    Nice job !
    It's great to discover/learn more about our engine architecture. (here for me, injector seal replacement and installation. Never seen this before in any video) )
    Why you didn't tackle some other weak points of the N55 during this rebuild ? Cost maybe ?
    I'm thinking about the water pump (more difficult to replace while the engine is installed in the car)
    And install a protective plate behind the harmonic pulley to prevent damages if the serpentine belt is escaping.
    Finally, what is your exhaust ? It's sounds so sweet to my hears. Love it.

    • @SimpleCarGuy
      @SimpleCarGuy  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I mainly did this to learn exactly how engines work and to challenge myself to see if could do it. The cost was definitely a factor as I ended up spending basically the same as it would cost to buy a used engine (although with 90k miles). The water pump was placed less than a year before I got this car, so figured there was no reason to spend $400. The protective plate; however, was something I wish I installed, but at the time I didn't know those existed :).
      The exhaust is COBB cat-back exhaust:

    Can you explain at beginning of the video. When you started to fit bearing so you had two sets of bearing
    Sounds like you check clearance than you took off bearing than installed different bearing again.
    Not sure if I made sense 👍🏻

    • @SimpleCarGuy
      @SimpleCarGuy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For both main and rod bearings I used my new bearings with the old bolts to measure the gap and make sure the clearance was within spec using plastigage. I have a video on plastigage if you want to learn more. Once everything checked out, I put some assembly lube and using new bolts torqued everything to spec. Using new bolts is vital as these are stretch to yield bolts and if you use old bolts, you won't get correct torque figures.

    Hi ! Thank you for this awesome content ! Really enjoyed watching this !
    Just wondering if I can get some more precision for mainly two moments :
    1) around minute 10 => How did you chose that gap clearance ? (I mean why not larger or tighter eventually)
    2) around 16'14" or some few moments you've used a torque wrench to tighten that long bolt then you kept tightening it with a circle paper with angle => is there any reason/recommandation for that extra tightening such I've seen that no extra strengh should be put on after the torque wrench click ?
    Sorry if those questions have already been asked but I didn't see them prior and for sure, thank you for the questions !

      angle torquing is simply a more precise way of measuring ... so its not off. 70nm would be something like double that by doing 360. gap clearance is chosen by piston manufacturer. read manual for proper end gap... most brands are a little different than stock.

    • @SimpleCarGuy
      @SimpleCarGuy  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Most of the bolts on this engine are torque-to-yield, which means they stretch as torque is applied. To make sure the 'stretch' is exactly as it should be, BMW says to use a torque wrench and tighten it to, let's say, 90 lb ft of torque and THEN add additional 90 degrees of rotation. This is what that tool is for, it allows you to add addition rotation of torque to the bolt.

    You did injector the bed plate sealant wrong. Could possibly leak down the road.

    Ngl I wish I could do this myself, right now I got my 2010 535 seating in my garage with a bad engine. I prefer rebuilding it instead of buying a use sketchy engine online for $2,000… 🤦🏾 I’m having a hard time finding a shop that rebuild engines out here in the Lehigh valley Pa .

      Ideally, never. It’s not normally a serviceable item. If your front or rear seals are leaking, that’s the time to replace them.

    How much would u charge for this job and how much was the engine

    • @SimpleCarGuy
      @SimpleCarGuy  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't do this as a job, I just did it to see if I can rebuild an engine. The second engine I bought was $300 as it had a spun bearing which required a full rebuild because the crankshaft was damaged. It's not really worth it to pay someone to rebuild it as it's cheaper to buy a used engine.
