      Looking forward to an honest review of this, especially the hybrid part. It has been for sale for some time now but this has not gotten the attention it deserves.
      I believe belgium has the 155bhp hybrid version, holland does not.
      Like the colour but i'd still prefer magnetic grey over this.

      I’ve got a silver fox, paint mismatch aside it’s the best colour on the ST. It makes the car look like a hot hatch. The rest of the colours just blend in imho

      Bloody awful colour. I had the titanium and had it in chrome blue which I liked in the end, I originally wanted deep impact blue but when I went to order my lease car, ford dropped deep impact blue. I actually ended up liking chrome blue. Mine was the 100hp ecoboost. I like the sound of 155hp ecoboost.

      155? I thought this was the 125? From what I understand, Fiesta's 1.0L EcoBoost Hybrid was never tuned to Focus' 1.0L EcoBoost Hybrid level; even the Focus only had 155 on the Powershift variant, the manual one had the 125.

    Got this car as a rental now for 2 weeks and I like it alot, drives very good (I am an inexperienced driver just got my license a year ago) now I only got one problem. Once coming up to a roundabout it shut itself off and wouldn't turn on again at all like seriously stuck, not even start stop button would work and disengaging the gear and re-engage didn't do anything so I just sat there for good 3 minutes with my hazard lights on blocking the traffic until - it somehow turned on again without any input and accelerating to 4000 rpm until I pressed the gas pedal myself and it worked normally ever since. Very weird, what I'm guessing is it was a rainy day and there was some shortage that did this. No clue why but until then I actually considered getting this as my first daily but now I kind of want to get an older car with less tech and more turning the key to turn it off and on because I don't need that stuckage... the more tech the more bugs.

      Overall a lot quieter than the ST3, and is not quite as quick to get to 60. I'd say it feels very similar to my old 140bhp st line.
      I have to check my speed often as it really doesn't make much sound when you're going around 60/70.

    I have to say I thought about Fiesta ST-Line with 125hp EB mHEV ever since i've driven the Puma with this engine and found it to be a fantastic engine. Better than standard 1.0 EB, due to electric engine's additional torque in lower part of the torque curve. I didn't observed mentioned problems in 'sport' mode in Puma (Titanium, not ST-L). Maybe the option of regen affected this behaviour?
    Personally I think it's a perfect engine for such a small car - you can work it hard on public roads, response of throttle is sport mode is great, there's decent ooomph, sound is also the best 1.0l engine I heard. And it's the first start/stop that I found usefull and let's say - invisible. Only con are vibrations below 1,6~1,7k rpm.
    I'd love to drive it. I think Fiest ST-Line with mHEV EB have to be a riot, really!

    Good review. I am not sure a real hybrid is much better. It becomes a lot heavier with lot of batteries. Also, the power still come from the engine. Even though it can drive with battery power, the energy still comes from the engine burning fuel. This system stores the energy from regen braking and then output the power when you accelerate saving engine power.

    Where you got it wrong is that the 48V battery is underneath the driver's seat, for right hand drive cars

  • @borisdemelo
    @borisdemelo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    This is NOT a hybrid. It’s a mild hybrid (MHEV). These are 2 different things.
    Hybrid: Like the Prius and other Toyota hybrids can move the car on solely electric power at low speeds and use the ICE for more power.
    Mild Hybrid: Basically a stop-start system with a stronger starter motor with a 48V battery that allows you to start the engine faster, and charge the battery while braking (but not as much as a regular hybrid).
    I honestly find mild hybrids a cheap marketing trick meant to artificially increase manufacturers’ “electrified” sales numbers since most people don’t know the difference between hybrids and mild hybrids.

    • @DaveDVideoMaker
      @DaveDVideoMaker 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      And plus, you can have the mild hybrid with a manual gearbox. On a normal hybrid, is an automatic gearbox the only option?

    • @neilbowness6074

      It’s not a hybrid it’s a mild hybrid.........so it’s still a hybrid just a different hybrid, so it’s a hybrid............

    • @borisdemelo
      @borisdemelo 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@neilbowness6074 I’m only calling it that because it’s the industry accepted terminology and I had to use it to explain the difference. From the description I’ve given, you can see that it’s just a better stop-start system.
      And even if I agreed with the terminology, I still think it’s an important distinction for a car review, to say what kind of hybrid it is. The reviewer in this video seemed to be surprised that it wouldn’t operate in EV mode at all, which is impossible in a mild hybrid.

    • @borisdemelo
      @borisdemelo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DaveDVideoMaker yeah, that’s right, a manual gearbox is only possible with mild hybrids because it’s always using the engine to move. With a hybrid, manufacturers won’t offer a manual because a driver may not know how to manage gear changes in the transition between electric and hybrid mode.
      Toyota hybrids for example, don’t even have a normal transmission with individual gears; they use a planetary gear set, which is simpler than a conventional transmission and more reliable (but they just call it a CVT since that’s how the resulting drive feels).

    • @DaveDVideoMaker

    got the new facelift 125hp version of the car and what you describe with regen in sport mode is something i like tbh. but i have about 1000 km of seat time in a pure electric prototype light vehicle that had more electric power and was half the weight. and the aggressive regen realy grew on me. the fiesta feels like that very pocket rocket prototype at least what the regen is concerned and since brake pads cost money well might as well. comes with the side effect though that you have to give like 1or2 mm of throttle at a slight downhill section to not loose speed makes about 0.5l/100km not bad enough to hate it. just while it obviously is charge state dependent how much / how aggressive it regens i happen to get a somewhat unpredictable driving behaviour since nobody ever anywhere tells you the charge of your battery... sometimes almost no regen what so ever (or so it feels) sometimes like 20% brake pedal just by going off the throttle.... 3rd and 4th gear seem to regen quite well 6th feels almost not there

It's more complex, it'll be more expensive to insure, it'll weigh more, have greater tyre wear and the electricity you're generating to feed those batteries comes from burning petrol. Is there a more expensive way of generating electricity? Is there?

    • @JBCTR

      This is the replacement for the outgoing petrol ecoboosts, so you won’t be able to buy a ‘normal’ one going forwards. It’s 30KG extra (which you won’t notice) and the batteries are charged from braking/slowing down - that’s energy that is completely wasted in a traditional car. Although it’s not a fully fledged hybrid, I think it’s great you get an extra 15hp for free. 👍🏼
