Jarrett, As a mom of a young man I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for believing in him and taking Anthony’s case. You are his miracle! My brother spent 30 years in prison. He was not a bad kid. He grew up with our abusive dad and never had a chance. All of our boys need a father/mentor like you. Thank you for all you did and are doing to make a difference in the world. 🙏🏼♥️

The parental guidance/mentorship is wonderful. He needs this more than the money. Thank you for helping this young man! Anthony, I’m so happy for you. Stick close to successful mentors who have your back and can guide you because they’ve done it. I hope you create a meaningful and fulfilling life.

Jarrett, you are a true hero. You literally saved Anthony's life and freedom working pro bono. One typically doesn't escape the system without being able to afford a great attorney like yourself. He can have a life now because of you. Anthony is naturally intelligent despite having no formal education and he has handled his horrific situation with Burt as best as one could. Wish you both the best of luck.

First let me say. I am grateful for the emotional and financial support Anthony has received. Please do not pass judgment, if you do not know the entire story. Half Yard Productions filmed from August 2019 till 3/21/2021. There was so much more to the story then was told. I could not legally take Anthony with me. Had I taken him we would have been hunted down like dogs. I made a promise to Anthony when I left. I would be there to help him. Upon leaving I and several of my family members made several calls to Social Services. Making them aware that it was not stable in the home. I also noted on my protective order the death threats to me and that there were guns and knives in the home. Each call to Social Services ended with "there's not enough to investigate". As he was incarcerated, I diligently worked on his freedom. A family member of mine put me in touch with Mr. Ambeau. I signed the pro bono contract on Anthony's behalf. And put Jarrett in touch with Anthony. I was then contacted by Half Yard Productions out of New York. I explained to them that we would not be a Lifetime Story. I wanted to be informative. I met with a representative who flew in from New York to discuss the potential documentary. I signed the filming contract with Half Yard Productions. Who later completed a deal with Netflix. And spoke with Mr. Ambeau, who was initially against it. Then later agreed to the filming if it would benefit Anthony. I was present at every court appearance. And Peyton and I picked Anthony up upon release 12/18/2019. I provided a roof and food for Anthony, while we battled the court system. Court proceedings ended on 3/21/2021. I spoke with Mr. Ambeau and we both agreed that Anthony needed to get out on his own. And, it was time. This is why we separated on 4/1/2021. I did the best I could for my stepson. I created the Global mentioning of Mr. Ambeau and Anthony. In hopes it would give him the greatly needed attention and funds for a successful road of recovery. I myself and disabled from back injuries suffered from blows to my back from a baseball bat. Ant now am working on repairing my teeth from being busted out. And also, emotional recovery. Please do not bash someone who was an emotional wreck and did the best she could. I am grateful for Mr. Ambeau and the time he has given to my stepson. I achieved what promised and much more. I was able to eventually free my stepson and set him up for the best road to recovery I could create for him. I am so excited to see how he progresses with these opportunities that he has been given...

I hope that you are able to heal from your wounds, both seen and unseen. I know you did the best you could. It was touching to see how you were trying to educate Anthony. Mother to mother: ❤

@@CK-pj9sk Thank you, I am still working on myself. I have a GoFundMe, it is under Susan Templet. If you can help or share to people. I am trying to fix my teeth that Burt damaged. I have abscesses in my mouth that I drain myself. Medicaid won't pay for surgical extraction. My plan of care is included in the GoFundMe..
Bless you, you are one of the few that understand how limited my options were legally. Had I taken Anthony, Burt would have hunted us like dogs. Anthony and i would be dead. And Burt would probably escape the legal system again somehow. I seem to be, the Stepmother who left Anthony with the monster...God bless 🙌

Dear Susan, watching the documentary we could see you a great mom and your son a good brother to Anthony. You tried to help him in every way you could. I haven't seen one single comment judging you. The fact that Anthony left your place doesn't mean anything bad, just that he needs to follow his own path to find himself away from his past and everything that reminds him of it. Let's hope he invests that money in his education and works in something he truly enjoys and that he is also capable of having a stable relationship with his girlfriend. From the interview, I see he still has a long way to go, but he has the best tutor and friend in his Attorney. I hope you heal soon too.

I'm a trauma therapist, and I was so frustrated in the first two episodes watching the district attorney and others completely miss what was really happening for Anthony emotionally and psychologically. It's good to see him being much more open and present in the conversation with Jarrett. The doc, especially the district attorney, mentioned his affect many times. In this instance he has greatly improved. He is also goal oriented and is talking about things he is currently experiencing, including money and fame, in as age appropriate a manner as he is capable. It's astonishing to me how far he has come, and I hope he continues to grow and mature into the person he was meant to be. 🙏

It is my hope that Anthony gets with an amazing trauma therapy. He doesn't think he needs it. Neither did I. It actually saved my life. I watched the 2023 update and my take away is it can only help him with the things he talks about that he is struggling with as far as interaction with people.

Mr. Ambeau, what a kind, generous, smart, warm-hearted person you are! You literally saved that child's life. Your actions were selfless. There are not words to describe what you have done, especially since this situation most likely took an emotional toil on you because you had to relive your own abuse. The picture of you as a little boy broke my heart. You were so precious. I'm glad there are people like you in the world. Hopefully your work will help the "justice" system change when dealing with abuse victims.

I’ve just finished watching the series and it is such incredibly powerful stuff. I feared for most of it that the lack of evidence of physical abuse was going to cause a huge miscarriage of justice. It’s so important that the damage of psychological abuse, emotional abuse and neglect are recognised equally for what they are. Abuse goes much deeper than just cuts and bruises. Jarrett, you’ve done simply an amazing thing; well done, Sir! Anthony, I wish you a long, successful, happy and secure life; what every human being deserves. All the best to you both!

    Dear Anthony,
I don't know whether you will read these lines or not.
    I wish you would.
I would like to take this moment to thank you!
I want to thank you for never giving up on yourself!!!
Growing up in this environment with such a perfidious parent and having to live in all these circumstances with no hope...having to spend all your time as you did, is something that not everyone survives and, above all,...it is an absolute challenge that you have mastered with the greatest bravura there is in this world and in this universe!!!
Thank you for never giving up on yourself and for maintaining your kind-heartedness and enormous goodness in living and being, despite everything you have experienced.
Thank you for being alive,...thank you for being who you are,...thank you for sharing all of this with us.
May every day that passes be an enrichment for you on the level that means so much to you.
May every day that passes show you how wonderful life is and what blessings life has in store for you, on various levels.
May each new day give you hope and show you what an absolutely special person you are and may you experience unconditional love in many different ways in your life.
I send you my deepest sympathy and wish you from the bottom of my heart that you will always meet people in your life who have a such as beautiful and fascinating being as you have.
You are absolutely an enrichment for every person who gets to know you.
You have so much that is fascinating...inside and outside, please keep this --> your being.
Thank you for being alive and thank you for never giving up on yourself!!!
I send unconditional love and pure appreciation your way...
Much gratitude that you exist and I am thankful that you are alive!!!
    Greetings from Germany
    Bless

Anthony and Jarrett - I hope you continue with counseling and seeking education. Obviously being raised in isolation has greatly impacted your ability to interact with a world you never experienced and are now of an age where everyone expects you to already know how to be. Spend some fun money, but definitely spend the greater portion on getting supportive services that help you get health mentally and emotionally and take that into getting an education beyond high school in something that will support you as an independent adult. Anthony, stay listening to Jarrett. He has your interest at heart. Listen to him, take his guidance seriously. He loves you and wants the best for you.

I’ve been rooting for this kid. However,
I am slightly off put by his comments on the fame, money, and recognition that he’s received. I do remember being his age and wanting the same things, and certainly being held back will make you hunger for those things even more, especially if you’re predisposed to narcissistic behavior. I think it’s highly important for him to have a humble and thankful attitude towards this whole situation. His supporters and you are the only reason he is not behind bars. He has an uphill climb to success. The money he’s been given is an excellent stepping stone, but his attitude towards it kind of makes me feel like he thinks he’s already made it. Kudos to you for helping him understand that success is a continuous process and it requires work and dedication. Hopefully he will take this advice to heart and do great things. We’re in your corner Anthony!

We have to remember this kid went through a traumatic life growing up, he is probably age regressed due to this trauma and he doesn't know any other way to react. Just getting him to open up, get a job, complete his education and even talk to people is remarkable.

    • @MoekoBrooks

When you live in that environment (Louisiana) that’s pretty much a lot of what he hears, “making money” etc. He acknowledges that he needs to leave that environment. Also, trauma and low self esteem causes for people to not be able to articulate their thoughts the way they would like to. He’s on the right path considering that all of the odds were against him.

First, thank you, Jarrett, for being Anthony’s guardian angel, mentor, positive father figure, big brother, and friend. Second, the 10,000 hours struck me, as Anthony lit up as he mentioned gaming. I would encourage you to do an apprenticeship at a game developer company to learn other aspects of the industry. Third, Anthony, you’ve been given a REAL chance at a life well lived, so please do everything it takes to make your marks for probation, schooling, and the court system. It’s hard work, and with encouragement from millions in cyberspace, only YOU can do the work. Lean on those who shine positive light on you, and there you will find strength. Blessings to you, Jarrett and Kayla!

I first want to say Jarrett, you are so right, that people who saw the documentary feel connected, that makes us human. As a mother, I want to applaud Anthony for his character and strength to endure and begin to truly live and thrive as he starts his journey of learning, both academic and learning who he is, what HE likes, what HE wants to know more about and what HE chooses to pursue. Most adults take years (often decades) to find d themselves, and to heal.
Anthony, take the time to breathe and just see the world around you and build your connections to all it has for you. You deserve all the love and laughter one could ever have.
And Jarrett, I am so deeply touched by your strength and gifts in this case. You make this world a better place. One of hope and love.
May you both enjoy every day and continue to celebrate and be celebrated.
Finally, as a ‘math person’, I want to tell Anthony that one caring teacher can help flip the switch on for the logic of math (which can truly be a simple process I promise;). You never know…you may get the math bug!
Sending lots of love from Atlanta, GA. If you ever want a lead on schooling or work here, please let me know, happy to help.
    Cheers!!🎉

What a great job you did. You actually saved this young man's life. Watching the documentary, I could totally understand the D.A.'s concern about Anthony's character and lack of empathy but going deeper into his past, you can totally understand that he couldn't discern between good and bad because he lived practically secluded his last years with his dad who constantly abused him. I truly believed he was scared for his life that day when his dad broke the door of the room he was in. I understand his circumstances, but like one of the jury said, he still killed someone and should do some time; however, in this particular case I'm so glad the DA read the situation very clearly and wisely. I really wish Anthony the best. 2 years after all of this happened, you could see some change in him. It broke my heart the way he cried. He needs constant care by a psychologist that understands him, but those around him shouldn't put so much pressure on him expecting him to become some outstanding figure, it's good enough that he studies and becomes a productive member of the society. I'll be praying for him and for those who suffer abuse at an early age.

What an incredible story and life this young man has had. It’s heartbreaking to know how many people failed him in life. So grateful that you were brought into his life. God knew he needed you. I believe so many people out there are thanking you for saving this young man and for all that you continue to do. Family is not always about who you come from, it’s about who loves, supports and cares for you. What a blessing it is that he has that now. He deserves all good things. God bless you all. Thoroughly enjoyed watching this interview, after I today watched the Netflix video, and became au fait with the very unfortunate circumstances Anthony endured at such a young age.
Very happy to see that Anthony has pulled through successfully and that so many people support and care for him. It was a God sent that Anthony's path crossed with a wonderful caring man such as Jarrett Ambeau.
All the very very very best wishes for the future, Anthony. We pray for only continued success for you. Big hugs from New Zealand.

What a blessing for you, Anthony! I know what you experienced. There's hopelessness, constant pain, and the fear of how it may resolve. The mental torment causes physical pain that's unbearable. We just want to stop the pain.
I'm sad that you were abused for so long.
Your lawyer/friend seems to be a good mentor. I don't know you and him, but he seems to give great advice.
Perhaps you may need a few more mentors as you learn what you want for your life. As you get to grow up and all this life stuff keeps needing to be learned so quickly, I hope for you comfort, joy, peace, and good solid relationships.
    Best to you!

I’m really pleased to see this interview and it seems as if Anthony is coming out of his shell, per se. My only concern is the money aspect. I’m assuming Jarrett, that you, or someone else has been appointed as trustee? Anthony seems to think his life will be easy now that he has all this money, and maybe he doesn’t have to work, etc? I also would hate for him to become a target of some sophisticated manipulator who could take advantage of his naïvety. I only want the best for him, he has so much life to catch up on and so much to learn. Thank you for being not only being his lawyer, but a guiding presence in his life! All the best Anthony!

Agree with you. Its dangerous when this money and fame gets in the head. And 90k is not really a lot if nothing is coming in. When all that money is spent, then what? He should grab this opportunity now and make the best of it while all is still smooth.

Jarrett you saved Anthony's life, and I have to ask a little more from You for Anthony. I have parents that care for me their 49 years daughter, but it's a crazy world and even with parents it has been very hard to live, it's confusing, my parents kept also in a kind of a bubble and I was physically abused by My mother, but i went to school and have lived around aunts, cousins, uncles, grandparents and Friends all My life. For someone like Anthony to be out into the world like that with money!!! He needs to have close counseling, a psychologist to help him understand himself and the world around him. It's a huge responsability you have aquired with Anthony, but also you have us, people who care for this world to be better for everyone! Saludos from México city

And peace. I hope you find peace in your heart. I hope you can really reconnect with your biological mom and grandma and give them a chance to be part of your life. Their lives were torn apart too by what your father did. They were also victims. They need your love too just as you need love. They were stuck in a vicious pattern of abuse and were not able to protect you but maybe now you can help them just as others are helping you. But only when you are ready. I hope that he has been able to move on and find not only a life of his own but also actual joy and peace. You nailed it. People felt connected to him. I sure did!!! I was surprised the documentary didn’t touch on how abused people present. Especially from such severe isolation. He didn’t have the words to express what was happening or maybe even the concept because for him it was normalized. I’m so glad you’re following up with him because it’s a long road to recovery especially with the effects trauma has in the brain. I just want to give him a hug and I want to donate, too.

Just watched the documentary and my heart of full of love for Anthony. Such innocence and deep-set vulnerability…how in heavens were you expected to deal with real life danger when you’ve never been allowed any kind of autonomy or personal experience in your young life after 5? And seems that from birth you were subject to witnessing violence and brutality. Instinct is a powerful force and it was painfully clear that you acted out of a desperate need to survive from as Jarrett says, was a hopeless situation. Anthony, I send you the biggest virtual hug I can muster all the way from Dubai. Look how your story has wrapped around the planet and touched so many hearts. Btw…we are unschoolers and I absolutely love what you said here in this podcast about following you passion and then ending up doing something that doesn’t feel like work because you love it so much. I hope you find your passion and that it fills you with joy while providing you with a living so you are safe in life. Kaila seems lovely by the way. It was so loving of you to let her jump-on in the end and show that side of you too. Jarrett is an incredible man…I hope that fatherly figure he presents in your life continues to grow and guide as it appears to have done so far. Big love to you, Kaila and Jarrett ❤️❤️❤️

Hello I am from Germany. I just watched the documentary on netflix. I was very impressed and emotionally touched. At first you thought everything was perfectly clear and then you were shocked. How much suffering can a child endure? Everything is a bit different in Germany, so you're always amazed how something like that can happen. In Germany, every child has to go to school. As a mother and also as a victim of domestic violence, I don't understand why nobody got you out of the situation. It was probably difficult for the others myself. Of course you can't kill people, but I understand you thought you had no choice. Nobody would help you, wouldn't get you out of the situation. I sincerely hope that now that you are doing well in school you can have a very happy life. But please don't mess up ever again. Get away from such situations. Please smile, you are allowed to and you don't have to feel bad about it. I sincerely wish you the best.
