After the reception of the last Jedi, I’d say they’re VERY in touch with reality.
I mean, The Force Awakens was possibly literally the most unoriginal film of all time and yet it made 2 billion dollars off of nostalgia, emotion and fan service despite it not being all that high in quality. TLJ was an awful Star Wars film that made another billion. Episode 9 (which is arguably worse but for different reasons) is probably still going to make a BILLION dollars because it's Star Wars. Think about that. Zero quality, but 9 zero's. 1,000,000,000, just off of its name alone. Why would you put in effort when your fans will make you a billion regardless.
This is the Call of Duty, FIFA, NBA 2k, Dragon Ball, One Piece anime, Star Wars etc model. If fans didn't like and purchase bullshit, then they wouldn't be getting bullshit lol. Supply and demand is as simple as that.

Granted it suffers from clunky dialogue and hit-or-miss acting like the other Prequels (stuff which I didn't mind as a kid), if you dig beneath the surface and focus more on the narrative, themes and worldbuilding, you'll realize that its worthy of standing next to Originals. In fact, I would even go as far as to argue that the Prequel Trilogy as a WHOLE (meaning not individual movies like Attack of the Clones, which I admit is still terrible) can be considered "good" in that they actually fulfill their purpose in the franchise (presenting the fall of Anakin/Jedi Order and the rise of Palpatine/Empire), something that the Micky Mouse Sequel Trilogy itself couldn't accomplish.

After the travesty of episode 8 I just said fuck it its probably shit. And to my complete surprise it was shit. I believe that the new trilogy isn't even canon now, its all just poorly written fanfiction at this point.
