Man awesome video!!!! Straight to the point and super helpful. I’ve got a couple cracked windows in my house I’ve been afraid of changing them out. U made me a little more confident. Thanks man!
Almost all vinyl windows will be 1 inch over the visible glass dimensions. In other words 1/2 coverage all the way around. Andersen windows are the exception to this rule. Some of theirs are 13/16 over visible glass dimensions. You will need a pair of calipers and a low e checker to properly measure the glass thickness and determine if it has low e coatings. Or buy a glass checker pro from edtm
I love having a long auto glass knife to get some good leverage, gets in nice and close to the surface. Woods Power grip! Only way to go! I’m a year in with glazing, love it! Stay safe bro.

I have a vinyl window where the glass on the inside is broken but the glass on the exterior isn’t broken. Is there anyway to replace the 1 piece of glass on the inside or should I just do what you did on the video?
Hi Alex I have 27 vinyl replacement double hung windows( each sash has a 2 pane unit) installed 25 years ago, by a company named Thermal Industries which is out of business. 3 of the windows are leaking at the bottom corners of the bottom sashes when there are heavy rains.. the weep holes are not clogged. I see how you changed the glass unit. Please explain how to stop the leaking at the bottom corner of the bottom sash when it rains hard? They are high-quality windows. The installer is still in business and says it is time for new windows. I think they can be repaired but I don't know how . Perhaps I could silicone the edge of the glass where it meets the frame on the outside. The glazing beads on in the inside and brittle and hard to remove.
Do you have a suggestion on an easy method to cutting out an IG on a pella? They have a a really hard white rubbery type of adhesive. I usually have to use a multi tool. Which takes a lot longer
Hi Alex, Thank you for all your helpful videos. Would you please tell me how I can replace one broken glass of an insulated glass. It's about 18"x38"x3/4". I have 15 year old grid inside the IGU which is impossible to find a match for. Can I just remove the glass using a heat gun and reuse the space and use latex glazing compound to reseal after putting a new pane of glass on one side. Thanks,
Andy Nav what we usually do when having to only replace one pane is we run a razor knife just under the Broken pane of glass and along side the butyl or whatever is holding it together and go around the whole thing and just make sure to clean it up as good as u can before putting your new piece of glass
Do I have to use the double sided tape, or can I use silicone caulking or glazing putty for the window? Thank you very much for the video and your insight!
BTW, in my case, the window is a sidelight window to side of the front metal door and its frame is a wooded one. I will be taking out the old broken sidelight glass (double pane) and replacing it with a new dual pane glass. The frame appears to have some kind of putty or adhesive or silicone caulking to hold the glass in its place.
Alex, I want to completely pull out my double hung assembly (over 100+ years) and just put in a double-pane replacement glass (picture window) in it's place. I'm ordering the glass itself, just want to place trim around the glass on both sides. No opening/closing, very modern minimal trim. I know how to get the glass, the trim, no so much- suggestion?
Dude, this is awesome. I just bought a new construction house and half the windows are failing I think. When it gets super cold I see condensation in between the panes, on the top stationary portion of the window, but at the bottom of that portion. (Basically the bottom part of the top half of the window, the half that doesn’t move) If that makes sense at all. Anyway, I was freaking out thinking all the windows would need to be torn out and replaced, trim and all. So nice to know I can replace them on my own and do it right. One question though, where do you source the replacement panes? Thank YOU!
Well you should be able to google your local glass shop and to make it easy on you and them just give them the width and height of your glass size one you figure that out and you will also need the thickness of the overall unit. If it’s a vinyl window they are normally 3/4 in thick and they can make it for you and now you know you can do it yourself super easy
The window is on second story condominium. can we replace it from within the bedroom or we have to use a ladder to go outside which is pretty tall? It looks like you only replace the glass piece not the whole window. This might be cheaper than replacing the whole window but I’m not sure it’s possible in our case.We have the old I believe aluminum metal Single pane window.
Thanks for the great video. I'm looking at a top/fixed panel of a single hung window that is broken and it looks like the vinyl strips are on the inside. Is that possible? If so, will I still need to get around to the other side to slice the tape/silicon? It's a second story window... Is it possible to do it all from inside or will I be going up the ladder outside?
Thanks for the video. Is it possible to take it out from the inside since mine is on the second story? I am not sure how to remove the fixed window part.
Can you do this on a double pane window? Mine has 2 pieces of glass on the window. Broke both but on the bottom part. It also pulls out from the bottom part to clean the windows. It’s the newer windows.
Hi, we’re having a hard time getting the window to come loose. We used the razor blade, removed the strips from the outside but the window is old & is very stuck to the frame. Any suggestions on how to loosen it up? Thank you, appreciate any suggestions.
Dang. Sometimes that sealant ends up coming of the glass and adheres to the vinyl. We use a suction cup and or a pry bar to push out on it. If it’s broke then obviously no big deal but if you’re trying to save it then that’ll be hard
Sometimes the spacer melts and the bottom stops may not come off. Just leave it on and lift the glass out. Dont get overly excited folks there are hundreds of different styles of windows and the stops they use. This is NOT a representation for all windows. Some done even have stops and are what is know as wrap around. Where the corners are screwed together.
Andrew Prince well we buy our stuff from CRLaurence but they only sell to accounts but I believe you can buy it at Home Depot or lowes as long as it’s 1/16 to 1/8 thickness by 1/4 or even 3/8 wide will work
