I have a 2008 1.4 diesel Fiesta in today Peter - running like a bag of spanners. Its been everywhere, poked by everyone & still runs crap. TDCI.. Owner has almost given up at this stage & I don't blame them. Last "Diagnostics" "Expert" said it needed new injectors.. new injectors came in with the car - so I fitted them. Still ran like a bag of crap. No codes stored. In my head, it was an EGR fault. I took a look at the EGR - the last boys had obviously tried change it, rounded off the bolt heads, failed to get the EGR off & had chucked the "Big Bag Of Fibs" at the owner about injectors instead. No mere bolt is gonna do my head in, so I got the EGR off - took a look inside. Inside is a mess of corroded green muck, the actuator doesn't return to shut as it jams just before & yep, it's an EGR fault.. The ECM had adapted to the new "Zero" position that was miles out.. New EGR ordered - 50 snots. We won't mention what the owner dropped on the 4 new un-needed injectors & all them hours of Diagnostics/fluting about before it came here... Last Lads had every scanner going - all the gear, no Idea.. Sometimes you just need a clued-in mucker & a ground-down 8mm socket that gets the egr off so you can see you were right - it's forked.. It was like a Holiday today, doing the fancy tecchy stuff - usually I am buried in the depths of some big yoke that has terminal corrosion. Ye tecchy Lads don't know how good ye have it. :-) .
😂😂😂 glad to hear you had a handy day. That is a really well explained comment. It can be sometimes very hard to come up with an answer and sometimes a highly technical approach with the likes of Pico scopes can win. But also sometimes a simplistic approach such as cop on & your ears or eyes can sort it over and above them 💪💪 Well done on that fix James
