    We have just replaced a sealed unit that had 'blown' following your fantastic instructions, removed the unit, took it to our local glass replacement showrooms picked up it's replacement the following day, cost £15.00, and fitted it this morning. My husband is a very reluctant DIY person and it went perfectly, many thanks.

    Few tips that have been missed out. Before removing pane soak up the glass with soapy water to allow the beads to slip out easier. Remove top bead last , stops glass falling out. Make sure the sticker on the new glass faces inside the house. Soap up new pane before installing the beads. If you don't have plastic hammer , use a normal hammer and a bit out timber to tap beads back in

    Thanks. Exactly what I was looking for. I've watched a professional changing the glass in two windows in my conservatory but wanted to check a video to make sure I had seen the correct procedure. I have a fairly large second hand window to install but need to remove the glass in order to fix the frame. Your video confirmed the procedure. General comment to other people with window problems - if you live in an affluent area, get a small firm from a less affluent area to quote to fix your windows - you will find that it is surprisingly cheap in comparison to a major company from a richer area.

    I'm curious to find out how the frame is secured in place, I'm currently moving house at the moment and the window frame in the new house needs to be removed to get the couch in, I assume the fixings are hidden beneath the glass.... But I'm not sure.

    Hi. Great video. Sorry if someone already asked this. I want to replace a double glazing and install acoustic glazing of same overall thickness. I have a double casement wooden window. do you advise to use any sealant? Do you suggest to install window packers at the bottom? When i open the beading, i will use the existing glazes as a basis for the measurements. Anything you advise in particular? Many thanks

    One of my window panels cracked on just the inside panel last night. I thought a bird had flown into the window or someone threw something at it, until I checked it in the morning and saw the outside one was fine. This was at 9:30 at night. Just wondering why a panel would just crack like that on the inside one and not the outside? Cracked all the way from almost corner to corner. Glad to see from your video that it will be easy for them to replace for me. Thanks.

    Thanks for the video mate. What is that you are using to get in-between the beading and the frame? I bought a chisel knife as a pallet knife was too flexible. But only managed to get one strip of. Is a chisel knife ok? It's rigid and very thin but has a slightly chiseled edge / tip. I didn't try hitting the end with my hand so will give that a go maybe I am just being a bit too careful. Can the beading be reused? I only need to deglaze a window to install it in a shed and then replace the same glass immediately afterwards.

  • @mikeavison5383
    @mikeavison5383 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Shouldn't you have put in some spacers to tension the glass within the panel, so it does not distort under the weight of the glass and become difficult to open and close. Also I find it easier to start pushing the bead out form the middle section since the ends are engaged with the bevel of the adjacent bead. The beads are sufficiently bendy that this works well.

    Hi again Shane we managed to get most of the conservatory today, going back tomorrow morning so hoping I might just catch you as we need help. We have 4 side frames left but they are too big and cant seem to find out ow to dismantle them. In the corners of frames underneath the edging it has 4 small blocks that are flush with the frame. Probably not explaining very well but these blocks have a pair on each edge of the rectangular framework when its tilted on its side can we see how to take them apart any idea from my description what they do ?

      +Shane Atkinson thank you . It is a conservatory much like the one in video.... Maybe 7 of them are sweating badly .. The seal is gone .. The french doors were 800 hundred each per estimate for glass replacement and the stain glass sections were not cheap either... The video shows it is very easy to remove them... Maybe a local company estimate would be cheaper than what the conservatory people charge..I just thought I could drill small holes in the side beads as they are all tempered glass .. Flush with a electronic solvent then purge all residue out...It would have to look better than sweating internal dripping water....Your video makes it look easy provided I have the replacement ready to go..

    I removed all the vinyl beads, just like in this video. But my window / glass must be also held in with silicon caulking. Can't get the glass to budge at all from the frame. Plenty of room on the sides.
    Was thinking about heating the glass up with a torch to get it to release from the other side of the vinyl frame.
    Open to suggestions!

    • @kevincronin60181
      @kevincronin60181 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      They used a thick black tape on the bedding. The silicone was used on the opposite side of the glass. Opposite side of the Glazing bead. Only a thin amount was used. I tried running a putty knife between the glass and the bead frame to separate it from the frame. The glass kept cracking, which made it dangerous to work with.
      My window are fogged up, not broken. I did find a shop to make new thermo ones with me doing the install & removal. 25 3/4 X 22 for $35 + tax.
      Blows away other quotes of $200 per window.

      @Jon M good luck taking the glass out with externally beaded windows theres either double sided tape or gasket keeping the bead in place , access inside when taking glass out is key.i have never come across a external bead which simply pops out.While there not 100% secure the key reason to making internally glazed windows is practicality not having to climb a ladder to glaze 2nd 3rd floor windows.Salesman jumped on the scare monger bandwagon

    • @shaneatkinson
      @shaneatkinson  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are glass packers to lift the glass a few mm to hollow any water getting in the rebate to flow out of the drainage holes and this stops the glass from sitting in water and breaking the seal on the glass which causes the unit to fail and get condensation between the glass the packers must be wide enough to support the unit ie 28mm unit = 28mm packers

      it's sounds like laminated glass and the spacer and sealants used to seal the inner pane to the outer are made for making sealed units has the spacer in between the panes are filled with desiccant small balls that give the sealed unit it's vacuum and life span the sealant is more than likely a hot melt sealant that bonds the panes together with the spacer bar in between

      The CIA got guys who could remove really hard window sash glazing, remove glass, gain entry, and reglaze it afterwards. Elesberg's office. Nixon days.

      You'd have to already be inside the building to do this, as the seals aren't on the outside.

    F#&@ our windows were installed inside out in the mid 80s. That part is on the outside. Unless this dude has full blown trees in his living room.

    What a great way off showing people how to break into someone's house and Rob them or even worse rape or murder. Very stupid video in my eyes. Surely common sense would have the windows solid on the outside and only be able to be removed from the inside. That's a thiefs or murderers entry point there. Only need a wood chisel and u can easily get in the house without making little to no noise. Stupid and unsafe design. Terribly manufactured. If the homeowner can't be in to have them renewed from the inside then reschedule another time. Pritty sure safety is no.1. But these have probably been made like that so that they can be done at anytime so it's more productive and therefore makes more money. Should be made firstly for for safety then for financial gain.
