Congrats on 4k. I love watching you gals. I get so many great ideas and inspiration. I think my best tip and one I have recommended to so many new knitters and crocheters is to join Ravelry. Besides access to so many patterns and purchasing stash yarn, reading others project notes has helped me on so many occasions.
Omg that’s a fabulous prize. Love the tips you shared. What I tell ppl is everyone can knit. It just takes patience. A warning… collecting yarn and knitting are two separate hobbies be mindful of your stash and accumulation of notions. It can get overwhelming
Great question. Tip, swatch, swatch please at least 4”x4” better 6”x6”. Sometimes you can’t match your gauge and needle size with whatever the designer gives in the pattern, that is ok. The most important thing before you start your project is to find the fabric that you like and then you can find the size that you need.
I recently taught myself to knit socks and this is my first ever knit project. What I would tell someone who has just started out…don’t get discouraged if you find yourself having to rip out your work when you make a mistake or don’t like it. It’s part of the journey and re-knitting it strengthens your skills.
Congrats on 4k subscribers. I think one of the more useful things, tips for me is the use of the row counter, using the ones from the twice sheared sheep. I don’t forget to click the clicker row counter or making a mark on a piece of paper.
Love your podcasts! So informative and fun. Good question🧶 my advice would be to relax and enjoy/like the first project you’re working on. As a warning advice I’d say it’s inevitable to make mistakes and it’s ok. Most things are ‘fixable’ if not you start again. ❤️ good luck to new knitters!
My tip is if one way of doing something, like holding yarn, doesn't work for you, try another way. Be patient with yourself. I tried throwing when first learned to knit. I didn't take off until I learned to knit with the yarn held in the opposite hand. Some things just make sense to our brains. Go with it!
When I learned I was a crochet first. I could not yet working with the two needles without the hook to grab the yarn . So I new basic knit and purl. I got big needles like number 10 and a ball of just whatever yarn. Cast it on like 15 stitches just did knit and purl until I ran out of yarn.. took it out did it again practice practice practice
Happy 4K! Congratulations! My tip is to start with a small simple project. Lots of how to videos on You Tube if you don’t have a LYS or know anyone to help you. I taught myself to knit socks on You Tube. Great podcast Ladies!
Congratulations on 4K!! My tip is to watch TH-cam. There are so many tutorials and podcasters that eventually you'll find your favorites. Watch My warning is don't get caught up in the fancy stuff. Hopefully you'll find a local yarn shop that will gently guide you through the process of slowly acquiring the extras.
Yay, 4K! 🎉 my advice is to start learning with forgiving animal fiber (aka a wool blend) not a cotton or a linen so your hands ache less and my warning is to avoid building a stash of gorgeous single fingering sock weight skeins if you don’t like to knit socks. ❤
Love you ladies🥰. My tip read through the entire pattern and follow the directions. If you do not understand sometimes you just need to follow the directions and the light bulb will go off💡
Congratulations on 4K! My advice would be to pick something that you like and pace yourself. If you want the item it will keep you motivated to finish it. My warning would be to buy items that are in your price range and get your tools slowly. When I started I was buying the needles and yarn that I needed for each project.
My tip/suggestion for a newbie is: Focus on completing your first project before you move on to additional cast on(s). Even though you may feel the urge to start additional projects, push on to finish your fist project! Soak in that wave of "completion satisfaction"! It will thrust you joyfully onward! 🙂❤
Tip: start with something small you feel comfortable with it looking back but you get the hang of knitting then bail if you want for a pretty yarn project. Caution: get comfortable tools to set yourself up for success
Congrats on 4K!🎉. My tip: use all mistakes as a learning tool, learning what not tondo is just as important as learning what to do. My warning: do not let anyone change you mind on color or patterns. You do what you will love!
Congratulations!! My tip - You can almost always find a tutorial on TH-cam for any stitch or technique. And love your yarn and your tools - there are truly so many fibers, weights, color treatments. Warning - knitting is practice, not perfect. 💕💕💕
Very inspired by all of the knitting you do. My tip is to start with a yarn you like. Warning is to take it slow. For me, I wanted to jump right into a big project but someone warned me to master knitting a row, then purling a row - and then k,p in the same row. This was so helpful and I ended up with some scarfs I still have.
My tip: Even if you're knitting more complicated projects at the start, be sure to "practice" by knitting all kinds of different dishcloths throughout the year. My favorite patterns are the Garter Stitch, the Waffle Stitch, the Eloominator Diagonally Knitted, Chinese Waves, and Seed Stitch. These can only strengthen knitting tension and technique.
Ooh, my Tip would be to work within your budget because there are beautiful yarns in all price points and if what your working with makes you happy then keep on doing it! My warning would be to set a yarny budget because all yarn crafts are addicting, once you start you probably won't want to stop!
Woohoo 4K! Tip: Start small. Maybe a basket stitch dishcloth so you can learn to read your stitches. And a dishcloth is usable even if it turns out wonky. Beware: Yarn or knitting snobs who poo poo your initial efforts. Make yourself happy. You do you! Bonus tip: If you lose your mojo, watch a podcast, peruse Ravelry, buy a new notion or an amazing skein.
Tip: aim to learn one or two things with each project when you first start. Your skills will grow faster than you realize! Warning: learn what direction the stitches are supposed to go. I accidentally twisted every stitch in my first few projects!
Congrats on 4K subscribers... If I were to give advise to beginner it would be learn with nice yarn, it doesn't have to be expensive but the quality of the yarn makes a difference in the enjoyment of making. The other thing I would suggest is don't worry too much about not being able to read your stitches, that takes a while... it took me a long time to read my stitches and I was able to make plenty of beautiful things by blinding following instructions...
One tip I would give would be to take a beginning knitting class for support. The warning I would give is to accept that your first project or two will have a few mistakes, and not be perfect. You will improve with time.
Congratulations! My tip ( which was not around when I started knitting) is TH-cam - you can look up a stitch or method and watch it over and over and over. No shame! I remember getting into my car and driving to the yarn shop, sometimes several times in one day for help. My warning is don't get caught up in building a stash. I bought so many skeins of yarn as a newbie and when I got around to trying to use them, I either had the wrong # or wrong weight etc. TRY to start out buying for what you are making, until you know enough to build a useable stash. Also it i meant to be fun, if frustrated try later on- don't make it work.
🎉 Congratulations to 4K subscribers.🎉 The short training talk in the beginning was intresting. My tip is : Hold in your abdominal muscles most of the day( not so hard that one loosing breath.) Good abdominal muscles give's a strong back too.And for both females and men's : Squeeze the muscles down under from the back and forwards. Makes all the difference.🤪 Wowsy wow your A. Mowry cardigan looks so stunning on you, Jen. Treat time everytime you three air. Heartly thx.💝🦋💝
When teaching new knitters to knit socks I suggest doing a vanilla sock pattern with worsted weight yarn and size US 8 needles. It’s easier to seethe stitches, you end up with a Christmas Stocking and there’s no 2nd sock syndrome. My warning would be be to not pick a dark yarn or white yarn for your first project - they make it harder to see your stitches.
I think my tip for a beginner knitter would be to learn to read your knitting. It wasn’t until I learned that that I really understood how knitting worked!
Great episode! My tip is to choose your first yarn wisely - something smoother and lighter is going to be easier to see. A similar warning is to stay away from super fuzzy and novelty yarn when starting.
Congratulations on hitting 4K! My tip for a new knitter would be to read your pattern instructions out loud. I’ve caught mistakes before I’ve done them several times this way.
My best tip… find a tribe. Even if it’s watching Chronicles of Yarnia and commenting. Join in person knit groups if you can or start your own 😁 warning: dont be afraid to rip and start over or rip and abandon. Take a breath and realize that even the best knitters rip rip rip.
Good Morning, My tip would be to use yarn that feels good. Of course price must be a consideration, but you use yarn that feels good while you are knitting, I feel you wlll have greater success. My warning is no warning. Lean in....knitting and crochet feels good, embrace and enjoy. Have a blessed day.
Congratulations on reaching 4K. My tip for new knitters is learn new techniques (cables, lace, intarsia, stranded colorwork, etc.) as you become excited about making a project these techniques can become intricate but you need to start somewhere.
Congrats on 4K! My tip: always try fixing a mistake instead of frogging back. Even if you end up deciding to frog in the end, you’ve learned a new technique. Warning: don’t overdo it in the beginning. Take breaks. No marathon knitting sessions. Stop knitting for a few days if any part of your body starts to hurt. If you love knitting so much you want to do it all day, you probably would like to do it for the rest of your life. Don’t jeopardize that by giving yourself a repetitive strain injury!
Congratulations on reaching 4k🎉 I so enjoy watching your podcast and the love of fiber crafting you share with us and with each other. My tip is to connect with the wide, wonderful knitting/crochet community through your LYS, social media and fabulous podcasts like this one😊 It is so reassuring to a newbie to hear the struggle, imperfections and problem solving that we all endure. My warning would be to understand that there will always be so many new patterns and projects out there but you cannot make them all! Pace yourself and learn to do what you love.
Thank you for another wonderful podcast. Congratulations on getting to 4,000. I would suggest new knitters start by using a mid-size hook or needle and light-colored yarn. I would encourage new knitters to ask for guidance at their local yarn shop. I would caution them not to get intimidated. The old adage applies: "no question is a dumb question". We were all beginners once. Karin
Congratulations 🎉🎉🎉 🎉 on 4K! My tip would be to try different types of needles before investing in a big set. Get advice from other knitters and maybe borrow some needles at first.
Congrats on 4K subscribers! My tip to a new crafter is to realize that it will take time and trying lots of things to find what works for you - yarn fiber, yarn weight, needles, tools, notions, etc. As you progress with your craft, your preferences will change, and that’s ok. 😊💕🌺🌵🌴
Great episode. Thank you for the great tips. I’m a fairly new knitter. My advise would be to practice the style of knitting that works best for you. I knit holding the yarn on my left hand but I purl holding the yarn on my right and throwing. As a warning have at least two or three wips to keep things interesting and fun. Happy knitting and crocheting. ❤
Tip: Don’t be afraid to make mistakes and use your resources, LYS, friends , family to ask questions and ask for help. Warning: you will make mistakes! It’s ok! It just means you get to try try again and learn. That is the best!
Congratulations on 4K🎉🎉🎉🎉 That’s super exciting!!!! My tip is don’t be afraid to make mistakes. They’re part of the learning process. My warning is that it can be addictive. LOL! What is the mistake you’ve made while crafting that taught you the most?
Congrats on 4K!! My tip for new knitters- it’s ok to take your knitting everywhere. You never know when someone else will see you knitting and a new friendship/knitting group is formed. My closest friends are knitters. My warning- if you have young kids or pets, teach them early, your knitting is off limits. Always knit something you want to knit too!!
🎉congrats! My advise would be to not be afraid to put some thing aside and come back to it. I started knitting so I could make socks. I love socks. I had a really hard time and stopped knitting entirely because I thought I would never get it. About 6 months went by and I picked up to knit a scarf. After doing my first sweater I gave sock another try and the first few didn't go well but eventually got the hang of it. Its ok to switch directions and come back awhile later.
Another tip is having the right quality tools ( and yarn) can make or break a project. It’s usually much better to have the right tools rather than forcing it
I always love your blog! My advice is, don’t be afraid to ask the questions, what is a beginner knitting or crocheting pattern. I find people are very helpful and would like you to be successful in your yarn project. I find “Make along” to be fun and helpful when you are making your yarn project.
My tip for beginner knitters is that it’s just yarn. Don’t be afraid to try new things because it’s just yarn-it’s ok to take it out if you don’t like it. It took me a long time to learn that but my knitting changed after I did.
Tip : when learning how to knit, try multiples ways to place and hold your yarn and soon, one will stand out and be your favorite. Warning : don’t use very dark colors while learning to knit, the fabric is much easier to read and see with the lighter colors.
My tip is to use a lifeline often at the beginning. My warning is don’t buy random yarn because it’s on sale. You will end up with a stash very quickly that you might not love to knit with.
Congratulations on 4K🎉🎉🎉🎉 way to go! My advice to new knitters Don't hesitate to say No to gift knitting, only you can decide if you want to spend time, energy and yarn for someone else than yourself. As a beggining tip use markers for anything important in the pattern (short rows w&t, m1l/m1r, cables stitches), don't try to figure out on your next row what is going on and where. Mark it, make it simple and clear for yourself ❤
Tip: learn on circs even for knitting flat. Warning: Don’t be afraid of purling. Knit and purl equal amounts at the start. I never shied away from purling because of that advice from my knitting teacher. And for my fellow lefties. Don’t worry about English style until you want to do color work with 3 or more colors.
My tip would be find a group of fiber artists to socialize with, knit crochet, Loom with. A LYS is a great resource. My warning would be don't be stuck on perfection, fiber arts should be enjoyable and relaxing.
My tip is to use circular needles instead of straights even if knitting flat. I think people get frustrated with the straight needles especially the longer ones.
Happy 4K! Y advice is simply to support your local yarn shop. It seems as if they are disappearing at an alarming rate.ost shops have things ranging in prices. Support their classes. I have found that I learn new things with every class and I have been knitting for over 50 years
Hip knit hooray on 4 k! My tip is to use a nice bouncy wool yarn and wooden needles so your stitches don't slip off too easy. My warning is don't strangle your stitches so it's easier to knit the next row. I love your podcast. Your tips for picking colors are fabulous Amanda!
Congratulations on 4k!🎉 My tip is, try to add a new technique with each project. Mastered garter stitch? Try stockinette. Wash cloths are a great way to do this as they are small and have tons of different patterns with tons of techniques. My warning, don’t compare yourself to others especially if you watch a lot of TH-cam. It will kill your joy. Work at your own pace and do what you like. After all, hobbies are supposed to be fun. 😊🥰
Congrats on 4K ladies!!🎉 One tip I would give new knitters is don't feel that you have to knit the latest patterns or what everyone on social media is knitting. Knit what makes you happy!❤
Another great episode! My tip for new knitters would be that in general all mistakes are fixable whether it's something simple like a dropped stitch or something more major that requires a portion to be ripped out it can be fixed and you most likely will learn so much from the fixing. My warning would be not to pick a pattern or technique that is too complicated for a while or it could be very discouraging.
Congratulations on 4k!! The tip I give beginners of most crafts is to just set 15 minutes a day to practice the same technique. I used this when I started back knitting after a 10 year break. I have also used it when I started to use finer yarns and smaller needles so my hands would adjust to the feel and movements for size 1 needles vs size 9 needles. When I started knitting socks on 9” circulars it took me almost the entire 30 days feel comfortable.
Cannot wait to watch Amanda's blanket grow. What a project! Tip for a new knitter: Find yarn that is inspiring, feels good in your hands, but is reasonable for your budget. Warning: Don't let others tell you what is good yarn/bad yarn. Knit what feels good and fits your budget.
My tip is keep knitting! That's what my first instructor said to me....practice always helps so keep knitting. Your second sweater will be better than your first and as you go you continue to improve.
🎉 congrats 🎉. Some advice I'd give .. Don't get discouraged, frustration can and will often occur, when I learned to crochet I was determined to be consistent in my tension for the chain before progressing to learn other stitches but perfection is not necessary. I tried to knit countless times for 20 years and it finally clicked. Don't be afraid to try again and don't limit yourself or your success on a setback that may have occurred cuz when u focus on those "holds" you won't move forward. We all learn different and I tried it all I feel. Watching it on TH-cam, people live in front of me, reading, looking at charts, noting it in handwriting or drawing pictures. It may take time, but be patient with yourself.
This question is amazing. The best tip my grandmother ever gave me is to enjoy the process. I was 6 years old when she taught me and every day I made a "square" she would ask me hiw my guage was. then ripped out my sample ... and I did it again...and again ..and again... I never may have loved that part, but now, 50 years later, I can count on my tension . The warning.. be you! If you don't like the HOT pattern .. you do not have to make it. If you love how the big box store yarn feels, use it. There are no yarn police! Have fun!!
My tip is to not let people, including family, make you feel that your knitting isn't valued. It isn't just a way to while away your time. It can combat depression and it works your brain muscles. It's helped me with my math solving immensely.
Congratulations on 4k subscribers! That's so exciting :) My tip for a beginner knitter would be to notice the difference between how a knit and a purl stitch looks, and also how that looks different depending on the kind of stitch below it. I remember figuring this out myself knitting a giant "stockinette" swatch that became garter stitch and reverse stockinette at different points and the lightbulb moment of oh a knit and a purl are kind of the same thing but from opposite sides. So I definitely second the recommendation to make practice swatches you intend to rip out. The warning: one ball of yarn you don't have a plan for is not a bargain, even when it's on sale. There are so few things you can make with just one ball of yarn and it's so easy to end up with lots of odds and ends that you don't know what to do with.
Congratulaions on 4K, I love watching. my tip for new knitters (crochet), is to use your local yarn store to help you. I started knitting slowly and went to my yarn store for help, they were wonderful, and assisted with pattern choices for a beginner. I was not pressured into buying. I would try to go whenever I didn't understand stitches, and without fail the owner helped. He also told what days and times were less busy, so he could help me more. I'm so grateful to have a store not to far away.
My advice for a new knitter is to run to your LYS and bypass the big box stores. Your LYS will be enjoy helping you decide on yarn and needles because they want you to be successful and come back for your second project. Good advice is priceless. My warning would be for your first project to stay away from black or any extremely dark yarn for a beginner. It’s hard to work with without having very good lighting and very good eyes.
Jenn, I noticed you were knitting and throwing the yarn with your thumb. I found this very interesting is this a particular style of knitting I’d like to see a close-up view in the last couple of years. I’ve tried to teach myself to knit with a Norwegian pin and using this Method. you do throw with your thumb.
When I’m teaching new knitters I get them to knit and purl on 50 sts back and forth till they get their tension down packed . Once they are ready I usually get them to knit a bulky hat which to me is much easier to frog back when mistakes are made and a quick project.
Congratulations on the 4K My tip would be to not give up it's okay to make mistakes, and you will get there! My warning: Don't pick a pattern that is too complicated .
This conversation about Amanda's blanket was mind-blowing. I love the way you casually mention you added "12 colors to the rowan line up for Amanda's blanket". can't wait to watch that thing grow.
Woohoo - congrats on reaching 4000! My tip for beginners would be to pick yarn that you like the feel of. I started with acrylic and almost stopped because the yarn I chose was squeaky! One warning would be to remember to take breaks. The first time we try something new we're likely using new muscles. It's easy to be obsessed with knitting or crochet because it's so awesome but if you push yourself too far you may have to pause longer while your hands or wrists recover!
Hi Kathleen, Jen and Amanda, Congradulations on reaching 4k ! Thanks for another inspiring and enjoyable podcast! My tip to new knitters is to have fun and enjoy the process. Knit several rows then purl ...practice....practice. Frogging is just fine! TH-cam tutorials are most helpful, and you can watch tutorials over and over! The basic hat pattern is a good first project (Ross Hat , free pattern on Raverly). Happy Knitting!
Tip: place knitting or crochet project in a bag if you have pets or small children or grandchildren. Warning: get needle stoppers and never place on project on couch and sit on them!!!! They will either break or hurt you….
Amanda, your new crocheted art piece is going to be amazing. I am looking forward to seeing your progress as it all comes together. My tip is similar to what you all said. Have patience with yourself and manage expectations. Know that if you are not happy with the fit, or pattern, you can frog the piece and the yarn can be used again in a different pattern that will suit you and the yarn better. A warning would be to start with commercial yarns that may not require quite the financial investment. There are a lot of great commercial yarns that are more affordable than the more expensive yarns we see online through IG or TH-cam. As a new knitter get comfortable with the craft and be sure you will wear and enjoy your knits before spending a lot of money.
My beginner tip: If you like knitting once you start, (just buy a single circular in size for your first project in size suggested) then invest in a good interchangeable wood or metal needle sets, TRY a FRIENDS in different materials-bamboo, carbon, nickel coated brass metal with very sharp pointy tips (Hiya Hiya) and more blunt tip but great cables -Chiao Goo prior to buying. My beginner don’t: DON’t skip making a “large enough” swatch and wash and block it, before making any garment. It gives you practice and it allows you to see and feel the fabric you are getting with that needle size. Invaluable information.
Congratulations ladies🎉🎉🎉 There are many wonderful tips for new knitters already given. My tip is for everyone - when you get tired/ bored with a project - knit one or two rows on the project everyday and then move on to a project you are more excited about knitting. You will eventually finish the project, without too much drudgery.
Congratulations to all of you with 4K subscribers. WOW! My tip would be take your time to plan your knits- and dont be afraid to ask the experts. Your LYS is your best resource for Knitting and if you dont have a local store email Yarnia, or call them. They've been a big help to me. Ravelry is another resource. Look for your project identify A) how many other projects have been made B) what types of yarn was suggested by the designer and what was used by others C) What types of modifications have others used and perhaps its a technique you may want to add to your project D) Look at the color choices others have used and plan your colors. Best of Luck with all your knits.
i love this weeks question. I recently taught someone to knit and she did this and found it very helpful.Tip: buy beautiful yarn for your first project, something that will make your heart sing and your hands crave more AND at the same time, keep a swatch handy with some crappy yarn so that when you get to something that you want to practice before you put it in your project, you can just practice that 1 stitch on your swatch before returning to your project to put it in the project. My warning: don't see frogging as a bad thing. Get excited to frog your projects and see it as the yarn talking to you about what it what it wants to be and your role as the creator making it happen. I learned to embrace frogging during the pandemic and i frogged garments i wasn't wearing that were 20 years old! that wool then got converted into beautiful things i love and wear all the time.
My tip would be that knitting is a skill, not a talent. It is practice that develops muscle memory and a willingness to keep expanding your repertoire of stitches and techniques. Anyone who is willing to stick with it can be successful. My warning would be to go into a yarn store with an intention, whether that is a pattern, a particular fibre or weight of yarn you want to try. This makes it more likely that you will use your purchases in a timely fashion instead of storing them for years.
Congratulations on 4K! My tip is - TH-cam is your friend. Most of the more intricate knitting I've done I learned on YT. Also, watch several videos on the same skill from different people. We have different learning styles. If one video doesn't click with you, watch a different one. You'll find the one that works for you. My warning is to invest in decent needles. I'm specifically thinking about circular needles here. They don't have to be crazy expensive, but don't start out with the cheapest you can find because you don't want to waste money on a hobby you might not like. Needles made with cheap or poor materials will guarantee you will hate knitting.
A tip for new knitter: Recognize your learning style. Will you learn faster by using a printed learner’s guide, watching and rewatching how to videos or by working one on one with an experienced knitter?
Hi Amanda! I also am knitting tge 24 birds MKAL and I was able to grab the “Plume” color palette from Voolenvine. It is so lovely! I recommend your plainest and lightest skein or Colour A so that the beautiful stitches will have definition. I will keep tuned roses yours ! I love LBA yarn sooo much too!
My advice for a newer knitter is, take the thinking out of knitting so all you have to do is knit. So mark up your pattern for your size, organize your tools, if there is a chart, color code what the symbols are. My warning is, don't get suckes into what is popular. Make what inspires you. If you are excited for the project, you will be motivated to finish it. And don't be afraid of mistakes. So much is learned from mistakes.
I will tell a new knitter or crocheter to give yourself some grace. I tell people there is no mistake that can’t be fixed. I also leave a mistake sometimes to one show it’s handmade and also I’m not perfect but this was made with love.
As a very strong lefty I 100% agree that lefties should not learn knitting differently! I knit English style just like righties do. That said, one caveat - a lot of people told me I was perfectly set up to learn continental because I was a lefty crocheter taking up knitting. That was not true for me. From crochet (where I do absolutely hold my hook in my left hand), I learned yarn management and tension with my right hand. As a result it was a million times easier to start knitting as a thrower with yarn management in my right hand. In fact, I manage colorwork with both colors held in my right hand and flicking/picking between them! I’ve experimented with continental and I can kind of sort of do it, but I continue to struggle with left handed yarn management. The only skill I struggle with is picking up stitches, as that is very difficult for me to do as a strong lefty.
Congratulations on 4K!! My tip is to not be afraid to talk to yarn people be it the proprietors of you LYS or to friends who knit or crochet. I've learned a lot through others' experiences and have found that people in this community are always open to helping. If a project is frustrating you, set it aside for a bit, revisit and if it's still not working out, frog away!
Tip: if you like something, don't let someone tell you that you can't make it. You can make amazing things without knowing how to do every part. Warning: there are amazing big box store yarns that can work in a lot of projects. You don't have to have the amazing expensive yarns.
My tip is keep a notebook with helpful you tube sites you used and liked for new techniques. Get a good tip and tricks book .
Congrats on 4K!🥳My tip is don’t be too hard on yourself…you’ll make mistakes at first, but keep going because practice makes perfect!😊
Happy 4K! Congratulations! My tip is to start with a small simple project. Lots of how to videos on You Tube if you don’t have a LYS or know anyone to help you. I taught myself to knit socks on You Tube. Great podcast Ladies!
Very informative today
My tip is be patient and don't give up
Congratulations on 4K!!
Congratulations on 4k🎉. My advice to new knitters - be patient with yourself. Don’t expect to master a new skill on your first attempt.
Great tip!
Thanks for sharing!!
Karin
🧡🧡🧡
Thanks for sharing!
Ohh - that's a good question -- we'll have to think about that!
Great tip!
Great advice!
Another tip is having the right quality tools ( and yarn) can make or break a project. It’s usually much better to have the right tools rather than forcing it
Very true!
My tip is to start with a DK or worsted yarn when you first start. Your swatch will knit up quickly and you can go from there!🥰
My tip is to use a lifeline often at the beginning.
Don’t be over critical of yourself, enjoy the process!
I have found that I learn new things with every class and I have been knitting for over 50 years
Thank you for your comment! We obviously agree! And we do have things at all price ranges. 🧡🧶🧡
Great tip!
Love this!
Love this!
That's so exciting :)
My tip for a beginner knitter would be to notice the difference between how a knit and a purl stitch looks, and also how that looks different depending on the kind of stitch below it.
Sure! I tend to purl off my thumb, flicking the yarn up over the needle as I go through. I'll see if we can do a close up!
When I’m teaching new knitters I get them to knit and purl on 50 sts back and forth till they get their tension down packed . Once they are ready I usually get them to knit a bulky hat which to me is much easier to frog back when mistakes are made and a quick project.
Congratulations on the 4K
My tip would be to not give up it's okay to make mistakes, and you will get there!
My warning: Don't pick a pattern that is too complicated .
Yeah for 4K 🎉 My tip would be, do not compare yourself to others in the beginning. 😊
Congrats on 4K 🎉. My advice would be to not give up and don’t be afraid to make a mistake.
Be brave ❤. Happy 4000 subscribers- you guys are one of my favorites.
Congrats on the 4k! Love watching you ladies
Congratulations ladies🎉🎉🎉
There are many wonderful tips for new knitters already given. My tip is for everyone - when you get tired/ bored with a project - knit one or two rows on the project everyday and then move on to a project you are more excited about knitting. You will eventually finish the project, without too much drudgery.
Great idea!!
My tip: It’s okay to make mistakes and practice makes perfect.
Wow! Congrats on 4K.! Thank you also for the tips and warnings 😊.
Congratulations to all of you with 4K subscribers. WOW! My tip would be take your time to plan your knits- and dont be afraid to ask the experts. Your LYS is your best resource for Knitting and if you dont have a local store email Yarnia, or call them. They've
been a big help to me.
🧡🧡🧡
i love this weeks question.
Such great advice about frogging -- I'm going to talk about exactly this when we record tomorrow! ~K🧶
Never be afraid to try something new. Starting over is always an option.
🧡🧡🧡
So true!
Tip: if you like something, don't let someone tell you that you can't make it. You can make amazing things without knowing how to do every part. Warning: there are amazing big box store yarns that can work in a lot of projects. You don't have to have the amazing expensive yarns.
