As a teen in the 80s I been to a few drive ins. The last one in our town was torn down in sometime in the 90s for a home depot. As a teen use to have a portable AM radio and sit on the over pass and watch the movie. Oh I do not know what I miss the most the 80s of my teen youth or my youth. I thought it be a lifetime til I reached 50 but it happened suddenly in what appears to be a mere few seconds. Enjoy your youth and seize every moment.
This was outstanding! As many have said awesome memories. I drove a 1968 Dodge Charger R/T to High School and having gone to Drive-In’s during the 70’s and early 80’s, I can attest those were incredible times. Classic muscle cars, tricked out custom cars and vans, dusk til dawn movie nights on long weeknds and so on. The younger generation doesn’t know what they’re missing. Great video and thank you for that flashback!
Your videos continue to evolve. This may be one of your best yet. There were times when I would leave a drive in theater and not have a clue what the movie was about.......ahhh the good old days. Thank you both for the blast from the past.
This brought tears to my eyes. My wife and I used to go to the drive-in almost every weekend. Around 2000, I had restored a classic Jaguar e-type roadster and we took that for many years. The manager and staff got to know us and we were always greeted at the ticket booth and asked if we were having the usual nachos with extra cheese and jalapenos? The intermission film was a classic. Our drive-in used the platter system where the film was spliced together on a huge platter so they didn't have to do changeovers like in the old days. One time the manager found an old reel from the changeover days and gave it to me. Sadly it closed in 2009 and is now another strip mall.
I wish you and your wife could still go to the drive in together! I can tell your time together will always be considered special. We're really glad you liked our video. Thanks so much for watching!
What seems like a million years ago when I was a kid and lived way out in the country it was a huge deal to make the trip to the drive in 45 miles away in my family's Mercury Comet station wagon. One of the best parts was always going to Kenestons drive in restaurant right before the entrance and eating whole clams. Once we got to the drive in we would jump out and play on the play ground equipment right in front of the screen so the parents could keep an eye on us. One huge event that made a huge impact on me was going to the movie Cleopatra and a thunder storm rolled in that was rocking the car, lightning hit the screen and half of it fell over. I think that was the last time we went to the drive in. :)
Wonderful video brought back many wonderful memories of childhood in the 60s and being a teenager in the seventies I love the drive-ins as I loved them back in the day. Such a wonderful experience so much more than a movie but socializing especially during the time that we have all experienced over the past two years and continue to experience of being isolated from one another. Long live the drive-in experience more than a movie.
Appreciate the compliment so much! Check our channel, we've got two more drive in videos! One is a six screen(er)...the other is a creepy car cruise! Thanks for the visit!
Loved the video! Our local drive-in just closed down last week after over 20 years of running continuously (it had been operating under a few different names from the 50s to the 80s) but it's been some comfort looking at videos like this and seeing that the drive-in experience isn't gone yet.
This is the Drive-In where my wife and I were married. Georgetown is hard to beat. If you haven't visited the Skyline in Shelbyville, IN, you really should put it on your list. Another great Indiana that hoists Dusk till Dawn shows throughout their season!
I realize this is a bit late, but this video brought back so many wonderful memories. You are so right, the ambiance at a Drive-in was like no other. I used to love the hot dog doing tricks then jumps into the bun. 3 minutes to go till showtime! It was all so iconic and so much fun! As a little kid I LOVED the Drive-in, as a teenager/young adult the Drive-ins were a place where you could be alone together. Your gal, your youth, and well some heh heh...fun. all kidding aside, even us buddies would head out on a Friday or Saturday night. Meeting people AT the Drive-in was also a blast. Thank you for the blast into the past. The 41-Twin Drive-in on 27th Street was my favorite place. The 24-Outdoor was second. Both were amazing and both hold many wonderful memories. Sadly the 41-Twin was torn down in 2000-01. There's a demolition video on TH-cam and it HURT to watch. Anyway THANK YOU! Just Subscribed, love the channel!
You obviously enjoyed drive-ins as much as we have in the past. Really nice to read your story, It makes our video feel even that more special to us. What a fantastic experience. I've always wanted to go to a drive-in. Can't believe this one has been around for so long. That's great. Thanks for sharing your beautiful memories. With the changing times, I can definitely see drive-in-movie theaters making a comeback. What a fun date night. Let's all go to the Lobby.......loved the video. 👍#8

Glad to see you bought all your snacks at the concession stand. Without the food sales Drive in theaters are not able to remain open. Thank you for your support of our industry. Was nice to see you both have a great experience.
@@OffRampAdventures Thank you both for taking time to show others what a unique and fun family experience we offer at Drive -in theaters. Seeing folks like you have a good time makes all our work quite rewarding. Maybe next time you and your Lady will get a chance to try the swings. ;-)
Great video. I just filmed the remains of the Starlite Drive-in in Durham and it ran from the 60's to the 80's and the old concession building had the original art on it. I was blown away that people didn't ruin it with graffiti.
@@OffRampAdventures our is always packed, everyone has a great time. Great concession stand as well. Tibbs Drive In, Indianapolis. Thanks for showing us some other places.
OMG that was an awesome Video . Thanx for sharing you Drive-IN Experience . The rippled screen is replacing the old outdated flat screens in many Drive-Ins as the patch work repairs are showing wear n tear . The rippled screen gives a better presentation and if needed to be repaired or partly replaced it is not as noticeable , Also gives the picture some depth in presentation . Getting to a Drive-In is important to get a good spot , a bit to eat and relax before the show . Outside food is best kept outside as up to 60% of the ticket sales goes back to the Movie Company , sometimes as high as 90% . Most Drive-Ins are run by the owner and that cuts down in wages and the more you spend at the concession stand the more you help the Owner stay open for more families to enjoy in the future . Thanx for supporting your local Drive-In , Enjoy your night , Have a safe drive home and God Bless
Oh, I miss drive-ins. Used to go in Ottawa back in the 70s. We don't have them here in the UK as it rains too often. The little speaker in the car, the heater in winter, the steam car exhausts pooling around the hillocks, the walk to the concession stand, the smell of hot dogs and popcorn....thank you for this.
Guys, I really enjoyed this video 🥰 Would you believe Georgetown Drive in Georgetown, Indiana is where I had my very first car date with a boy when I was sweet 16.❤
That's the Georgetown Drive-In in Indiana (right across the Ohio River west of Louisville, KY). I wish they would bring back the elephant ears and the older movies. That screen at 2:04 came from the Kenwood Drive-In, which was located in southwest Jefferson County, south of Louisville. They closed almost a decade ago, which was a shame, as they were right behind the Kenbowl Bowling Alley. At least the movie screen didn't go to waste.
@TheRealNormanBates...Thank you. I've been searching for the location of this screen for ten minutes now. We still have a couple theatres in the Pennsylvania area. The first time that I read your reply, I thought that you said Kennywood, not Kenwood.
We still have the our Ford Drive-in theater here in metro Detroit that we go to. To pass the time, we would toss the Frisbee or play at the playground. The cool thing is it changed very little since I was a kid.
Brings back so many good memories. Drive-in movie theaters are so cool. Thanks for sharing. New sub here. (#24) We may need to find a drive in to work into our videos. What a great idea. Safe travels and good luck with your channel. John and Bev
I am of the generation that enjoyed weekend trips to the local drive-in theater with the family. Actually we had two that were very close to us. Old school fun. Another great video on this one. I remember those intermission cartoon ads. Brought back some great memories this video. Thanks! Sadly no more drives where I live in the San Fernando Valley of Southern CA. There is one like 60miles away from me now. The only one left that I know of within miles. None left in all of Los Angels County or even Ventura county. I'd doubt if there is even more than 5 drive-ins left in all the entire state of CA.
Property values increased, though drive-ins were making money, when the cities expanded they were sold to build Wal-Mart, strip malls etc. Drive-Ins are open only in the evening, and mostly about 6 months a year, leaving potential income generating property dormant for much of the time.
