I think one big difference between IG poetry and like literary poetry is the control. Especially control on the sound level. Poetry manipulates how we experience text (how does it feel on the tongue?) so ideas are equally somatic, emotional, and cognitive.
I think lot of the hate towards ig poetry are the ones that are basically just quotes/captions/statements but labeled as a poem. But I’m not sure entirely. I write poetry on paper, in my notes app, and have ig poems. I’m not sure if others would put mine in that category but of course I personally wouldn’t. There is hate towards “notes app poetry” too. Rupi’s poems are what sparked it I believe.
@@NatashaLeecole Exactly! I think “ig poetry” is what they call poetry that is too general to be regarded as a poem, but still gains popularity on social media. It’s not really about the medium as much as it is about the content/style of the poem!! I think people call it “ig poetry” when it lacks creativity, so perhaps poets need to unleash their creativity to be the opposite of that 🤠 good luck on your poetry! I’m sure it’s wonderful
