Such a better training course than what we have here in London. Here in the Met you're lucky to get your driving and/or taser within the first 5 years... absolutely no idea why we can't do it in our training school as well.
Yeah I've heard that, we leave college trained in Taser, Firearms, Driving, the whole lot. There is definitely further training and specialisation for tactical groups, motorcade etc but from your first day on the beat here you'll be trained to deploy with firearms if required and Tasers are standard issue. - Constable Hurn.
Hey guys! Awesome videos :) So I understand that to pass your driving tests, you need to qualify with a "silver class", however to partake as the driver in pursuits, you need to be a "gold class". What are the differences between Silver/Gold classes? Do you need to take a different series of tests to acquire the higher class? Is it possible to graduate Police College with a gold class or do you need to pass your probationary period to be able to do so? Apologies for the myriad of questions, this is something that I have wondered for quite a while :)
The highest class you can get when you graduate college is silver. Six months out of college you can do a few tests to get your gold class licence. You can drive in a pursuit with a silver class, although you will need someone with a gold class in the vehicle with you i.e your off sider. The gold class licence allows you to drive 1 up (single occupant) in a pursuit.
Give you the hot tip. They are a completely stock standard, white commodore, with a radio and light bar installed and some stickers. They may also have a data terminal which is basically a computer that they can use to look up information and receive written copies of the phone calls they are responding to... with everyone involved details, a mapping system and that's it. The most important component is the nut behind the wheel...
Doesn't exist anymore... least not in AUSTRALIA. Never did either except in highway patrol cars to improve the acceleration to catch speeders in a shorter distance or something but even that was done away with because it costs money and voids warranties and such.
@@stevepetrie4672 um. the ECU allows them to remove the keys but the engine will still run to keep power to the battery to run the lights radio but will shut off if you put it in drive.
Is training to become a police officer hard. I've been dreaming of being a police officer.ever since I was 3 years old but how hard was it to train to be a police officer.
Another great video. If I may, a few observations from an Aussie. 1. It's a shame you don't have a dedicated driver training complex. 2. At 3:16 I noticed the driver looking over his shoulder while reversing. We were taught to reverse (even on the reverse obstacle course) use mirrors only (many of our vehicles you can't see through any back window). 3. I have to tell you, having done this driver training back before cars had ABS and since, you really notice a difference in vehicle behaviour (more so than Joe Citizen driving in street traffic). 4. Seeing some drizzle on the track brought back memories. When we did ours we had to use hoses to make the track wet (it was so hot the track wetting system would just dry and evaporate too quick!). Best wishes
@ Lanz. Yes there are defensive driving course's available for civilian motorists which will teach handling skills in an emergency plus ordinary driving and observational skills. Not sure if this course is available to unlicenced prospective new drivers, but you can research this. I recommend this course. Robert. Former Ministry of Transport, Traffic Officer.
All of our frontline cars are autos, so while knowing how to drive manual is a helpful skill, it's not essential to know before you arrive at college :)
It's a shame the Met Police in London don't get trained to drive from the beginning or even get them tasered up. Now they have a big problem with lack of response drivers. Ridiculous how far behind they are in terms of getting their police officers skilled up to deal with the busy London street. Imagine officers are travelling to Immediate response calls and are stuck in traffic and red lights because they are not blue light trained.

Is there a particular driving course that is recommended to take (outside of police training) prior to sitting the driving test?

Wow, did this video come out?
Hey! Love the videos. Is the car on the left-hand side of the thumbnail new?
Cameron Hudson Yes that's the new ZB Commodore LT 2.0 Turbo. They started roll out around 2 months ago. Very nice to drive too!
I heard it's a 9-speed auto as well? :O
Thanks Cameron, and yep - they're the new cars that are slowly being rolled out.
Do these Auckland police recruits do their entire 16 weeks in Auckland or is this a pre course before Wellington?
This was a pilot Auckland-based Police College - so they completed their entire 16 weeks in Auckland. The second one is currently underway!

Are the newer commodores front wheel drive?
Indeed they are, well spotted.
do higher performance vehicle only for more experience police officer? talking about V8 Holden/Ford
No V8s, patrol cars are 6s. The driver has a rating and so does the vehicle ie gold class driver, A class vehicle (for pursuits).

why are all male cops in NZ clad in tattoos??
Because they're allowed.
Cause we’re married to the mob!
Is the car automatic or manual?
The standard patrol car is automatic although some specialist vehicles are manual.
Auckland Police TV specialist vehicles?
