Ren is not just a songwriter he is a composer too. Knox hill said it all when he said Ren brings his music out of a studio into the world and I had not thought of it in that way.
I would like to invite you to go watch, in your own time, the Disco Doc reaction to this song. He is absolutely fantastic at including huge amounts of context, history and the original music in his reactions. Basically, I feel it is a fantastic place to get the whole story of Callum et al. Disco Doc is criminally under-viewed. Don't worry, there is room enough in my life for both of you 💋😍 Naughty Ren! Parallel fifths are taboo in classical music 😮
Great reaction. Loved the music theory aspect of your break down. It’s so moving. And yes somehow I feel Ren invented time travel because so many of his works defy time.
Hmm he's not starting on an F though, he's holding A-E in the left hand and right hand goes G G F E D C D E, that's basically an Am7 chord. Only after that phrase he moves to an F chord.
@@teckreactions the overall vibe, yes. Especially when he's walking those fifths (you were right) up and down. I'm not super familiar with modes, but I have an idea of what they can sound like.
@@aditsu actually, rewatching it, he’s walking sixths up and down. I didn’t catch that. Sixths or inverted thirds, however you want to say it. That lends more to modes. Here’s a good run down. www.learnjazzstandards.com/blog/what-are-modes-in-music/
@@teckreactionsif you're talking about 3:49, those are fifths. He's playing A-E A-E G-D F-C E-B D-A E-B F-C E-B D-A C-G B-F A-E G-D A-E B-F etc Somehow my brain was registering the first A above the E so I thought it was fourths, but I looked at his keyboard and it's indeed fifths.
I'm inexplicably enveloped by the echoes of his soulful melody as his fingers dance upon the notes. Though his lips remain still, the music resonates with such profound emotion that I can almost hear the lyrics he yearns to sing. It's as if his very essence pours forth through each note, painting a vivid tapestry of unspoken emotions that tug at the heartstrings with an intensity that words alone could never convey.
Great reaction! I really enjoy the breakdown. It was accessible even though I don't play any instruments myself, or know anything about music theory. Thank you!
Insidious time. With that middle “cornfield chase”-esque passage, this could be on the interstellar soundtrack. Makes sense. Anguish + time + finality. Grief. Fight or accept, but it’s relentless. A force so much larger than oneself. But then I lost my husband a year or so ago so I’m maybe projecting heavily.
Relentless. That's the one. For me, it's my 3 year old. When I gave birth to him and his older siblings, I used a coping technique that many women use: remember that I can endure anything for such a short duration as a contraction. That method is meaningless with grief. There's no pattern, or reason to when the waves hit, how hard they crash, or how long they'll wash over. And always - always - the pain returns with equally deep intensity as before. No matter how long we try, we cannot wait it out. This pain endures forever. I'm so sorry that you, too, have to live with this knowledge. ❤😢
@@sandiraymond1761 No, there’s no waiting it out. The only reliable relief I’ve found has been been maladaptive so far: good old dissociation, my childhood coping strategy. I try to be conscious of this and stay present, but I’m still losing so much time to it. At least the waves hit less often with time, but I don’t think they’ll ever be anything but all-consuming when they do arrive. I know it’s the deal implicit in loving that loss will follow, but it still seems profoundly shocking that we find ourselves here. I’m so sorry for your loss. Losing a child, suicide loss, both likely very “complicated” I’m told. I think this is true. Both losses are so freaking offensive against the blithely secure folks amongst us for whom losing a child or a suicide in a relatively young spouse, father to school-aged children, is absolutely impossible and unthinkable. I get that it’s too horrifying to comfortably sit with these possibilities for those who don’t have to, but still I find the loneliness of being intentionally not seen fully by others anymore to be an unexpected heaping of insult to injury. I miss not knowing these things. I have to believe it will get longer and longer between waves for us both. Or that the edge is taken off by healing with time. Something has to give, surely. ❤️ 😔
Joe had been on Menai Bridge and had jumped or fallen from the bridge, his body wasn't found. Tragically Callum also drowned, though in his case it was an accident. Out fishing with two other young men off Anglesey he was washed overboard, one of his friends tried to save him and also lost his life.
A beautiful piano movement in a beautiful setting which looks a great place for reflection. The interview I heard from Callums friend that was there - 4 of them went to the coastal cliffs with fishing rods at Cable Bay. Sadie I believe Callums gf was there too. Callum made a decision to go swimming in the sea and the sea was choppy and he struggled to get back another of Callums friends Lewis went in to rescue him. They both drowned Lewis having received a posthumous award for his bravery. So tragically two 22 year old young men lost their lives. The helicopter rescue recovered Lewis soon after but he had died. Callums body was recovered 5 days later. Other comments are made that imply that Callum went overboard from a boat. I know in the grand scheme of things he still lost his life but sadly Lewis did aswell RIP to both of them . Thank you for recognising the other friend of Callums 🎵🧡🔥👩🦰
The thing for me that just makes me live this so much more, is seeing Ren being absorbed by the music he's playing, it's like his soul and the keys are directly connected. Someone could copy this exactly but it would just sound like music, it wouldn't have the incredibly clear emotional connection ❤ love your reaction. Can't wait for you to see For Joe ♥️
Ok…it really creeps me out how much you know about music theory…because…you know…you’re a drummer. Sorry! Too many years spent in bands with bad drummers! Loved your break down of this. Really, I’ve loved every reaction of yours that I’ve seen. I don’t subscribe to any particular religious belief, but I know you do, therefore…happy Easter, my friend! And now…because I’m emotionally scarred…I will leave you with a drummer joke. How many drummers does it take to change a light bulb? None. They have machines that do that now.
