Also u need to re loom at this printer as theyve fixed almost all the issues u had. Manual build plate control. Slow moving plate. Just remove the auto resin thingy. 2 click print function with a preview of sliced file..no more forced cloud things. Much updated UI. Fep film etc etc. Unless youve already done a video..

    I am new to 3D printing. It's been 2 months since I started doing it. I focused my mind and spirit on the art of 3D printing. 3D printing has been occupying all my free time and beyond as I learn and experiment. I'm following nearly 50 TH-cam channels. Thank you for maintaining honesty in your videos. I began with a FlashForge Adventure 3 FDM printer. Nice printer, but it wasn't for me. I moved on to the Elegoo Mars 3 resin printer and tore up on my 3rd print and I returned it.
    So, I bought the Halot Mage (not the pro version). To me, it outdid the other two printers. But the more I tried to tweak it to get better results, the more I realized how restrictive the printer was. Back to the drawing board. I popped off well over two dozen decent prints with the Halot Mage before returning it for the pro version. Then, I saw your video of the disaster you had. Jumping onto Amazon, I tried to return it, but the printer had already shipped.
    Deciding to try it since I have 30 days to return it, I opened it up. Thanks to your video, I avoided several pitfalls. First of which was the spout on the pump. If you put the vat in without paying attention to the pump spout, it can be out of place and catch the build plate. Giving it a nudge in with a finger as you put the vat on and rechecking it after installation will ensure you don't break it. The spout needs to be tight against the back of the vat for it to be seated correctly. If the spout moves, you need to reinstall the vat.
    The video also helped me navigate the Cretan Labyrinth of the on-screen menus. Thanks to you, I loosened the screws prior to bed leveling, and I knew which buttons to push to level the bed.
    You also helped me out when downloading my files to print. The scrolling screens were dizzying. A tip to help with trying to find the actual print: Remove the flash drive after downloading, and it will be the only one available on the screen (courtesy of The Outer Circle channel on TH-cam).
    While I don't possess the Creality fast resin, I have the 8k high precision resin. 1.2 second exposure times per layer are resulting in excellent outcomes. At 1.6 seconds per layer, I get better outcomes.
    A few more things (apologies for the length). The June 19th, 2023, update fixed some issues. None of my prints have locked up, and I can slow the bed down. Go back and give the Halot Mage Pro another try. I think it is turning out to be a great printer for miniatures even with the quirks, like trying to install the vat and the crazy menu navigation.
    Last thing, you have helped me decide on my next printer. As soon as I save up my pennies, GKTwo here I come. I will be keeping the Halot Mage Pro.

    I think the real test of any company is how it deals with something when things go wrong if they take on board your issues and go back and look at them and rectify them, even if it is just a case of you've got a dodgy Printer and send you a different one to test (it happens ) or updating the software to improve the UI and freezing. then its shows that they want to improve and be the top brand to buy. hopefully, you'll find out soon .

      It looks like a lot of the bugs are the advanced features being poorly integrated. I have a standard halot mage and it has been great so far. Build plate moves at a standard speed, no auto fill things to worry about, and on my UI I can step the build plate up and down and home it just like any other msla printer I use. Also I think the flipped zero reference is because they have the optical limit switch on the top, unlike the elegoo machines which have it at the bottom. Thus in the code the top is now the zero ref. Also my UI has not been buggy or glitchy, although I have only been using the USB to print. I also seem to have images along with the files and my printer does not copy files over, which I don’t think I would really care for anyway. Just writing this post to say to people looking at the pro, maybe just look at the standard one that doesn’t try to incorporate all these flashy features that all come with new failure points and complexity

      The UI never froze up on me during use or gave me grief and I printed a lot with the Mage Pro the last few weeks. So maybe I got lucky, or maybe you got unlucky. Well, there is a lot of unintuitive things in this machine and things that can go wrong are quickly adding up for it adds a lot of features but these little features can break it and they are layering up ontop of each other, i am not sure this machine is for everyone, or at least, not amateur for sure, you have to have a maintenance and verification checklist before you do any "move" with it wich makes it, for sure, non casual friendly, despite the brand being usually casual friendly, there is a few casual friendly features on this one but they almost need the minutia of a half engineer to make sure every steps are not breaking critical parts of the printer.

  • @Groundeffected
    @Groundeffected ปีที่แล้ว +9

    That’s crazy. I had none of these issues not a single one. I made sure to prepare the build plate and vat carefully before I leveled and sure it was mental fast but it wasn’t any issue. And my nozzle has never broken I made sure to click it in place when I replace the vat. Also I didn’t have a single failure on that machine I was given the fast resin though. And the details I got were fantastic for the speeds it prints. I printed a whole 1/6th scale spiderwoman standing on a traffic light… in less than 5 hrs. Printed 10 minis in an hour and a half. Yes the ui could be a bit less clunky but I’m an idiot with computery things and I managed to deal with it fairly easily. I think you were a bit harsh on this one to be honest. But my experience was very different, I actually really enjoyed that machine and wish I had more fast resin to use in it as that is what it’s meant for in my opinion. Smash models out stupid fast for those who are impatient.

      @FauxHammer  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SecapIII you may not realise but that video was created after they saw all the issues I've had.
      Also, they all tell you to use a levelling paper
      Most of us resin printers have progressed beyond that to skipping the levelling paper and just levelling it with the VAT in, since the point of the paper is to emulate the thickness of the FEP - Just Use the FEP that's already at the bottom of the vat.
      Regardless of whether the vat is in or out, the Build plate still needs clearance to lift without touching the Nozzle and breaking it.

  • @JustTryGambling
    @JustTryGambling ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Your issue with the exposure might be due to the power of the uv lamp. I’ve noticed on several printers coming out that the uv lamps get more and more powerful. And it’s gotten to a point where they’re just trying to flash cure the resin which doesn’t really work right as I’ve found it needs to “cook” so to speak to get proper adhesion and exposure. I’m working on a device to override uv power values on these proprietary boards that they won’t let us modify.

    • @FauxHammer
      @FauxHammer  ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope, it's the speed. Reducing light I density would require longer exposure times and soften the detail of the print, but it would still lift far too fast

    • @JustTryGambling
      @JustTryGambling ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FauxHammer Yes, the speed of the printer is a function of movement speed and cure time among other things. We might be talking about two different issues here as I also think the shear speed of this printer is an issue as well. I have found that a high intensity light does in fact cure faster, but increases the effect of light bleed and blooming. This effect can be seen in less pigmented resins the easiest. Perhaps its also an effect of the type of light source used and it's linearity. I'm not exactly sure yet. Coming from a lower power creality machine to a more powerful anycubic machine has meant disastrous results for me in regards to light bleed and dimensional accuracy and I see the same sort of effect in other similar printers. The creality machine needed longer cure times and produced a more dimensionally accurate print with less of a glossy "bled" surface and more of a matte finish. The anycubic machine cures in half the time but the prints are not dimensionally accurate and have intense bleed through the rear of the object on thin walls and has a more glossy "bled" surface due to heavy blooming. Perhaps I'm wrong but everything I've tested seems to support my theory. It would be nice if someone bigger than myself with more resources could test with multiple resins including translucent. So far I have added UV blocking pigment to mitigate this effect, and it has improved significantly, but it has not fixed the issue.

None of the issues at all. Just starting minis and trying to figure out a good resin to use

    Actually the UI is just Halot OS that is same or very similar in other Halots that you've mentioned to be good and the first downloaded model gets a different icon than files on USB stick. It's just very different from standard chitu firmwares. I've sent feedback regarding lack of incremental Z movement options already in few surveys 😂 The "not so smart" motor algorithm looks quite scary though.

    One of the problems that I see here is the improper attitude of the manufacturer to the material. Such high speeds require not only the correct exposure ratio but also a special resin formulation for printing. You can't just take the same resin and print several times (or dozens of times) faster. For such high-speed printers, Creality must develop the appropriate material!
    In any case, thanks for the honest and informative review of the new Creality machine!!!

    • @Konradius001
      @Konradius001 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's even worse. A customer can not be forced to only use those resins. The software must allow to print other resins as well, if only for different colors and transparency options. It's just having settings for a slower speed than 60mm/min!

I have watched numerous viedoes and so far rejected the topic for stink and other inconviniencies. I guess the various manufacturers have meanwhile recognized the nuissance and they do their best to fix it. The Halot Mage Pro seems like a good candidate, but I need a little more than Creality telling me that this is a good printer.
    Starting watching this video, I at first thought of just another guy letting off steam. But, I meanwhile believe that Mr. Fauxhammer exposes a whole lot of common sense, and a true practical understanding of the matter. So, not ignoring a current sale, I am going for this printer.

    Lots of new printers coming from Elegoo over next few days. Hope you get to review one of the new Saturn 3s. Now here's my two pennies worth. Are we getting to hung up on all this 8k, 12k cr*p. From normal viewing distances can you really see a difference with the naked eye or do you need a macro lens and an UHD screen to see the difference. Basically are people, myself included, just getting caught up in all the hype? As part of my job as a delivery driver for John Lewis we have to set up tvs for customers. Loads of people a year or two back were buying 8k tvs. We were setting them up and they would ask to see 8k content. Then there's a bit of an awkward silence when we had to tell them that there isn't anything broadcast in 8k yet. We then have to go onto TH-cam to find some to demo it.

    The detaching resin dispenser filler looks quite frightening and the lack of possibility to reduce the print speed does not sound optimistic.

    I feel like taking 2 minutes to read the manual would have prevented the leveling into foam issue. From an engineering design standpoint I cannot understand how the plate got under the nozzle in the first place. It all sounds like you got a pre production sample and are mad about the kinda things that happen to many pre production machines. When the people testing prototypes are the same team that designed it things go unnoticed. They probably were doing something that prevented the plate from hitting the bed possibly subconsciously. Very few companies ever test outside of a controlled environment and the real world is anything but.
    I got an ender 3 years ago when they were still considered the new hotness. A month later I start seeing people talk about how one of the connectors sometimes overheats and burns. Enders have come a long way since then. Wouldn’t surprise me if this gets fixed in 4-5 months

Now with this review of course it's not worth all the trouble just for speed, but the question is, does anyone have experience with the simple Halot Mage? 70mm/hr for the same resolution seems fine to me, plus it doesn't have resin pumping so that nozzle wouldn't be a problem.

    The non-pro version has a way different UI and so far has been way less of a hassle than you hit - I'm guessing they've made some software tweaks since launch. The fep sucks out of the box - had a leak and it pretty much requires some lube to ensure no snags. My only big complaint currently is the wildly inaccurate layer times in lychee vs. the reality of this thing. I'm still playing with the speeds, but so far there is a disconnect/unaccounted for slowness in the transition between lift and lower that is adding a huuuge chunk of total time to the build. I took a chance with HM, and I'm kinda wishing I stayed with my Elegoos - the whole thing just feels like they rushed it out the door rather than addressing a few design issues.

      dont listen to this confused man. i bought the halot mage pro 8k and its perfectly fine. works out of the box, with normal resin. i dont know what he is doing, but if you not like 5 year old, and take a little bit care, you wont destroy anything, i dont know how this can happen. also the filter fits well, and everything is in place. so if you are not a no-hands, this product is perfectly fine! and maybe dont use 5 year old resin, thats broken anyways lol. or the cheap one from aliexpress is propably also not the best choice. this video makes me angry, to think that ppl will not buy this super printer, just because he is disabled.

    Saturn 3 ultra or is the m5s actually good enough to pick over
    The saturn 3? I just don't know what to do lol i have 2 smaller anycubics the 4k and mono 2 but when i got my saturn 2 8k the build quality its just unbelievable compared to anycubics and its so smooth the motor's and the weight i love it makes it feel more premium aswell than a light empty box with a bulb! Genuine question though as needing a second larger printer to
    Replace these smaller anycubics

      @@FauxHammer Ross, speaking of that list, there's just too damn many new printers out there, I was already lost as to what to get next, and after the last month or two...WTF? I do currently have a Mars 2 Pro. I'm going to be printing mostly miniatures, *cough 10th edition *cough*. Also some basing texture rollers, but terrain will most likely be on my FDM printers. So DLP to get that long lifespan or 9K for detail and speed? With both resin and filament now supported, and if it matters, I'll likely use Lychee as my slicer. So oh great guru of resins, what do you think?

      @@S.A.S.H. I think get Lychee out of your head straight away... Uuse it, definitely use it. but only for supporting your models. when done, export the model from Lychess as an STL and slice it in whatever application came with the printer. I have had so many issues with Lychee when slicing models that i never use it to do the slicing anymore. You do you, but I hope you an trust me on this enough to take that extra stepin your prep process.
      Right. DLP is great. but. for the price of DLP machines, even the Mars 4 DLP, Which my Patrons got the review of yesterday. I think it's still too much money for what you get on that build size. A year ago DLP was OMG, but now as you say, we have 9k machines which have larger build areas, for a price much less than a DLP.
      Now. I haven;t tested these new machines, they take about speed a lot! and due to that it makes me worry they will have the same issue with High res resins that this does.
      Now in all honesty. when it comes to choosing a printer now, I'm confused! between what is out now and what is coming, I am trying to update that list and struggling... what sort of resin are you using. Becasue if you are using cheap resins. then it's unlikely you'll see any difference between any printers that are 35um pixels or smaller!
      So that's like the Mars 3!
      if you are pushing for more detail with the finer (typically more brittle) resins. then there will be an improvement as you drop down to 28um or even 22um pixels. but after Antiailisiinga nd image blur to remove layer and voxel lines. the difference is so tiny that you'll probably not notice unless you are looking under a macro lens....
      So honestly, start with your budget, and just pick the biggest printer you can get for that budget. below 35um
      The differences in price are usually just for convenience features. The difference in brands is typically user experience, with elegoo being the cheapest an most basic. Anycuboic being the low-mid range, and Phrozen pushing a better UI and sometimes build quality.

  • @phillipe.correia
    @phillipe.correia ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm sorry but the "leveling issues" you see would be solved with you reading the manual, which I assume it exists, at least there is one on their website, now of course you have experience on it, but if you are not reviewing a printer you have before you must assume they have differences, therefore a quick manual reading is needed.
    While true that the carbon filter should be srewed to the chassis on both ends, the inclination of it seems pretty obvious visually... Shouldn't happen, but could be noted before you drip resin on that, definitely an issue they should fix it. The vat has pretty clear limits to show where you should align it and what are the limits for it, and even if they were as bad as you claim, you should have noticed your vat isn't properly screwed in place, that is a really common error you don't expect from somebody with more experience...
    You go then complain that the print is just fast and that scares you that it could drive resin through the screen, well fast is kind of a selling point on the print, you wanted it to be fast, but you don't want it to be fast? I'm confused here, being able to print fast is exactly one of the reasons I was looking forward to this printer, and I kinda imagine that this would result in me having less of a possibility of do a "safe stop" to a print. That being said... you actually watch prints that take 4, 10, 18 hours to finish? I usually do not, and never had the chance to do these "safe stops" exactly because when they do happen I'm usually not watching, and if they actually happen is highly unlikely that you would be able to stop, which is why I think they added the extra tempered glass protection?
    As for all other points I 100% agree with you, this doesn't look like a properly QA tested printer...

    I got the normal mage printer and after 2 months the UV light has stopped working. Whole screen lights up, but just won't cure. That same resin taken straight from the vat cures fine with a UV torch. So strange, it completed the print before this issue with no problem and after sitting switched off for a few days it's just given up for no reason.
