How to Remove Glass from a Double Glazed Window

I have moisture between the glass on my kitchen window. The double glazed unit needs to be replaced.This involves removing the glazing rubber from the inside of the window before I can go outside to adjust the glass inwards to allow the glazing beads to be taken out. This system stops someone just taking the glass out of your window to break into your house. It's a little difficult but if you take a little time and are not too heavy handed it is possible to do it yourself.

I cracked the inside pane of my shed window. As its just a shed can I remove the interior pane and just make it a single pane window without a lot of hassle?

Never seen the rubber being removed on the inside before. My beads are also on the outside but the glass is held in with double sided security tape. Beads are a pain to get out. Also wondering whether there is a trick to measuring for the new glass without removing the beads.

Hi Rob. Measure the outside to ouside of the bead and allow 5mm per side so if your measurement was 1000mm wide then your glass is 990mm. Repeat the same for the height. You need to know the thickness of the double glazed unit unit though so you can get that with just 1 bead removed. Removing the rubber allows the glass to go back and make room for the beed to be removed. Thanks for commenting. Cheers Gerry

Got a question lad, do you have to remove the rubber seal inside first? Or can we just snap the pvc from outside then remove the rubber seal if it needs to be replaced? Greetings from the hills of Donegal

No need to take out internal seal, just pop out the glazing bars. It doesn't matter if internally glazed or externally glazed.

you only have to remove the frame and they should be on the inside yours were on the outside witch makes it easy for burglars to
access your home you should never remove the rubber seal whoever showed you how to do this is wrong or a drunk in the pub

That's what I thought my window beads were put in on the inside

That's nonsense, the wedge vinyl goes in on the inside last to force the unit out against the beads to "secure" them, Gerry's vinyl was way too small for that particular window as it was sitting far to low, you can get it on ebay. That window must be over 25 year old to have external glazing beads, some didn't have the wedge vinyl but security tape on the inside then the unit then the beads, they are bastard to get out.
