    You wouldn't believe, I was struggling all day to make a video embedded on a static background image for my business. Using FCP after many years I was struggling to remember how to use it. Then I came home and watched your video (talk about good timing). Downloaded Keynote and had the little video file made in no time. Thanks Gary!!

    If Apple would duplicate the Keynote app, get rid of the "side" function, and instead create a timeline function in its place, bake the rest of the features of Motion into it for the advanced users, this would be an After Effects killer! In my honest opinion! I often create effects in Keynote, with a transparent background, and then bring them into Davinci Resolve but this method has it's purpose as well! Thanks, Gary for the tips and tricks!

    Dang I was so hopeful… and was afraid at the end I would find out it is more difficult to do on long videos.
    Thinking a great next tutorial would be how to take clips from and iMovie into several ides. Add the things you showed here and then export back out.
    Also thinking. Maybe I just export a clip like this into iMovie and then shorten the clip in iMovie?

    Gary - you are amazing, sir! I LOVE your videos and look forward to them. As to your closing comment about having effects appear only in certain places in a movie, could you do all the animation and effects on a transparent background slide, export the slide, then attach just that one slide to someplace in a movie timeline so the effects appear just over that segment of the movie?

      A video is a video -- it plays from start to end. It sounds like you want some sort of interactive app where people can click buttons and control what is shown? That can be built as a website or an app, but not a video.

  • @GallicGarlic

    Great information!!
    Maybe someone here can help me...I am trying to export a single Keynote slide as a movie, and currently it keeps the video feature and will play when exported. However, I also have an audio clip with a "play" button, and that part doesn't stick when I export. Any ideas on how I can get everything to export on the single Keynote slide?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Go to the Animate sidebar, then click Build Order at the bottom. Select the audio element in the list and change it to After Transition. Maybe that will do it. Otherwise, you can always add in the audio separately in iMovie or whatever video app you are using. That's usually the most versatile solution.

    This was great, thank you! Can you animate text on a path in this way?

    • @badcatdesign
      @badcatdesign 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd like to see that too! You could probably break the text apart into characters and animate (with timing delays and rotations etc) each on the path, but I doubt that's what you're really looking for. Usually this is a job for After Effects or Apple Motion. Here's Gary talking about Motion Paths. th-cam.com/video/cPwPoWlDG7Y/w-d-xo.html

    Hi Gary, Thank you for these beautiful tricks! I was looking for how to add a clickable link to a movie. Do you have a trick like that?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can't. It would be up to the video playback software to enable such a feature. After you make a video, it could be viewed by someone in any number of video playback apps in any number of operating systems. However, if you post the video to a website, like TH-cam, then sometimes those sites have the ability to put links on top of the videos. It depends on the site how that works and what is possible. But usually you do it after iMovie and after uploading, in the web site creator's interface.

    • @mariondejong4424
      @mariondejong4424 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@macmost Thank you Gary, I was afraid that would be the case. I will have to stick with referring to 'the link below'.

    I'm not getting a "With Build __" option when trying to apply animations of scale and flip simultaneously to an object in the animate panel, only "On Click" and "After Build__". What am I doing wrong? i.e. can I add 2 animation options to one object, e.g. a logo flipping and scaling down at the same time?

    • @DoctorMortar
      @DoctorMortar 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You probably have a delay in one of the builds. That stops the build below from building with or after a build higher on the list until the delay is finished.

    • @darrenalbertson-digitaldus6227
      @darrenalbertson-digitaldus6227 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Could you click on just one clip in your iMovie timeline and make edit to it in keynote ?

    • @macmost

      It isn't that easy. You need to bring the video file into Keynote like I show.

  • @tyik

    After watching this video, I try to embed a video to the keynote presentation. I have the first slide as the title and the video file next. The animation of the video file is set to "Start Movie" in Built in. However when it plays, it skips the video file and goes straight to the third slide. Tried many times still got the same result. Have I done anything wrong?

    • @macmost
      @macmost  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hard to tell. Are you playing from the first slide? Try playing around with the controls and I'm sure you'll figure it out.

      @@macmost Thank you for the prompt reply. I did start from the first slide. Hopefully I will sort it out.

    • @tyik
      @tyik 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@macmost Finally I worked it out. For the animation, I have to set built in and built out for the video. And set the delay for the build out which will be the length of the clip. If there is no delay time for the built out, it will go to the next slide.
