The start of the worst practices but also the last of the good era of the industry
It's crazy because this is the first year in gaming that I distinctly remember. I'm sure there are kids just getting into gaming youtube now the way I did in 2012 and watched videos about GameCube era games around 2002. Very odd sense of nostalgia here

That was such a golden year for me, the Walking Dead game introduced my friends and I to Choose Your Own Adventure games and Slenderman introduced many others to Horror games

Loving this video! Though I gotta disagree with you on the "not wanting to play Triple A titles on the go" . . .I'd argue that the success of the Steam Deck shows that people really DO want to play their library of games (as well as emulating their console games) on the go.
Thanks! I can see it from that perspective. When talking about powerful games on the go, I think it's more fitting to say most people would prefer to play big games on an actual home PC or console as opposed to a handheld.
He’s kinda right. If you know you only have maybe less than an hour to game, people are most likely to play the quick hitters like an online multiplayer game or something that doesn’t have intensive story focus. It would be like watching a movie or anime and only being able to get through 1 episode or 30 minutes of it
I find it quite ironic that I just got done playing far cry 3 again and the thumbnail has Vaas 💀
Man, the 2012 was truly remarkable gaming for me. The Pokemon Black and White 2, the sequel one, was defidnetly amazing game i have ever played. It still hold really well to me and the Gen V was argubaly the greatest period of my life, also around i fell in love with Oshawott that is still my favorite Pokemon to this day.

Gaming in 2012 was playing a lot of Call of Duty 4 on a custom map called Winter Crash. Also Battlefield Play4Free, a bit rough on visuals but you could drive tanks and even fly helicopters, while your buddy in 2nd seat was mowing down every sorry soul in sight. Awesome times!

New Super Mario Bros. U + New Super Luigi U was a great game. It was really well-made and tons of fun.

I’m expecting Black Ops 2 to be in part 2 😩 it’s the most respected game in entire COD franchise even more so than the original mw2. Also borderlands 2, ac3, and Minecraft for console. Maybe ashura’s wrath and sleeping dogs as well. Wow 2012 was such a great time to be a gamer

For some odd reason I watched part 2 first. I think another thing that hurt the PS Vita was also the fact that the 3DS was out and that sold pretty well. I mean it doesn't compare to the original Nintendo DS in terms of sales but that I think was a factor too. It kind of goes with what you said about smartphones. People didn't need a PS Vita to play on the go so they didn't feel the need for spending that kind of money and I think I'm also heard that maybe was expensive to make games for the console so it was hard for there to be much of a game library in the first place.
In my hometown of Santa Rosa I was literally the first person at Target to get a Wii U because I just kept expecting that it was going to be like when the Wii came out 6 years before when it was impossible to get one unless you stayed overnight in front of the store at the front of the line of people who are staying overnight, but no with the Wii U there was hardly anybody there to get one. It definitely have me thinking about how different it was and of course it was a sign of things to come as the Wii U was a big-time failure.
In the amount of time the Dreamcast existed the Wii U actually sold fewer copies but then Wii U was able to exist longer than that on the market so it was able to sell more than the Dreamcast but the fact that it was selling less than it in the same amount of time definitely tells you something.
Hey. I’m back from 3 months ago from trying to name 5 pvita games. I have come up with
None. I can’t name even a single one that I know of.
This was a bit of a waist of 3 months for me however It’s brought a new appreciation to life, after finaly comming to terms with the fact that the vita had no memorable games for me, I still have to remember the friends I’ve made along the way. The “dark stalkers, oh wait that was psp!” And the “ twisted mtal, of wait that was psp also!” And lastly the “Mario kart, oh wait that was my ds!”
It turns out there was so much to be thankful for, and I just had to look back to truly appreciate it. So thank you ps vita. You may not have memorable games for me, but you’ve brought back plenty of other good memorable games from other consoles.

I want to say as a Vita owner, the system is amazing and I mostly blame the smartphones for its demise. But believe me, there are games for it and I can name 5 exclsuives plus more off the top of my head.
1. Uncharted Golden Abyss (and to address your whole "it's supposed to be short and sweet when you pick up and play; some of the chapters in it are really short. Like 5 minutes or less short. It was built around only playing in short bursts...)
2. Killzone Mercenaries
3. Unit 13
4. Freedom Wars
5. Soul Sacrifice
And those are the games that are still exclusive to the platform to this day and has not been ported.
You also have:

It had a lot and plus you have all of the Japan games like the Nep series for example.
And plus, you also had a huge support from Limited Run in the later years, printing physical copies of indie games that most likely wouldn't get physical releases, but now the game can be preserved.
Overall, you had over 300 games released physically at least in North America for it. More if you count Japan...
And if you can get into the modding scene. You can play a pretty sweet version of Mario Kart and even get the GTA Trilogy running it.
Plus you had option of playing PSP games (Digital only), PS1 games (digital only of course), use it for your mp3s, your photos, and even import mp4's from your PS3 and and your PC. Plus remote play. Limited on PS3 and mostly accessible on PS4. It's a great handheld to this day an I find myself using it more than my Switch. At least Vita didn't take 5 years (and counting) to get some damn themes...
Oh and I also love the Wii U too... Breath of the Wild is great on there. And to be specific, there is little difference between the two versions unlike how Twilight princess was when it released on two systems. The only major difference is it loads faster on Wii U but it runs slightly smoother on Switch...

My most fondly remembered game from 2012 is Dragon's Dogma.
As much as I see the criticism (trust me, the battery lasts for like 2 min) I really enjoyed the wii u and the eshop... Ooooh it was so good.

The way you described of what you use a handheld for kinda hurts, but in a good way.
See, I used my Vita as a Triple A player for years on end riligiously. So seeing the Steam Deck announced...yeah, let's just say I found my life-long dream. And whilst the Vita's fate along with me kinda moving on is sad, at least it holds a bright future for handhelds now.
But for others, I understand that not everyone is into chopping cyborgs into hamburgers in Metal Gear Rising whilst on the bus...or taking a dump.
Either way, the Vita was way ahead of its time.

Gamers do want to play AAA games on a portable, it’s why handheld PCs have gained ground. SteamOS’s quick resume makes many games suitable for relatively short gaming sessions.

In my opinion 2011 was better year had games like portal 2, as you mentioned psp and many other things that were revolutionised like official release of minecraft or many deadmau5 songs etc

They were awesome xbox360 and nintendo 3ds!!

The vita failed as sony failed to develop software and support devs for it. Such a shame. I love my original 1000 vita i got in 2012.
