I’ve always found Dean Ashton eminently sensible. Hope he’s on more.
He was a quality player too, if injuries didn't ruin him and force him to retire at 26 then he really could have been a top top player.
He injured his ankle whilst on England duty at 23 years old and gave up the fight 3 years later unfortunately. Was being touted for a move to a big club at the time so his career was very much about to take off.

Not too sure why this is even a topic of discussion. Like any one of us, Ben too has every right to keep the reason(s) for his WC exit private. Irrespective of the "it's in the national interests" thing, clearly Ben feels that he does not (at this time) wish to discuss it. I'm sure we have all had a moment where we felt more comfortable keeping something quiet, regardless of the issue and if he felt comfortable to discuss it, he would have done. Few months again, there were rumors at Man U about Ronaldo wanting to leave and not showing up for preseason. Many in the media, including former teammates, said Ronaldo needs to say something. Few months later, he says something from the bottom of his heart and gets crucified by the media for speaking out. Let Ben White do what he thinks best for him in this case and not what is “appropriate” to do.
Well said! Imagine you going home from work knowing you know and your boss knows why but when you come in the next day everyone is saying you should tell everyone why you went. Absolutely not, it’s obviously a private matter and should remain so. This discussion is madness in my opinion. James Maddison went to the World Cup with this England squad without kicking a ball even for the fact we all know he is a better player than Mason Mount, he was humble enough to stay calm on the bench, that was something White could not take, White knew very well that he was physically in good form and mentally in good shape ahead of the unfit Walker but Walker was chosen to play and start games ahead of him, so he left the bias coach and came back home, Simple.
White would have been very useful in that England team especially when they came up against Oliver Giroud who has a great strength advantage in the air with his head.

It's a positive for Benjamin White. He has been used the same as James Maddison in the expanded squad from 23 to 26. The 2 of them were selected through merit (as well as stopping media hounding). Once Maguire rediscovered his excellent form as a RCB, Trippier performed well as a RB and Walker became fit again for both those positions, maybe there was no need for him to stay. He was never in the FA youth team club and possibly couldn't wait for the 1 hour flight to get back with Arteta, his staff and the rest of the group
No one mentioned Partey and Xhaka travelled earlier and separately from their national teams to Dubai. The other unusable players in the manager's eyes were thinking it's their only opportunity due to fitness (Wilson), Nicest man in football (Coady) and Maddison who is on for a move. White has 4 years left and has quickly become one of the most intelligent and adaptable defenders 25 or under in the Prem. Guy didn't even play football until his mid- late teens, he'll be called on again for an effective role. Probably in 18 months at RB/RCB at the Euros tbh.

Ben White has been open previously that he's not from a football family and doesn't really like football or watch it in his spare time. He would have suffered from the wall 2 wall football that is the world cup and the expectation that he was to geek out over his own game. That's not who Ben is and the one size fits all approach of England would have grated. I expect he will win the EPL this year and not get called up again.
