I took a ride up there today. Unfortunately, the museum is closed on Sundays. I was blown away by how much glass was for sale in that shop! I picked up 2 Uranium Crackle Glass Plates, 2 Uranium Custard Glass Plates, 2 Vaseline wine glasses and a very radioactive piece of Orange Fiestaware. It's only 30 minutes up the road for me, so I'll be back soon for more glass. Thanks again for the video.

Just started collecting this year myself and I'm hooked. Recently got a soap dish that's in the shape of a woman in the bath and a shot glass. Definitely over the moon with my finds. What book was it that you use to identify the pieces?\
I use Mauzy's Depression Glass by Barbara and Jim Mauzy to identify some of my pieces. This book is definitely for the more typical and mainstream dinnerware and five and dime store depression glass. Those pieces that you found sound so interesting! To be honest I have never seen a soap dish (maybe I have and thought it was an ashtray?). @@hectorrodriguez9219 thank you so much!! I'll keep posting new videos! That's awesome that you collect marbles and paper weights, I have seen them everywhere and find them beautiful but I don't know much about them yet!
I completely understand what you mean! I would say that if you are buying a piece from Erich (the uranium glass collection's owner) then you may have to pay a pretty penny depending on the piece. He is an incredibly knowledgeable person that watches Ebay sales a lot, so he knows the market value of just about every piece he owns. The items at the other booths seemed reasonably priced, though.
I've never heard of a demitasse glass. Thank you so much for the information! I'll spend some time looking into them to learn more about them. Also thank you for the identification of the other piece, its amazing how much I can learn from people like you in the comments section😊
@@kimscollectibles7247 hey, kim, a demitasse is a sort of fancy word for kinda saying small/tiny coffee cup, and the reason i believe what you had's demitasse is because it appeared to have a handle on the side rather than just being the regular cylindrical shape of a shot glass; in other words the piece appeared to be a (coffee) cup rather than a glass. demitasse were/are used for fancier coffee drinks like espresso and such. also, in case i didn't mention it before, i enjoyed your video very much. i've been collecting (my house looks like a messy antique shop), and really mainly kitchen items since that's where i spend most of my time, for about 50 years, and i absolutely loved your enthusiasm.
Thank you! I'll have to do some more research and look into it some more. I didn't even think to consider looking at the handle shapes to help with identification!
ah that sounds familiar. thinking about copper cookware (- and how it can leach into acidic foods like tomatoes etc..) ^had to look it up - the last part is just a direct reference but copper pans are mostly (- lined with a non-reactive metal) *just another reference from the same search result
It's important to remember that if you hold a piece of that glass against your face for two hours it is equivalent to a dental x-ray. So,it does add up. Thank you for the great video! I love this stuff.
Oh my gosh are you for real!? I did not know that it was that much radiation! I was told that it had insignificant amounts, now granted someone probably wouldn't hold a plate to their face for 2 hours, but that sure doesn't sound insignificant! Thank you so much for the information
Not sure they would be comparable. X rays are composed of powerful ionizing electromagnetic radiation which easily pass through skin and body tissues. U-238 most commonly used in uranium oxide as a colorant emits very very low levels of alph, gamma and beta radiation. Most alpha and beta radiation is blocked by skin, while almost all emitted radiation is blocked even by a simple pane of glass, like in these beautiful display cases. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission and US EPA have studied the risks of uranium glass extensively- Ultimately concluding that these collectables pose very low or no risk, negligible compared to background sources.
@@stephenB49 you really should try reading something other than comments. Obviously no one would hold it to their face for two hours straight, but if you are dumb enough to actually drink out of it you are indeed holding it to your face for seconds many time a day. Early uranium glass can have up to 25%uranium, Wich if you actually could do math you would find it would give you a dental exray dose in around 70minutes. Again,no body is going to hold it to there face for that long straight, but taking swallows all day adds up. There is also the matter of leaching. If you left your food in a dish in fridge all night you would certainly receive a high dose. Do yourself a favor and research before you say something stupid again.
@@kimscollectibles7247 it can have a uranium content of between 2and25%, the early 25%stuff if definitely not something you want to eat from. Because most collectors leave it on the shelf,it's pretty harmless. The average human gets radiation daily from the sun, but a fun fact is most people get their highest radiation dose from bananas!
someone should go here and bring a geiger counter and measure the background radiation in the shop, id imagine itd be higher than background radiation elsewhere
I agree! I would also be interested to know how much radiation is going on in there. I wonder if the people that work in there every day are experiencing an unhealthy amount of radiation. I really hope not!
Just remember to tell everyone that UG glows because it's Fluorescent under UV only . . . NOT b/c it's radioactive ! 😉😇 . . . Like all other Fluorescent Minerals in the rock shops are NOT radioactive (just glow naturally from optical chemistry).

What kind of rock collection? I completely agree with you on the price of uranium pieces. Their popularity has sky rocketed recently, and prices have done the same. I have a few pieces that I display and cherish, but its definitely not the focal point of my glass collection, at least not yet on an intern salary😂
Magnificent video.
Thank you so much!
At 6:20, they don't use a drill to cut glass, drills cut holes, they use a cutting wheel.
Drills are used for much more than cutting holes...depending on the job at hand..such as a cutting wheel or a wire wheel or a screw driver..
Thank you for the information!
Pretty awesome
HI Kim,
New viewer here. Ironically another TH-camr also made a video of this museum. Michael with " The Cult of Vintage. Yesterday or the day before.
What kind of lighting do you use to display your uranium glass ? Where can I buy ?
I got mine off of Amazon. I got a UV light LED Strip that comes with a remote and a battery pack. I think it was around $15 for 10ft of lighting strip
And also I think you are so beautiful and love your sweet voice
Oh my goodness thank you so much!!! You made my whole day! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family🥰😁
You are very welcome and also enjoy your dad and your entire family and yeah with all the respect you look amazing in your video congrats on your cool videos I do have a few of those glass and I also collect vintage paperweights marbles and many other things but please make some more videos beautiful
@@hectorrodriguez9219 thank you so much!! I'll keep posting new videos! That's awesome that you collect marbles and paper weights, I have seen them everywhere and find them beautiful but I don't know much about them yet!
Wow is this place still open?
What state? Where is the museum?
Hawley Pennsylvania
i'd have liked you addressing uranium sounding dangerous.
That would make a great point to this video, thank you! Next time I make a video I will be sure to bring it up😁
So CoooooL!
Love it!!!
Is the pricing on their glass pieces for sale reasonable or overpriced? Antique shops are either one or the other.
Can you help me identify what type of uranium cup I bought with your book?
I can try my best! The book that I have is on common depression glass patterns from the 1930s. Is your cup more of a sherbet or a drinking glass?
the blue glass was moderntone by hazel atlas, and the small cup you picked up was a demitasse cup and not a shot glass.
I've never heard of a demitasse glass. Thank you so much for the information! I'll spend some time looking into them to learn more about them. Also thank you for the identification of the other piece, its amazing how much I can learn from people like you in the comments section😊
@@kimscollectibles7247 hey, kim,
a demitasse is a sort of fancy word for kinda saying small/tiny coffee cup, and the reason i believe what you had's demitasse is because it appeared to have a handle on the side rather than just being the regular cylindrical shape of a shot glass; in other words the piece appeared to be a (coffee) cup rather than a glass. demitasse were/are used for fancier coffee drinks like espresso and such.
also, in case i didn't mention it before, i enjoyed your video very much. i've been collecting (my house looks like a messy antique shop), and really mainly kitchen items since that's where i spend most of my time, for about 50 years, and i absolutely loved your enthusiasm.
I don’t think your platter is princess pattern. princess usually has square tab handles. yours reminds me of the cameo/ballerina pattern.
Thank you! I'll have to do some more research and look into it some more. I didn't even think to consider looking at the handle shapes to help with identification!
I love collecting uranium glass
I do too! It's the coolest!
Omg! I just bought that same juicer today! Bought my first uranium glass today, juicer, several plates, 4 glasses!
Congratulations!! How is your collection coming along? Any new and exciting pieces?
It is recommended that you avoid eating or drinking out of uranium glass objects.
This isn't true. You shouldn't store acidic foods or liquids in them. Or breath in the dust if you break one. Otherwise they are safe.
I drank from a uranium juicer almost daily since I was a kid thinking it was just normal glass... no cancer yet ;)
question is.. would you drink water from a green glass pitcher like those?
Yeah I would! I would be hesitant to drink lemonade tho because I heard the acid from the citrus can cause some leeching, but I could be mistaken
ah that sounds familiar. thinking about copper cookware (- and how it can leach into acidic foods like tomatoes etc..)
^had to look it up - the last part is just a direct reference
but copper pans are mostly (- lined with a non-reactive metal)
*just another reference from the same search result
First, that's not true. Why would someone hold it against their face for two hours? If you just need attention, get a dog.
Very informative video
Thank you papa!!!
someone should go here and bring a geiger counter and measure the background radiation in the shop, id imagine itd be higher than background radiation elsewhere
I agree! I would also be interested to know how much radiation is going on in there. I wonder if the people that work in there every day are experiencing an unhealthy amount of radiation. I really hope not!
@@kimscollectibles7247That's a very good question just because of the mass quantity. I wonder if the owner's know the answer to that.
Just remember to tell everyone that UG glows because it's Fluorescent under UV only . . . NOT b/c it's radioactive ! 😉😇
. . . Like all other Fluorescent Minerals in the rock shops are NOT radioactive (just glow naturally from optical chemistry).
I have a bottom to a washbasin.
Btw- the platter in your personal collection is the "Cameo Ballerina" pattern, not "Princess" 🙂
You're adorable ❤
Love. It thanks for sharing thought I had alot
Ikr! I couldn't imagine having a glass collection that big! Inspirational!
@@kimscollectibles7247 my whole kitchen glowslol
@@nanettemiller4462 Does it really!? That's amazing! Do you have black lights installed in your kitchen?
@@kimscollectibles7247 yep Walmart ten dollars I have four open shelves in a farmhouse kitchen I live in a 1929 bungalow I have pink as well mix and match for Easter plus I mix in bunnies on nest I love to decorate lol
@@nanettemiller4462 I absolutely love everything 1920s! I bet your home and your table set up are such an impressive sight during the holidays! I just got a new China closet, I will have to look into getting some black lights installed into it for my uranium pieces
This child has a vast knowledge of the glass thanks girlfriend for the tour
Is having all that Uranium around really a good idea?
I have asked myself the same question for sure. I personally only have about 5 pieces, but I would love to know what the Geiger counter reading would be on a room with that much uranium glass in it
I feel like I need lead drapes to go in there!
Haha or at least one of those lead aprons they put on you when you go to get an x-ray!
Wow!
That was my reaction too! Breath taking!
I had no idea the largest collection was in PA :00
Ikr! What are the odds!?
Fun 😎👍
Thank you!!
Don't know why player pianos spook you but they were the first versión of the bike box .
My aunt give me bunch of plates and cups and find out this week it was uranium...
Wow!!!! What an amazing gift from your Aunt! Uranium glass is in such high demand right now, everyone wants some of the "radioactive glowing glass"
I would watch longer but I always like to know the prices.
I will keep that in mind for the future! I also love to know prices when I watch other people's videos, it helps me understand that values of things in the market
@@kimscollectibles7247 That's good, Kim. It's good to take constructive criticism My comments was to help your channel and I'm glad you took it that way. That's what winners do! Good luck and much success!
@@lkj7296 Thank you for the encouragement and well wishes!!! I appreciate it so much!
Do you collect marbles?
I haven't given marbles much thought, actually. I know that there are some that can be particularly valuable? I heard some have copper swirls in them? I would love to learn more about them.
Nope, Moderntone was made by Hazel Atlas.....
I'm sorry about that! Thank you for letting me know! I'll make sure not to misspeak about that again😊
@Kim's vintage obsessions, sweetheart, I believe that I have the largest collection of Anchor-Hocking's Manhattan.....came out in
1938, the year my parents were married....... display it, but never use it, unless I am having a soiree, and need something for veggies
and dip.....I also have many pieces of Park Avenue, Manhattan's baby sister......in dark green......I believed that Block Optic was produced
by Hazel Atlas, but you proved me wrong......got tons of that, packed away, below the stairs, so thank you.....
@@valeriejewell2015 oh my goodness! That sounds like the collection of my dreams! That's so special that your collection has a history with your parents. The stories behind antiques make them so much more valuable. I love Manhattan and Park Avenue patterns, they look so geometric and futuristic to me
i'm sure she did as good a job as she could, but i'm pretty sure that small piece she picked up's demitasse and NOT a shot glass. (she picked it up by a small handle?) what do you think.
