There is a company in Poland that repairs Fuji GA's broken electronics:) My GA645 had a broken lens wires so they fixed it by making new ones.

When digital became mainstream my local camera shop had a batch of these Fufi GA645Zi cameras direct from Fuji UK . £249 each ,I bought two ,wish I bought the whole lot seeing what they go for now. They are such a great point and shoot MF camera ....not for everyone but brilliant for those who are happy with it's strengths and weaknesses.

I had a chance to try this camera out and shot several rolls through it and totally agree, it isn't the best, but it certainly is a fun and handy camera when you want a medium format point and shoot that can be tossed in a bag and taken out in the field.

Nice little medium format camera, I had one for a few years. It had good image quality and the zoom was good, but the major downside was that the focus could not be relied on. It works most of the time but sometimes a frame could be slightly out of focus (usually the frame you need lol).

I have two of these : a champagne one I got for nothing that was professionally loved (as in, coating worn off the faceplate where your fingers rest loved), and a black one as close to NOS as you could hope for these days. AF has rarely let me down on either (always when I’m rushing), and hoarding Fujifilm take-up spools has helped mitigate the fat roll issue. Yes it’s loud and I know a lot of folks are put off by the idea of a MF point-and-shoot for Y2K yuppies, but the first time I took one travelling I ceased to give a single h*ck. Love the images I’ve made with this guy and never want to be without one :)

I bought a GA645zi in 2008 and sold it in 2013. Clearly, I should have waited a few years before selling it. I took it on a trip to Italy in 2009 (it survived an archaeological dig in Pompeii!) and another European trip in 2012. I even had the tiny hood and soft cloth "case"! Ironically, it was a Fuji X digital camera that made me sell off my medium format film cameras (I still have large format film, plus my Leica M6, as I can't afford a digital M).

Anybody else notice the Fugufilm roll and the strategically placed blue and yellow film cases looking remarkably similar to oh I don't know, Kodak Gold, perhaps? (yes I am aware Kodak Gold doesn't have blue on it but perhaps it was the closest he could get. That or it is a subtle nod to what is happening in Eastern Europe).

It's a pity they didn't make a 45-90mm 6x6 version of this type of camera. I don't know how easy a 45-90mm would be to make but a square frame in the filmchamber should have been easy?

I wish that Fujifilm would revive a bit of this concept for their current MF line. Not the point and shoot aspect specifically, but a fixed lens zoom with a leaf shutter. Alternatively, they could make it their one and only “full frame” sensor camera.
That being said, I disagree that the camera is ugly. The GA645 prime lens camera looks like a space alien, but the ZI zoom lens version looks like a large rangefinder.

An MF camera with a small aperture lens makes no sense to me. That enormous bokeh is a great thing, but this lens produces very little. Of course, back then or if you make paper enlargements, or scan it in a very high resolution, than it makes sense.
