I actually really love these comics. They really gain some quality after The Empire Strikes Back was adapted and the series had some established lore. Jaxxon really only played a minor in the series before being forgotten about by later writers. I wish he and Amaiza could have showed up again later. But Marvel's Star Wars is well worth checking out if you're a fan. They put out some of the best (and admittedly, worst) stories ever told in the Star Wars Universe. The series's 3rd annual ends with one of my personal favorite Star Wars moments of all time. The series introduced a lot of other characters that, for a while left an impact on the Star Wars Franchise most people aren't aware of, including myself for a while. I just wish the series hadn't been cut short like it was. It ends so abruptly at an interesting time for the series.
This is a good comment. You're right - early Marvel Star Wars had excellent moments, and some off the wall stuff, as well. It's all available on Marvel Unlimited to read, so any Star Wars fan can check out the entire series without having to hunt down back issues. Still, I managed to get ahold of some. Felt necessary to get some shots of them for the video. :) Cheers!
I checked, and apparently Jaxxon first appeared in 1978, while Bucky O'Hare was created from 1978-1979, so it's entirely possible that Jaxxon was created first.
I came to watch this video for one reason and one reason only: to see my boy Jax! Been an unashamed fan of Jax since the beginning. I even plotted out a fan fiction for his backstory inspired by Watership Down. Hell yeah!

I unironically love some of these. Modern Star Wars can be a bit (OK, a lot) naval gazey and I think they could learn a lot by how creative and out-there the old material was. It's what makes Guardians of the Galaxy so fantastic. The missing ingredient is fun. Also what is it with green gun-toting space hero bunnies? Maybe Jaxxon, Bucky O'Hare and Jazz Jackrabbit are all the same guy working different jobs.

You know, he’s actually back in canon. He was in one of the Star Wars Adventures comics (kid’s comic). Not to mention, for Marvel’s 80th anniversary, they added on to the original, now legends, Star Wars comic, where he came back along with Amaza and Valance The Hunter (the hunter looking after Luke Skywalker)
A member of his species also appears in a Visions short named Lop, a former Empire slave girl torn between the conflict of her adoptive father and her adoptive sister.
The real question is: Did Jaxxon inspire Bucky O'Hare or did Bucky inspire Jaxxon, and (either way) which one inspired Jazz Jackrabbit? Or were they another example of parallel thinking, like with the two versions of Dennis The Menace?
I had those issues when I was a kid. I always wondered why there was a pirate who forgot to put on some pants, and a green Bugs Bunny helping Han. The issue where Luke and the Droids crash into the water and are harassed by the giant sea monster was a favorite of mine!!
Have you considered covering the Droids cartoon from the 80's? It's goofy and cheesy on account of being marketed towards kids and executive meddling, but I find it endearing in its own right. It also had a surprisingly large hand in influencing the future of Star Wars up to and including the current batch of films, what with Kylo Ren bearing a suspiciously similar name to Kybo Ren, a villain from the show.
