't eat sugar, never, no red meat, no diary, no some stuff that is acidic like tomato and grapefruit, try to avoid white pasta and now no oil too ? What about omegas 3 of DNA pills ?
I had a similar question regarding a purified Norwegian liquid Fish Oil that I take and also one from algae. I'm actually afraid of the answer I might hear! Best wishes!
You can eat ground flaxseed. But no flaxseed oil. Flaxseed is high in omega 3. You can eat some nuts but no nut oil. Also take 500 microgram vit b12 supliment every day.
Absolutely love that some baby boomers are starting to reach the age when they think of the legacy they are leaving! When complaining about the 24 Trillion mis-spent on health care I can just imagine the practicing portion of the audience cringing and thinking *That 24 Trillion pays for my house, my boats, my vacations, my mistresses, puts my kids thru Yale, etc. etc. etc.*
Following his advice for the last 2 plus years. I think it has helped and certainly did not harm being on a plant base diet. But! I am not convinced that it will reverse heart diseases for everyone. I think that is just too big of a claim.
And you can add to the list the following slim and fit who also did this plant diet: Andy Kaufman, Robin Gibb, Linda McCartney, Gilda Radner, Dr. Henry S. Lodge, Dr. Clive McCay, Mr. Rogers, Nathan Pritikin, Euell Gibbons, Dr. Paavo Airola, Davy Jones, Jay Dinshah, and guess what happened? And this is just the short list.

Makes no sense. He wants us to avoid sugar, but fruits contain lots of fructose and glucose. And grains are mostly starch which gets converted to glucose immediately and the body will convert too much glucose through an intermediary to fructose. Which then causes all the diseases he wants to avoid as they hurt the endothelial.

Where are the controls for those experiments? Were the calories reduced, was it exercise, smoking cessation?
The controls are the tens of thousands who did not enter this program.

What is Dr. Esselstyn's opinion on eating insects?
Just wondering why this cannot be replicated in a randomized control setting? That would seal the deal for many Americans in doubt.
You can't placebo control if someone is eating mostly green leafy vegetables or not.

What about oxolates and enough protein
You can easily get more than enough protein from legumes and/or tofu and tempeh.

It's bad info
Fruit has fiber, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, polyphenol, phytochemicals all necessary for life and health. Whole foods. Sugar does not.
