Good catch... Sorry you had to experience an issue like that but it's probably for the best that you did since it can help others who watch your videos if they experience the same issue. Kudos to Walther for their prompt action and great customer service!
Thank you. I agree that is better that we or another channel like us find these things first since we are in a good position to analyze and report on it.
thanks hammer striker. I love walter pistols and my edc is a ppq. Customer service is a big plus at Walter as well, though I have never had to use them.
Knowing how Walther handled this is issue is exactly why I ordered one... Compared to how FN is handling their broken striker problems. For me it was down to them and the PPQ SC, but the way Walther does business won it for me.
I’m happy that they are quick about this particular case. Hopefully they get it back to you quickly so we can see the improvement as well as the customer service. It sucks that there is already an issue, however, it’s great in the case of perfecting further. Thanks for the great video! Keep doing what you’re doing!
Thank you. I was definitely pleased with the attitude and response that I got from Walther. They really do seem to be interested in dealing with this properly and quickly.
I just found this video and immediately grabbed my SC to see if it has the same flaw. Mine is just the opposite being lower instead of higher at the end of the ramp. I just bought mine towards the end of 2021 so maybe it's been corrected. Thanks for the video
Hello. I had a p365 that I didn’t like so I traded it in and got a new in box PPQ SC for about an hour but the extractor was defective so they bought it back from me and I got another VP9SK. I could have just sent it back for warranty work but leaving a store with a new pistol that didn’t work proper was not going to be an option. I have a Walther PPQ M1 and that’s what prompted me to want a PPQ sc.
Just to be a little pedantic. That part is actually not the "loading ramp". The _loading ramp_ is the extension on the _barrel_ that guides the nose of the bullet into the chamber. The part that you were referring to on the slide is actually called the _stripper rail_ , for obvious reasons. For someone to watch the whole video this makes sense, but initially it was quite confusing.
You are correct that what he is referring to is a stripper rail, however what you are referring to as a "loading ramp" is actually a feed ramp. If we're arguing semantics, let's be 100% correct 😉 Some may refer to it as a loading ramp, but i have never heard or read that term
If you're still in the market for one, I highly recommend the Springfield Hellcat if you want high capacity while still being ultra concealable. It's better than the P365 in every way aside from the trigger (although the Apex trigger for the Hellcat makes it better than anything available for the P365). If you want something a little bigger though I would go with the P365XL or Glock 43X with a ShieldArms mag.
I wish I could say the same about Walther...although I like their guns, I personally had a few bad experiences with their customer service and a rude employee or two.
MY 27 TOO JUST AS DESCRIBED. WEAR ON THE LEADING EDGE OF THE BARREL AS IT DROPS OUT OF BATTERY WITH THE FRAME CAUSED ME TO THINK THIS WAS A BARREL TOLERANCE ISSUE. PERHAPS NOT THE CAUSE. BUT GREASE ON THE CONTACT SURFACES MINIMIZED THE ISSUE.
Thanks for sharing brother. Seems like most “new” model guns these days have some issues that need to be worked out....I’ll wait till they resolve them. Great vid ✊
The solution for Walther should have been to never change the basic ppq design so much on the slide in the first place. They could have just made relief cuts to lighten the slide for the faster cycling, but no they cheapened the design of a proven firearm. I know trying to lowering production cost is way of business, but you can’t sacrifice reliability while cutting corners to save a few bucks. This gun hasn’t been received well over on walther forum by a lot of die hard Walther fans because of these design changes that have obviously cheapened the ppq platform. I will not be buying one of these. I have 2 ppq’s that have made me a fan of the design and this new sc is different enough that I don’t trust it to be as durable and reliable as the others. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it Walther.
@@MikeMikeActual I wonder where Walther will go from here. The PPQ design is proven but it's almost 10 years old now. I would love to see what Walther will come up with when they move away from the PPQ design into their next flagship handguns.
Sorry to jump in 2 yrs late, but you're wrong. They did this design on purpose to make it a polymer piece on the inside specifically for weight-savings as this would be a conceal carry gun. The full size PPQ has a steel interior which obviously they were interested in weight savings in the SC model.
I see where others have the same flaw, so even though it doesn't grab on every unit, Walther _should_ do a recall. That's an obvious error that probably happened after engineering when the production was set up. Most likely Walther will take the least expensive way out and just grind a steep ramp at the rear of the slide piece to raise the cartridge up. I and others had a similar casing-grab issue with the Ruger LCP 2, where the casing would hang up on the barrel opening if the cartridge was slightly to the left of barrel center. Ruger didn't mill a bevel at the chamber opening, so the casing protrusion caught there and resulted in a failure to feed. -
I wonder why it only happens when loading a mag and not every time the gun cycles a round? I guess the force of the slide when firing just overcomes the case rim?
I would not give up on the SC. We either had a one-off defect or a "first run" type issue since ours was one of the first to hit the street. Check out our full review and our "Problem Fixed" video. The replacement is working flawlessly.
Thanks but I went and bought another Kimber. I have several of them now and haven't found another manufacture that I like as much as Kimber. I'm looking forward to going to the range this weekend with my new 9mm ACP Kimber Micro.
I think it is fair to suggest that you delete this video. Reason being that there aren’t many video reviews on the PPQ SC, so when people TH-cam search it and see this, they might not see the 2,000 rd review or any of the videos you made after the fact explaining that you had a pre-release model, it was made right by Walther, and you never encountered the issue again. I did a fair amount of research on PPQ SC before buying and don’t think I saw any complaints of this happening. I am somewhat of a Walther “fanboy”, so the video wouldn’t throw me off, but if it were another brand I was looking into and saw this video, I would prob just rule the pistol out completely and start looking at other options. Don’t think there’s anything questionable about deleting the vid. Obviously you can do what you want. Thanks for taking the time to make informative and thorough reviews!

Fair enough on the honesty, but if it was a prerelease gun then essentially it was given to you to find an error to be addressed, you tested found an error, they fixed it, never had issue again.. boom all is well, but definitely interesting vid

Will do. Mine is around 64xxx made in 2016. It's had the recall done, but the previous owner had mangled the takedown latch and tool. Walther is sending me one of each. The trigger pull is awful and the disconnect process is very stiff, almost like there's a burr on the trigger bar that doesn't want to let go of the sear drum. A little stoning should clear that up. I want to like this gun, but it's fighting me.
I just bought a PPQ SC and love the pistol and own a PPS M2, but wanted more capacity and a smoother trigger pull. The issue I have is sometimes my slide doesn’t fully return to battery but not as bad as yours BUT if I load 15 bullets in the 15 round mag, I can’t get the mag to lock in place without physically slamming my hand on it to forcefully shutting the mag in place. It’s absurd really and I don’t think that is normal. It would not be practical in a self defense situation which is why I bought the pistol. Concerned and confused. Any help/thoughts?!

I don't understand why Walther added polymer to make the slide lighter. The PPQ is already plagued with a higher bore axis than most striker fired guns and it is already too light. If you're going to have a higher bore axis, you better add a couple of ounces.
It appears to have been a manufacturing defect in this specific one, the replaced the gun and we haven't had an issue since. If you are interested in all the details check out our "It's back ..." video.

Old Milk3 are you talking about the PPQ first version. The one with the lever magazine release. Yea those mags aren't compatible. I have the PPQ M2 which has the same button as on the SC
Neal Leavitt your M2 mags will not work. They changed the mag geometry slightly so you need to buy new PPQSC 15 rd mags if you want to have 15rds. If you use your m2 mags you run the risk of over inserting the mag and causing malfunctions and damage to the firearm
Old Milk3 wow, that's crazy. I'm gonna pass on the SC then. It's funny. Almost every other manufacturer allows the larger model mags to fit the smaller model. Thanks for the heads up. I really thought the 15 round mag that comes with the SC was the same except for the grip sleeve.
Neal Leavitt I was thinking the same thing bc I have a ton of ppq mags... I just went ahead and bought a p99c instead... I have a p99 and guess what? The 15 rd mags work in the compact!!!
This one was one of the very first that hit the streets so I think it was an exception, the replacement has had zero issues (we did do an update video) so if yours is fine it will likely stay that way.
I just inspected my PPQSC and it’s designed the same way regarding the feed ramp. I’ve put a couple of hundred rounds through mine so far without problems but I haven’t tried to manually cycle the gun. Would it be ammo related at least in part? I use Fiocchi 124 grain FMJ at the range. Please let us know if they come up with a fix. Thanks for sharing.
I do think it is partially ammo related, some ammo will just hesitate then cycle and others would hang up totally. I am a pretty strong guy so I can normally bull past any resistance, but on some ammo it just wasn't happening.
What was the response after sending it off? I'm currently in the market for a subcompact and it looks like it's coming down to either the VP9SK or PPQ SC for me.
Yes, it was a Day 1 issue. Ours was also one of the first batches, we scored it before they were really available. The replacement has been flawless so I think they had some "initial batch" parts issues.
Appreciate the video and addressing of the problem, but what you are pointing to is NOT the loading ramp; another comment specifies what is is. If you're going to instruct us, you need to at least know your parts.
Won't be buying one anyway. Walther refuses to produce any of their latest models in a M1 configuration, the SC, Q4 tac, Q5 match, PPQ .45 acp. Kinda disappointing because I absolutely love the paddle mag release. I carry a PPQ daily and was looking forward to a sub version, buying a VP9 SK instead.
Would probably help if I read the description lol. Thank you for replying. Your vids are great. I own two PPQ’s. 9mm with European mag release and a PPQ .45. Love them.
It appears to be a very narrow issue, I think they may have just had a few out-of-spec parts get into the supply as I am only hearing of a few other cases.
You won't see that in the Hk VP9/VP9SK product line. My first striker fired poly gun and I'm thoroughly impressed.. I've got the sk and it is a tack driver.
RPRzen The vp9 is quite good but it feels cheaper when compared to the p30/p30L Plus all vp9 rear sights sit canted and that’s what bothered me more so. The vp9 is a very reliable weapon don’t get me wrong, I’ve run just over 1000 rds without a cleaning to test it, BUT I just couldn’t deal with the canted sight, unlike the p30s and ended up trading it. YMMV
@@thisSiteSucksHard dont quiet get what you mean by chanted rear sights. My VP9SK is the LE model with tritium sights. To me it is perfection in the hand.
RPRzen Specifically, the slide is slightly raised on the right side making the sights not level. The slide rides on the trigger group or bar and makes the slide not perfectly flush to frame. If I were a left handed pistol shooter it wouldn’t matter as much but I shoot pistols right handed, left eye dominant, rifles I shoot left handed tho, ymmv and glad it works good for you
This is not just a "TH-cam safety check". We (and other channels like ours) do that for a purpose, it is because there are different reasons people come to TH-cam. Some come purely for entertainment (which is great), but many are new to firearms and come to TH-cam to learn. As safe handling procedures are the most important factor of dealing with firearms, reinforcing it is important. An inexperienced shooter viewing our videos (or others with similar mindset) will be reminded of the need to be very aware of the state of the weapon in addition to following the other safety procedures. Every once in a while you hear of somebody being shot by an "unloaded gun" (obviously it wasn't) or during the cleaning procedure. Hopefully reinforcing the need to clear a weapon that is going to be handled for a reason other than actually firing it may educate somebody and prevent a tragedy.

I do think it is partially ammo related, some ammo will just hesitate then cycle and others would hang up totally. I am a pretty strong guy so I can normally bull past any resistance, but on some ammo it just wasn't happening.
Hammer Striker
Have you tried S&B?
That part is NOT the feed ramp! It's called the stripper rail. Come on, man.
Thanks for sharing. Wow this sucks. I haven't yet seen this issue. Might hold off.
When we get it back we will put out an update with the results - I hope they get it fixed and have good info on what was done.
walther will make it right
They usually do fix their issues, Walther has been good to deal with any time I have needed to.
What keeps this from happening during live fire? The force of the slide reciprocating from the round itself going off?
I suspect that the recoil impulse makes the top round bounce just enough to skip right over the hump. We had no live-fire issues at all.
Hammer Striker I figured such was the case. Very interesting Walther changed the design as much as they did.
What was the response after sending it off? I'm currently in the market for a subcompact and it looks like it's coming down to either the VP9SK or PPQ SC for me.
They replaced it entirely and the new one has been flawless.
Vp9sk.. I do not have a single regret with mine.
Is this a problem that exist from the first time you have ever tacked this gun from purchase????
Yes, it was a Day 1 issue. Ours was also one of the first batches, we scored it before they were really available. The replacement has been flawless so I think they had some "initial batch" parts issues.
Did Walther ever resolve this?
Yes, we did a follow up then a 2000 round test on the replacement and it ran flawlessly.
I called Walther and they are ending the PPQ sc this year:(
That might explain why I can't currently find PPQ SC online...
Not having this issue with mine
Appreciate the video and addressing of the problem, but what you are pointing to is NOT the loading ramp; another comment specifies what is is. If you're going to instruct us, you need to at least know your parts.
Won't be buying one anyway. Walther refuses to produce any of their latest models in a M1 configuration, the SC, Q4 tac, Q5 match, PPQ .45 acp. Kinda disappointing because I absolutely love the paddle mag release. I carry a PPQ daily and was looking forward to a sub version, buying a VP9 SK instead.
Q4 tac has their classic model with paddle style release..
As does the q5 series
Dremel. Don't be scared.
What was the outcome. Just found your vid.
They replaced the gun and we have done a follow up on both that as well as a 2000 round test to determine the reliability.
Would probably help if I read the description lol. Thank you for replying. Your vids are great. I own two PPQ’s. 9mm with European mag release and a PPQ .45. Love them.
That's not good....
I haven't had this issue with mine
It appears to be a very narrow issue, I think they may have just had a few out-of-spec parts get into the supply as I am only hearing of a few other cases.
i was super excited about this gun when it was released, but sadly it is not worth the money : (
Trying to lose the glock fanboy status.
People be warned... The new SC version of the PPQ is not of the same quality as the standard versions.
You won't see that in the Hk VP9/VP9SK product line. My first striker fired poly gun and I'm thoroughly impressed.. I've got the sk and it is a tack driver.

The vp9 is quite good but it feels cheaper when compared to the p30/p30L
Plus all vp9 rear sights sit canted and that’s what bothered me more so.

Specifically, the slide is slightly raised on the right side making the sights not level. The slide rides on the trigger group or bar and makes the slide not perfectly flush to frame.
If I were a left handed pistol shooter it wouldn’t matter as much but I shoot pistols right handed, left eye dominant, rifles I shoot left handed tho, ymmv and glad it works good for you
@@rprzen2099 Too expensive for such a lacking trigger. Nice guns but not worth the asking price.
Jesus do they even shoot their guns before releasing them to the market?
Nice vid.
Thank you. I am hoping this is a one-off and not a product-wide issue, we shall see.
The name of Jesus is holy. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord in vain.
I have 3 ppq's including sc and I've never had that problem. I think its just you.
change the ammo lol G2
I like that gun but anymore is garbaje....
Internal extractor is shit, always. Walther used to be good.
Thumbs down for stupid TH-cam safety check.
