My main vocal mic. It does need just a bit of EQ in the midrange and the top but luckily it takes that better than any condenser. I get a U47-like sound out of it on my voice with a touch of Siemens W295B EQ and a Neve 1073 pre.
there is no diaphragm. only a blast of air can damage the thin aluminum ribbon. It is protected slightly by a mesh in front and behind. General rule is if a candle would stay lit where you want to put the mic, then it's safe for a ribbon mic. Love your vids and enthusiasm for the RCA mics. I have 6 RCA's. 1 44bx, 1 77dx, 2 Varacoustics, and 2 sk-46's. Try to find some varacoustics, you will love them just as much. Please do more videos featuring music and singing etc with the 44.
My 60th b-day is this oct 24th I’ve been playing my guitar and singing. Since I was just 4 years old unfortunately at 22 I was offered a nashville contract they. wanted to change my name they had me going to a local music academy in Louisville and before signing a contract I couldn’t leave my new little family but continued with my love / craft. All I’ve ever had was my little sure sm58 to record sigh I can’t imagine having such high quality equipment , I really enjoyed your video thank you .
2:32 funny how people always lower their pitch when they get close in on the mic pretty consistently, the proximity of ribbon mics is great when people know how to use it, if you have headphones on or hearing through pa or monitors you will start playing with it immediately.
I need some advice, I picked up a 1950’s Trix microphone and have no idea how to plug it in, power it etc.. it’s based on a Reslo VMC but it has 2 pins on the back with an adapter plugged onto it. I think there may of been a cable attached to this adapter but nothing there now. I’ve tried to find information online but there’s absolutely nothing about this Trix Microphone which is strange
Took a bit to get used to the sound, but when you switched back to the other mic it was definitely off-putting - I wanted to go back to the RCA! Awesome
3:22 you certainly can use them on bass drums just angle them away and also feel where air blast might be coming out of the vent, keep it away from there! 44's are Super rich sounding and of course the rejection off axis is so usable I have made entire drum sets using figure of eight ribbons and use the Noe section carefully you can really get a great sound! Use a BK5 on the snare, those mics are made to handle a lot of sound pressure!
Used to use a Shure 33 something on stage in a band. Was cool because bass player and I could face eachother and sing backup on opposite sides into same mic!

Yeah, I believe the first ribbon microphone that was commercially introduced was the 44A, and was released in 1933. Still, even when released, many photographs and films from those times did not feature the Ribbon mic
I hate all of these tutorial videos because no one ever gives a finished example of the effect you’re trying to create. Ever thought that might be helpful?? 🙄

Use it on the beater side of kick...bout a foot -18" away, killer sound and safe. this tip came from John McBride of Blackbird Studios in Nashville.

retro meaning fake and what vintage meaning is real. The way you are using it is vintage microphone that is ribbon microphone.
