West Coast actually has a fascinating story...she was going around talking to different producers and asking them about collaborating with her on this track, but no one was into the fact that the chorus slows down instead of speeds up, that was basically unheard of. But she was so gung ho about it, that's what she wanted. So she kept searching. Finally, she stumbled upon Dan Auerbach (from the Black Keys), who was feeling was she was trying to do with it and decided to help her produce it, and then went on to help her with several songs on the album. You simply must listen to "Black Beauty" (and the others off the deluxe album).
"The other women" is a cover from another singer by Nina Simone. In my opinion, a legendary african american singer. Loved your honest and analytical reaction. This is my favorite album as well
The other woman was sang on a cheap microphone, they went to buy an old cheap microphone to make it sound VINTAGE old, Lana is heavily influenced by the 50s and 60s.

This album was produced by Dan Auerbach from The Black Keys, that's the reason for the rock sound. Lana had to rework the whole album after she met him, who convinced her to change the production. BTW "The Other Woman" is a cover of a Nina Simone song from the 50's. For me Ultraviolence and NFR are her best albums (: And there are a lot of female singers who has a similar style/sound or even more purposeful, like Angel Olsen, Sharon Van Etten, Weyes Blood, Cat Power, Snail Mail, Soccer Mommy but they are not as popular as Lana.
This album sounds even better on the vinyl version, it just sounds like pure rock and I love it you should get the vinyl version and listen to the bonus tracks like black beauty, Guns N’ Roses, Florida kilos and is this happiness

'Fucked My Way Up To The Top' was about Lorde, not Lady Gaga!!!! Lana made a song about Gaga called "So Legit" many many years ago after Gaga got big and left Lana in the dust. They later made up though because there are pictures of her and Gaga at an award show being friendly with each other and hugging. FMWUTTT was definitely aimed at Lorde because of what Lorde said in the press about Lana and things she talks about in her music: "Around the middle of last year I started listening to a lot of rap, like Nicki Minaj and Drake, as well as pop singers like Lana Del Rey. They all sing about such opulence, stuff that just didn't relate to me-or anyone that I knew," she said. "I began thinking, 'How are we listening to this? The dude singing in Brooklyn baby is Barrie James O'neil and he was her boyfriend at the time. He is a Scottish musician. It's fitting because she sings " Well my boyfriend's in a band, he plays guitar while I sing Lou Reid" and "Well my boyfriend's pretty cool, but he's not as cool as me".

The guy you hear singing with her in Brooklyn baby is Barry her ex-boyfriend she was engaged to him and you know how she dumped him? In an interview, poor guy didn’t even know they weren’t together until he saw the interview and saw that she broke up with him. Lana is a killer!!!
