"A fish out of water story."
That's a funny way to describe Jaws and I love it.

The shot of the shark eating the Kenter kid is terrifying.

@@RepresentThis It's also a very strange sequence, as it looks like the shark does an alligator-style death roll while chomping on the kid. I never quite understood what was going on, but it was technically a reshoot, so perhaps Spielberg just wanted to get the shot and move on.

I don't know what is scarier! If jaws had an explanation that paralleled the increase shark attacks of the activities of the World Wars. Or the random uncontrollable forces of nature

how come Spielberg does the same thing over and over and it works - combining family fun attraction with the terrifying drama that teaches u a deep lesson?

I love John Williams scores and this one is iconic. I've seen deep dives into his work that show he's intensely involved in the story process because nothing he writes is incidental. There are motifs that not only add mood to the stories but give clues and foreshadowing to every moment.

I'm loving your take on this movie, one of those films that never grows old or fails to scare. It truly is a gem and I'm glad you're covering it.

This series of yours is fantastic, adding so much depth to the movie. showing us behind the scenes and breaking down what we see on screen. Amity is such a dynamic community that has some elements that are recognisable and some that aren't. I mean recognisable as in what we experience in real life. I am from a small community near the sea but I'm not personally involved with the sea. The quirky characters, the attitudes and the petty divisions within small communities too.

They really did pick a great location for the film, and I agree the townsfolk are perfect.

Well, I kind of grew up with movies being like my parents so I always took movies and their history very seriously. I guess that's why I cover a lot of history when covering films to keep them in the context at the time they came out. Glad you liked it, hope you like our upcoming stuff as well.

@RepresentThis I'd love for you to tackle The Thing. That film was a life changer. I saw it at the drive-in in the summer of '82. I was just a kid...but I told myself that filmmaking is what I want to do. So...years later I was able to get into the film program at UT Austin. Jaws is one of my favorites...I love Shaw and the editing in Jaws is monumental. I love that scene of Brody on the beach...Spielberg uses a step zoom with organic wipes using the people walking by. Then he hits us with the Hitchcock dolly zoom. Brilliant stuff.

@@JawsBites The Thing is a high priority for us to do. However, we want to build the library a bit and at least cover the AVP series after finishing Predator 1 and 2. As it stands right now our next series after Gremlins 2 is Predator, then Close Encounters of the Third Kind, then Total Recall, Airplane and then maybe Beneath the Planet of the Apes before going into Halloween and then Predator 2.
Halloween will be our first video of our John Carpenter series as we intend to cover most of his films from 78 to the 90's like They Live, Escape from New York. The Thing will be our second John Carpenter Video after Halloween.
I agree with the camera usage and editing in this film. Verna was just a genius, no way around it. She deserved her Academy Award. Brilliant editor.

So many people poured their love into making that film brilliant, starting with the talents of some amazing writers, including Spielberg and the actors, followed by Spielberg knowing exactly where to put the camera for maximum impact, the innovations of cinematographer Bill Butler, the taut editing of Verna Fields, piecing the film together in its most fluid story form and the playful genius of John Williams in creating a simple shark theme that would powerfully tap into our most primal fears, surrounded by wonderful, adventurous sea chanty melodies!
