Suggestion: Step 1 - Cook the bacon most of the way using both sides of the pie iron. Step 2 - Leave most of the fat in one side and the bacon in the other. Step 3 - Crack an egg on top of the bacon in one half of the pie iron. Step 4 - Add your cheese on top of that. Step 5 - Add your potatoes on top of that. Step 6 - Pour the remaining fat onto the potatoes and cover. Step 7 - Cook with MOST of the time spent on the side with the potatoes. Step 8 - Check occasionally to ensure both sides are finished. Lower heat for a longer period is better. Avoid open flame and cook over coals.
For one thing, the butter you put on was a bacon side you didn’t butter the other side where the hashbrowns were and that’s why you were stuck if I’m correct
You need to Season the irons properly before using them and they are like using Nonstick cookware. I used Cisco and my BBQ to season mine years ago. Grease it heat let cool more Grease and heat. I did this 4 times inside and out before I ever attempted to cook in them. Eggs stip and slide right out.
Definitely! I am still learning how to cook with the Pie Irons and all of my failures have been due to lack of seasoning. I am going camping this coming weekend and will be trying some new breakfast recipes, the pie irons should be ready and fully seasoned for my next meals. Thanks for watching and the comment.
Thanks. I am new to pie iron cooking so each meal is a learning experience. Thanks for the suggestion, I will be making this again and will definitely try that.
Looks good!👍 Maybe pre-cook the bacon 1st. Then you can use the bacon fat too. You also might want to try pat drying the hashbrowns. You need to break out the XL. I need to season mine. But it won't be any time soon. Going to get pretty frigid up here for the next week or so.
I have to admit it does look pretty tasty, but I don’t think one of those would cut it for me. I need two of them and you are correct about the hot sauce little franks
I plan too. I am new to pie iron cooking so I will get better over time. This was a great recipe, I will make this again and fine tune my cooking technique.
Butter it up first. Try laying your bacon next . Then the potatoes & egg . Rap the bacon over the top, so no matter which side you're on, the bacon is heated first . Just a thought . I have not made one, but it looks great, and I will give it a try . Thank you .
Intangle your nonveg in fork cook on open fire, cut into pieces. Nonveg gets easily cook on open fire. Otherwise first cook only nonveg, make into pieces. Use bread at the base. It won't stick. Best way is cut bread into pieces, mix with egg and salt . Put this at the base and topping. Another way. Otherwise keep rice flour or maize flour, add water and salt, use it as base and for topping. Nothing will stick. Jay bharat.
I was raised that if you cooked it,,you better eat it. esp.on a campout. if you forget the Butter or that can of PaMola,,do Not even Try it!! Lotz Of Butter!! I pound per person/weekend
Paul - those hashbrowns are awesome. I always add a tablespoon of minced onions with the water (hot water to the tip of the line) before rehydration and they are fantastic!

Looked good.. I wonder if cooking the bacon a little before going into the pie iron would have helped.
Thanks for the video brother
Looks delightful as always Chris. More Ghee!!!
I just watched several of your videos for the first time. Just ordered a pie iron. Thanks. What I am going to do camping now.
Thanks for the tasty idea.

I definitely need to try this!
Awesome breakfast man, i wouldn't mind making that when I'm out camping ATB CHRIS 👍
I've got to try this.
Try letting it rest in the pie iron for a few minutes cooling down somewhat and the potatoes may release a bit more easily
Thanks. I am new to pie iron cooking so each meal is a learning experience. Thanks for the suggestion, I will be making this again and will definitely try that.
Agreeable on that that's worked in the kitchen more than once
Olive oil, Shredded moz, crushed tomato, pep, basil, more moz. More olive oil.

Great video! That looked delicious. I hope that you experiment more with the idea and perfect it. ...And then share your secrets.

Tell us about your badass tent.
That is a Luxe MiniPeak XL. A great floorless tent with a stove jack.

Great idea. This is something I definitely need to try again.
I’m not one for the egg but I think adding bacon or ham with the cheese would be tasty
PAM.
Idk if it freezes tho
Great.
One observation try regulating the heat.
Dude said he uses ghee. Me being intrigued I hit subscribe.
It kind of reminds me of the Julia Child episode on SNL.
Now I want to find that episode, lol!

Definitely something I need to try again.
Hash browns out of a milk carton? Whaaaat...?
Dehydrated, lightweight, and easy to prep. Just add hot water and wait 12-14 minutes.

Minced onions would be amazing! Thanks, I will add some to my kitchen kit for the next campout.
Maybe you should try the recipe ahead of time and work out the Kinks before you show it on TH-cam
OMG. No. Just. No.
Looked burnt and crappy 😂😂😂
It was a little overcooked. But it still tasted pretty good. But I will admit it was not my best pie iron breakfast.
Lay bacon in one side first place potato egg and cheese take bacon overlap and put top iron on acid cook
