  • MORE POWER FOR JOCO!!
    We take you step by step thru the install of our side rail panels DIY of course :) Captain Jeff does a fabulous job explaining the whole process. We now have over 1000W of power on our tiny 35 foot sailboat!
    One last project before we leave St Martin and head SOUTH!

    That was a fantastic addition to JOCO. You and Jeff sure know your way around a boat. Happy sailing. Be safe. Be happy.

      Thank you much Mike! It’s definitely important to know every square inch of our floating home ; we need to know how to fix it in the middle of the ocean haha! This is why we like to do things DIY instead of paying a professional (whose work , as you know from prev episodes is never as good as Jeff’s!!)
      Very happy to have the boost in power here in the Caribbean !

    I think my generator uses more fuel in ten days to keep my batteries topped off every morning . Then if I motored 25 hours . You guys are awesome 😎

      Yeah so far we don’t own a generator but some days we could still definitely use it! Next power upgrade will be to lithium batteries wethink 👌

      Ya gotta work hard to be successful at this lifestyle and to tackle projects before they become dire and mess everything up in the moment when you’re trying to relax. That’s what our objective is anyway haha

    I had replced the top life with1 inch aluminum pipe around the boat. So now have a secure place for solar panels. Used 250 watt on the sides and 2 on the davits. Then a wind vane also a having a hydro vane there is bracket that fits on the lower end to mount a sea and watt hydro generator that can put out 600 watts but the best it can do on a sailboat is about 250 watts. Also have a hydrogen generator that has 200 apes per day. It is a ventilated locker. Do not use unless there is no sun or wind or not moving. All very expensive. Better than a generator. This is on a Caliber 40LDC. Havev 212 gallons of deisel under the sol as is the water. Very heavy boat. I single hand most of the. Living on west coast I go to Alaska go the Baja of Mexico but not to Baja as the Mexican cartels I understand have occupied the cities there. My girlfriend lives in the Philippines but it is about 10000 km from Washington state of about 7 weeks sail.

    Starting projects BEFORE coffee?? That's crazy talk! 🤪 Maybe I missed it, but how many watts will your panels generate?

    • @sailingjoco
      @sailingjoco  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      We had the deets at the very end ;
      Each side panel is 180W rated , and our top arch panels are 660W combined - so just over 1000W of power now woo!

    What are those supports for the solar panels on the side. We are needing to come up with a solution for adding two panels on the side like that? Also, what brand solar panels you go with

    • @sailingjoco
      @sailingjoco  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      We showed and talked about the install at the end if you want to take a look. Also a close up of the panel brand and specs - Carib Marine. Are you talking about the carabiners? Or the white panels holding it up?
      We just installed new lifelines (did ya see that vid?) which is how we’re able to have the panels on them. Our old lifelines would never work for it ! May stretch them out a bit over time but the cost to replace one line is minor in the grand scheme of things 👌

    • @sailingwanderlust22
      @sailingwanderlust22 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@sailingjoco yes the white panels. I went back and seen that. Very nice

    • @sailingjoco
      @sailingjoco  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They are starboard ! 3/4 inch thick. We secured the panels to the board with a bolt (removable) at the top as well. Strong, but tedious to take them down, room for improvement there.
      We’re glad to hav gone with the thicker board as there is a bit of deflection
