Organizing a mountain of scrapbooking supplies! Where to even start?

Mira has been an avid scrapbooker for about 30 years...and it shows! She finds joy through scrapbooking, especially when she is feeling a little down. We all need a hobby like that. But her scrapbook room has become out of control with all of the supplies she has bought over the years. She had some professional organizers come help her about five years ago to create some order and give her some storage for all of her supplies, which helped tremendously, but Mira has ADHD as well as limited stamina and doesn't always have the desire, the energy, nor the know-how to keep it under control and things just piled up. I, along with another TH-camr here in Utah, Ali, helped Mira tackle this overwhelming pile of stuff to give her a creative space to do her scrapbooking. Mira is getting rid of a lot of supplies and paring it down to a more manageable amount of stuff while Ali and I helped to, first, go through everything to see what is there and remove any items that don't belong in the scrapbook room and then helped to organize it after Mira has sorted through stuff. This is just the first half of this enormous task, so there will be a lot of progress, but we are not finished yet. That will be in the next video.
I do talk about how I tackle an overwhelming mountain of stuff like this and how to break it down into a more manageable task. I hope you are able to pick up some tips as well as just have some fun watching the progress and hanging out with Mira, Ali, and I.

Sadly my house is the same, well worse , I'm a Craft hoarder and literally have no room anywhere in my house, after over 15 years of collecting craft supplies I will "hopefully" with God and my families help I will be starting to declutter and clean out my craft home. Hopefully... it's hard when you have depression, anxiety, adhd, fibromyalgia and other health issues, thank you for this video it gave me a bit of hope!
You sound very similar to Mira and all that she's dealing with. It is so hard to find that motivation when you are depressed, anxious, have ADHD and other health issues. I am actually working on my next video right now which will be all about helping a friend or family member who is struggling. I'm hoping it inspires more people to look for ways to help people in their community. It sounds like you have family around who could possibly help you and that's great. It's sad to think about the people who have no family or friends around to help and are just struggling alone. I wish you the best and I'm glad this video gave you a little hope!🥰🙏

So many similarities, here. Doing a bit each day while caring for an adult and a dog, with many issues of my own. It is hard, but every day God wakes me up I continue the fight.

Thank you for helping her, Bonnie. We have a place near where I live called the Scrap Exchange. They take surplus crafting supplies and do free programs with children in poorer areas who don’t have much in the way of enrichment activities. If there’s something similar near Mira she might get a great sense of satisfaction donating a lot of the paper etc that will be hard for her to use up.
I absolutely love that idea! I'm sure there's got to be something around here like that and I think she really would love to just give some of her supplies away for an awesome cause like that!
A free craft-program for children in poorer area's...that sounds "bleep" awesome! I mean: it keeps childeren buzy and therefore of the street, it helps them develop their natural creativity and maybe other skills, and it shows them there are people who care about spending time with them!
Yes- we donate to the local elementary school and I love the idea of sharing goods with those who cannot afford this or might not naturally access it in their world. Great idea and thanks for sharing as it makes me more aware.
I donated a lot of scrapbook supplies to our children’s hospital. They were very appreciative!
Public libraries and Salvation Army might also gladly accept art supplies

Mira, You’re an amazing woman. You got this. And let me just say, I’ve NEVER heard you have anything but a sweet voice with people around you. You never come off as mean spirited or bossy or pushy. And you have lots of extenuating circumstances and you’ve been working on your place all by yourself and you ve actually created your own channel to help others and create motivation for yourself. You’re going it! Bonnie is super fast, and that helps, you see change faster, but I bet she enjoys helping you out more so than just about anyone else. And the pups are so fun and funny. Mira, I am neurodivergent myself, with emotional stuff I'm still dealing with, plus I'm an artistic type with a huge love of anything involving music, cooking, journaling, scrapbook paper, markers, etc. And I am in a small-ish space, so I absolutely have to watch how much I order from places like Temu, Amazon, etc. So I totally understand how things can quite literally pile up and overwhelm. 🤗
I'm so glad you were able to bring in a helpful person that was there as a supportive soul who didn't judge. Judgmental people have zero idea how much their judgments re-trigger everything and set others back. It's why I love the sentiment of: "Be kind. Some people are fighting battles you cannot see."

Its so dangereous to have little dogs and to have a messy floor. They can swallow and cannot poop it and to take it out dog should have a big cut in operation. Bcareful pls. floor should be clean. Owner should take a good care of it. Bolt is hyper young and not like the white one. Pls. Inform the owner nothing on the floor must be a rule. If she drops detergend or pills or any other chemical probably he will find it. And thank you for great work!❤

Mira has such a pretty house and great taste in furnishings. It's evident that there was a baseline for organization with her home, but that avalanche of her being so sick and losing her loved ones really threw her off. It's totally uplifting to see her resolve and you teaming up with her to get things back on track. You ladies totally rock!❤
I am a scrapbooker so I recognize so much in that room. A couple of years ago I purged and organized my room. It feels so great and I can honestly say nothing was missed. This is great work and you are great😊

You are awesome. I can see this room becoming discombobulated again. Trash cans for recycling and trash in general need to be put in there, and a quick tidy after working in the room would help. I hope she keeps the clean going because it looks like it can be an awesome space to craft in. ❤❤ if she buys something, she needs to put it away instead of just putting it down.
I expect that any kind of craft room becomes a little out of control sometimes. Hopefully it never gets this out of control again.😊 The fact that she is getting rid of so much will definitely help. I'm heading back up there this week to organize things a little better after she has gone through many more boxes and gotten rid of a bunch of supplies.

What an amazing thing to do for Mira and others. First time seeing your channel.
Many times people do not realize the trauma of major life changes on a person. I experienced significant deaths in fairly close proximity and other life changes - including 2020. Few had the capacity to truly understand and be compassionate to help and allow for what I was going through. So I do understand that kind of thing.
Sounds like you have a new friendship with Mira?
And that water bottle? Dogs sure like them. I saw once where you place the bottle in a sock, tie the top of the sock off and they just love playing with them. My dogs have been a bit too aggressive in tearing it up. I think I took the caps off the bottles. But at some point I take them away from the dogs for safety sake.

Yes, I'm definitely coming to understand how much trauma can play a role in mental health. Someone can be perfectly fine one day and then sink into a deep depression for years because of a traumatic event. It's really sad to see. I'm sorry about your losses.😔

Just curious, not asking in a mean way. Once you scrap book vacations, family stuff, make one for friends or family, what else would she need all this stuff for? Seems like she could donate a lot of it and still have plenty but maybe I’m not thinking outside the box.

As a crafter, we always buy way more than we will ever use.... The saying goes crafting and collecting crafting supplies are two separate hobbies.... lol... but seriously, I learned the hard way, too much stuff is never used... selling rarely ever covers the original cost and not even worth the hassle ... and the worst part of a craft hoard, is crafting supplies have an expiration date and become unuseable.
Very good question. She actually does a great job of explaining all of that on her version of the Scrapbook room. I linked it in the description if you want to go check that out. But, yes, she is definitely getting rid of a ton of this stuff. She just needs more time to go through it. I know she's been working hard on going through boxes this last couple of weeks and I'm heading back up there on Wednesday to try to put things away a little better now that she has gone through so much of it.
This was a great video! I loved the folding. I have terrible spatial skills and it makes me bad at folding, but I’m going to try to remember how you did those blankets. We have approximately one million blankets, quilts, and throws in this house, and they’d take up less room and look nicer folded that way, so thanks! I don’t mind doing laundry, but I’m such a sloppy folder.
I have been eagerly waiting for this video Bonnie as I saw Mira’s on Thursday and knew yours must be following shortly. As I am a fellow crafter I know only too well how easy it is to firstly accumulate many supplies and how difficult it is to keep them in order, it’s a constant battle. I would love to tell a little bit about how I grew up and what I did for chores, etc. However, I have to tread lightly as my mom has been in several of my videos now and, though I have learned to appreciate her strengths, my upbringing was a little chaotic and I feel like I would be "outing" my parents in some ways if I did that. I'm mostly talking about my dad. It's complicated. This probably doesn't do much to explain what I'm talking about, but I had a very interesting childhood, let's just say. So, if I ever do talk about any of that, I would have to stay on the safe side of things. 😬😊

Craft hoards are insane because it’s so so much little stuff. I say this without judgement because I have ny own craft room in need of cleaning after watching your video and knowing my space isn’t that scary, I’m going to skip on down to the basement and spend my Saturday night cleaning.

Folding the laundry was relaxing for me. Learned how to fold blankets better. Yes, I want to see a video of you sorting card stock, etc.
I will hopefully have the video of sorting paper out either today or tomorrow.
I enjoyed watching this video. I love helping people clean and organize their rooms, especially their craft rooms. Also, YES! I watched you fold the laundry too. I also love folding the towels and blanket/quilts in the Trifold design. FYI! When you fold a blanket/quilt in the trifold way, try putting them inside the matching shams, if it is not to thick. This will allow them to be stored and found together or displayed on the guest bed ready to use.
Just a suggestion …I recycle and when it comes to water bottles take the top off flatten it down then put the top back on save a ton of room.
Maybe ask your recyclers first - ours wants them untrusted & with the lids on - something to do with how their machines work
Bonnie, you are just a dynamo! I wish you could bottle that energy and sell some of it to me, lol. I think that you do more for Mira than just help her declutter - I think your loving companionship and acceptance of Mira as Mira has done her a world of good. I hope you continue with your channel even though right now you may wonder why with all the difficulties you have been facing, but I hope that know you are a bright spot in a world that seems progressively darker.

But...my favorite part of this video might be folding laundry. I love to fold laundry. It's my meditation. Gives me calm and peace to make it just so and have a big pile end up in pretty little stacks.

These items seem fun to sort through I guess because of so many colours. I know Mira must be feeling so much better to get this room sorted & so glad she has people she can sell some items too.
