Jim Chapin “Salt Peanuts” exercise. Section IV B, exercise 2, pdf link.

Each section of Advanced Techniques for The Modern Drummer ends with several melodic exercises that are based on popular tunes. Those tunes were not identified in the book because so many of them would have been recognizable to drummers in 1948 when the book was published. Today, however it’s not as likely that drummers will recognize many of them by their rhythms, so Jim identifies each one in a magazine article. Pdf link below.

There are many great tunes referenced however, IC is based on Boff, Boff, or (Mop, Mop) which is what Max Roaches’ for Big Sid is based on.
