  • I was tired of being hot in the van and I was wanting to finally move into the van and start cleaning out the house and start a new chapter in life. The install was easy until it came to sealing in the AC. The bottom wasn't flat which made it difficult to seal. I finally got it sealed up and I didn't have any leaks as it rained that night!! The AC works great and keeps the van nice and cool. Hope you all enjoy the video!! #vanlife

I remember trying to sleep in my van while dripping in sweat, ugh..awful time. I'm so happy you have a.c now! That's a whole new world! Sleep well, after all that work, you've earned it 😊

GE 8000btu hooked to 2000w harbor, freight generator hanging on back door from modified tire carrier.
Cools great plus charges my 400ah. Lifepo bats. for 6-7 hrs on less than gal. of fuel. Total OG…
Use expanded aluminum to make a guard for the condenser fins…backing into tree limbs really screws things up if no guard….
AC is mandatory for van life..

That's the same generator I have. I need to find a way to mount it on the back. I have it under the bed at the moment. My ac is a 5000 btu. It works good for my space. It's good to hear from ya man!!

Hi Kenny those window ac units are quite weighty as you know lifting it into the opening in the plywood. Going down the road the weight will try to loosen it in the hole . I would add a support bracket under it to help carry the load. Go from the outer edge on a 45* angle down toward the bottom of the original window hole. Just a suggestion to help with long term durability. Have a nice day. Tom up in Canada in the Maritimes at the NB-NS border.

@tommurray2653 thanks man. I have 3 different 4 inch wide L brackets in it supporting it. I wanted to put a piece of the angled aluminum across the bottom but I didn't want to hit the components inside so I used something smaller and placed them in places where I wouldn't hit anything inside. So far it's been holding up pretty good. I check them every so often. Good to hear from you!! Thanks for commenting! Hope to hear from ya again

Kenny, please listen to me. I am on my third window ac in my van, in the same door as your van. If you can help it do not open that door at all. If you do open it, when you shut it, shut it very softly with a finger. Shutting that door to hard breaks the coolant line. Its happened to me twice, and it is a pain in the but to replace, not to mention expensive.
