This review came at a very strange time, as it was just after the second lockdown! Yes, very spacious, practical and easy car to live with, thank you for watching.

Mr Coleman and I actually spoke about the Roomster today. He doesn't actually think that they are that bad! The control placements are absolutely amazing. They actually do drive and handle quite well, the slightly wider rear track seems to give good stability. Very easy to drive, especially with the DSG gearbox. They used the Varioflex seats in the Karoq we had on Tweed Jacket Reviews back in December too!
Congratulations on 3k subs Mr Lloyd very well deserved. I’m on my second Roomster exactly the same as your reviews done and in silver. Best car I’ve ever had. Managed to get three beehives in the rear with the seats removed. The only gripe I have is that the parcel shelf doesn’t cover the whole boot, and I have to use a blanket to bridge the small gap. These have a chain driven cambelt so no belt to worry about replacing every 5yrs. Please keep up the good work.
Thanks ever so much indeed, Malcolm! I completely understand why you like these cars. I would need a higher specification myself, but this would probably be fine for a lot of people. I could see from Liz's car that the parcel shelf''s lack of coverage would be a bit of a problem with the seats in quite a number of configurations!
You can buy a cheap "bridge" for the rear of the Roomster, I have one. It is black, clips onto the parcel shelf and the rear headrests. It works very well.

Owned a fully loaded Roomster Scout for 9 years here in Bermuda with a 30 mph speed limit. Put 40,000 miles on it and totally loved it. Very comfortable, spacious and reliable. Just traded for a Kia EV, goodbye to gasoline at over $6 per gallon. Running on sunshine thanks to solar power.
Oh wow! That is fascinating, didn't realise that Bermuda was a market for Skoda. An electric car probably does make sense on an island like Bermuda. I am sure that the Roomster must have acquitted itself very well over that nine years of ownership. Thank you ever so much indeed for watching!
A nice sensible review, thanks! That particular engine (1.3 - 4 cylinder 105hp turbo) does have a chain only rather than a belt. I agree about cruise control. I'm about to buy a 2012 for my daughter in SR trim and I will be adding this for her. You can retro-fit cruise control on most VAG cars provided the original spec is high enough (which SR should be) Some very basic models might need an upgrade of one of the electronic 'boxes'. To add cruise control requires new indicator and wiper stalks, a new loom and some reprogramming. The loom for the Roomster is no longer available from Skoda but it should be found elsewhere with persistence. The parts come to about £180.
Yes, it has been a long time since I filmed this. I may be able to have a go in a manual one soon, actually. The later ones have a different 1.2 engine from memory. It is good that, if you are quite determined, you can add cruise control to the higher specification versions if you like.
If there is a more apt name than this then I have not come across it. Renault 21 Savanna possibly. My Brother, who is an MOT Tester, bought a 2011 Skoda Fabia Scout Estate for his wife and she and indeed he absolutely loves it. It is also this same colour, it is 6 Speed manual with cruise control. Yes, it does have an engine. He adapted a small table so that it mounts onto the rear of the car with the tailgate up. He and his wife can sit on the bumper and have their picnic completely under cover. The Definitive Sensible Second Hand Car. Excellent. Sensible Skoda at its most sensible. You don't often see these, in fact the Yeti seems more popular. Both are extremely practical with those clever rear seats and high roofline. That particular car must feel huge inside with that glass roof.
Oh yes, it's hard to get more sensible than one of these. If you sit in the back with the blinds retracted, the car feels like a minibus, it seems enormous! The practicality is almost second to none, cars like this don't quite exist any more, they tend to have been replaced by crossovers or van conversions...

It's actually a tricky question, as the 1.2 TSI engine changed part of the way through production, but I think that they are belt driven engines, whether they are the earlier or later type.
@@lloydvehicleconsulting thank you, I believe I have some investigation to do. I binge watch your video on the Skoda Roomster, very good insight into the car 🚗👍
Very practical car, similar idea to the Peugeot Partner/Rifter or Citroen Berlingo multi space, and give you an alternative to buying french. I haven’t seen many of these tbh, I’m wondering if the SUV market has anything to do with that.🤔 Certainly a vehicle I’d consider buying in the future.
I think at the prices they are now available, these must be worth considering to replace a number of MPVs which were on the market at the time. The Yeti was a lot more popular at the time, but has higher running costs. You are right about the SUV revolution...
An excellent vehicle Joseph, though like many skodas from this era the interior is a bit uninspiring. Some strange anomalies is specification for 2011, like having luxuries like a panoramic sunroof, electric rear windows and rear parking sensors as standard but no leather steering wheel. To my knowledge this is a chain cam engine, and this was the case until the Tsi became Euro6 compliant around 2015.
Yes, a strange specification on this particular car, I would prefer the SE Plus, I think. That would make the interior a bit nicer! The 1.2 TSI continued until about 2017, they may have changed the design of it in 2015 for Euro VI, as you say. Thanks again for watching, sir!
Hey there, thank you for this video. I am in the process of purchasing a 2011 Skoda Roomster Scout 1.2 S-A and I am really excited because I have always wanted one. Your video gave really good insight about specific features of the car. Any advice about the care and maintenance of the car?
Thank you for watching and commenting! I don't have a mechanic's channel really, so I don't have specific advice about care or maintenance of the car, there may be some other videos on this car on TH-cam from people who actually work on them. They are generally pretty reliable if the scheduled maintenance on them is carried out in good time.
It’s amazing how many of these I’ve seen since seeing you had one of these in review. It’s a Skoda where do you start? This the Yeti etc great vehicles built for a purpose with VWG powertrains, I’m also very fond of the early Skoda 130R Rapide also that animal the Kodiaq vRS, thank you Joseph.
Well, it is funny how many suddenly appear when you suddenly look out for them, isn't it? The Yeti has a similarly practical no-nonsense mindset, it is easy to see why people love them. I remember your Kodiaq vRS review!
Are they ok with higher mileage as am looking at one with 170k but seller says it takes quite a few goes to restart after engine is warmed up you hear of this pls???
Are the front seats in those higher than in a fabia? It's one of the considerations I have to make because my mum struggles to get up from normal height seats.
The rear seats are a little bit higher (although ridiculously easy to access) the front ones are more of a standard height, but could be a bit higher than a normal car. Certainly, the access on this is almost second to none for a car of its size.
Thank you ever so much indeed for watching! Yes, at current prices, they are actually something of a bargain. It actually drove far better than I was expecting too.
Sensible, practical, versatile. Probably an excellent buy..... .... but I’ve never been able to get over the looks. It looks like Homer Simpson designed it. But I suspect it is a marmite car. I have always thought all VW group engines were belt driven and had to be changed every.... 4 years?
Thank you, sir! Yes, styling not to everyone's taste, maybe just buy a normal Fabia? Not all Volkswagen engines have cambelts. Later research suggest this has a chain engine, as did the earlier 1.4 normally aspirated petrol in the pre-facelift Roomsters.
@@lloydvehicleconsulting Ah yes sir, my goldfish - what car are we buying this week - brain, had me looking at VW Golfs with the 1.4 turbo introduced around 2013-14. One of the reviews said “with the all new belt driven engines” so I think the newer small turbos need cambelt changes.

Maybe you could do a Sensible Secondhand review of a Mk2 Vauxhall Zafira ot a No Budget review of a Mk1 Zafira
Well, it depends if I get offered one, sir! I did two Astra Hs on Tweed Jacket Reviews, one belonged to my father-in-law and one was ours.
Another top review.
Thank you very much indeed! I had almost forgotten that I filmed it, to be honest.
Hi just a quick question, does this model Roomster have a cam belt or a chain?
It's actually a tricky question, as the 1.2 TSI engine changed part of the way through production, but I think that they are belt driven engines, whether they are the earlier or later type.
@@lloydvehicleconsulting thank you, I believe I have some investigation to do. I binge watch your video on the Skoda Roomster, very good insight into the car 🚗👍
@@debbieannisaacs2778 , no problem at all, we have lots more videos on the channel which you may enjoy too!
Very practical car, similar idea to the Peugeot Partner/Rifter or Citroen Berlingo multi space, and give you an alternative to buying french.
I haven’t seen many of these tbh, I’m wondering if the SUV market has anything to do with that.🤔
Certainly a vehicle I’d consider buying in the future.
I think at the prices they are now available, these must be worth considering to replace a number of MPVs which were on the market at the time. The Yeti was a lot more popular at the time, but has higher running costs. You are right about the SUV revolution...
Congratulations, bro!
Thank you ever so much indeed, Mr Franks!
I love my little Roomster.
They are pretty good, aren't they? Thank you very much indeed for watching.
Instablaster
Are they ok with higher mileage as am looking at one with 170k but seller says it takes quite a few goes to restart after engine is warmed up you hear of this pls???
That doesn't sound worth considering at all, to be honest...
@@lloydvehicleconsulting thank you!
I would just buy something else.
Thank you Mr. Lloyd.
Certainly a car worth considering.
@@colinhicks4174 , you are absolutely right! They modified the 1.4 TSI of this type to take a cambelt for Euro VI emissions regulations. The engine we had in our Toledo definitely had the famous "wet" timing belt!
The 1, 2, and 3 trim levels name sounds like a Kia trim level range
Exactly, I have always thought that. They got rid of the trim structure after the facelift.
Of anybody wants a diesel emgine the 1.9 TDI is the best by only 105 bhp compared to the 2.0 TDI but the 1.9 is the most reliable. You can always map it
It may be sir, but we don't talk about them on this channel, do we?
Whats wrong with diesel, is this the VW emissions thing?
Ultra Low Emission Zones, diesel particulate filters, massive crash in new sales, Clean Air Zones, political interference and all kinds of other reasons. We have been talking about this on the channel for over three years now.
@@lloydvehicleconsulting I am a newbie, kinda sorta. I bought my Automatic diesel c4 grand picasso 2008 in 2013 and like the the economy of diesel. I found my car quiet and very comfortable as tall, rotund man. I find more modern cars cramped and uncomfortable. I use my car, rather like a van, but it is now too expensive to fix. 2nd hand prices for automatic cars that fit me, and my needs are both uncommon and expensive
@@G7VFY , yes, secondhand car prices are very expensive at the moment. I am afraid that we have T-shirts now with the slogan "We Don't Talk About Diesels On This Channel", so I will have to stick to the rules, I am afraid. Not a massive fan of the C4 Picassos for the reasons you have mentioned, sadly, they tend not to be very reliable, which is a shame, as they are very spacious.
I think they really should have sold it as a van
They did! It was called the Praktik, but not sold over here. I think that I mentioned it at some point.
@@lloydvehicleconsulting no I meant that they should have sold the van version in the UK I just forgot to write that
Excellent sir! I agree, instead we got the Felicia Fun a few years earlier, but no proper van...
@@lloydvehicleconsulting the Felicia Fun would be an interesting view
@@terrificspokesman7416 , it would be if I could actually find one!
That looks a nice vehicle 🚗 but an advert less than 2 minutes in poor show 👎🏽
I am really sorry, but I don't have any control over where TH-cam place their adverts.
