When I’ve seen people react to born to die and it’s people who have never really listened to Lana before they all say they don’t like off to the races which is strange because collectively off to the races is a fan favourite song it’s def one of my favourites on born to die
Maybe because we all listened to her when we're like 14? People's music tastes are often shaped around that time. On top of that she performs that song as a closer every time she tours so that might further increase people's affection towards it further.
its definitely the best on the album for me. completely paints the cinematic sound and sets the tone for the rest of the album. and the way she uses her voice is unlike any other song she's released. some BTD tracks feel a lil corny to me but off to the races is CAMP
Born to die is such an amazing album by many factors, but at the time of its release in 2012 critics destroyed this album because either of lanas 2012 SNL performance or because this album wasn't what pop was at the moment and also cause of authenticity, which is so dumb because now those same people and much more have realized how influential this album truly is.
Lana del Rey created Billie Eilish and most of the 'sad girls' of the 2010s, her influence in music is crazy underated. You should totally check the rest of her discography
this album also has 3 great deluxe tracks, and a repackage called "The Paradise Edition" including her following album Paradise as like a Side-B to it. don't forget to check all of that out
Paradise itself also has a bonus track called "Burning Desire", so maybe you wanna check out "Born to Die: The Paradise Edition (𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗩𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻) instead? LOL
Lana is Carmen and also There’s 3 bonus tracks for this album, lucky ones lolita and without you. And there’s the ep called paradise which u def should react to
Diet mount dew is about the addiction of something how it’s bad literally like the soda but that’s really why she repeats herself everything she does is intentional.
@@adam.n-steve she literally says in the song “you’re no good for me but baby I want you” literally addicted to a toxic relationship or to other things.

a lot of the stories or woman talked abt in lanas music like carmen are her own experiences told in 1st 2nd and mainly 3rd person point of view so shes basically narrating her own life.
Since you liked National Anthem so much, you should watch the mv from this song. The monologue at the end is WILD! After all these years since the first time i saw it, i still think about it often 🤯💯 Love your reactions man!
Jaxson!!! My guy!! 🔥 it is such a pleasure to see your reaction in real time with National Anthem.. that's how I feel every time I hear it, and I've been listening to that song every year, multiple times, since 2012

she’s had a million stage names before sticking to lana, a couple are may jailer and lizzy grant. she settled on lana del rey right before starting born to die because of its elegance. and that’s the era she became famous, so it stuck.
Carmen is in reference to herself when she was young. She was addicted to alcohol as a teen and that why she was sent to boarding school (referenced in this is what makes us girls)
Love the video!! I was so relieved to see you like national anthem omg 😭 maybe we can see Ethel Cain next? She’s got a great album called Preacher’s Daughter

@@derni2221 Born To Die is a decent album. It sure does has its own highlights (The title track, Video Games, SS) but in my opinion she has released better projects within her career. Btd surely does have a lot of impact on the current soundscape but that does not makes a record "flawless" or sounding any better. I think that some sound ideas on this album hasn't aged that well, the lyrical content is not that impressive as in comparison to what someone might hear in her further released LPs. The production is good, it has a lot of memorable hooks and it's a pretty fun album overall but I don't think it's one or her best
Great video as always. As a lana super fan I'm not crazy about this album tbh. It's still early in her career and I feel like her voice and her artistry hadn't matured fully yet, there's just glimpses. I think you'll love "ultraviolence" and her newer work that's way more mature thematically "blue banisters" and "ocean blvrd"
You have to react to her latest album did you know that theres a tunnel under ocean blvd. It is a lyrical masterpiece and it was the first album of hers i heard and i was so impressed. It is probably her saddest album though
idk if you take requests lmao so my apologies if not, but one of the albums i can absolutely recommend considering you are a hip-hop fan is dummy by a trip-hop band from bristol called portishead who are also one of the prime influences for lana del rey’s sound. trip-hop has an atmospheric, downtempo, hypnotic sound and in the case of portishead, it makes use of stuff like drum breaks from vinyl records and fusing it with electronic sound resulting in a sound reminiscent of vibes from spy films. their lyrics are also pretty cryptic and indirect with interesting and abstract storytelling which draw me in to this day. thought i’d suggest.
idk why everyone in this comment section is acting like Paradise doesn't exist 😒 Ultraviolence is only technically her 3rd major-label album, not the following one
16:30 yep, this album and Lana is blueprint for all the pop girlies out there in the scene like from taylor to billie they all took inspo from her. And this album is very significant for 2010's pop scene and whole tumbler era
Lana and Lady Gaga would hang around together when they were teens. So some say it’s the nice version of her diss track of Gaga. But others say she’s talking about herself.
49:24 it's French 😂😂😂 It says: My love, I know you love me too You need me in your life You can't live without me And I'll die without you I'll kill for you 😅
Don’t judge California for what you hear online. Just like the generalization of Texas- it’s not true at all lol. California is a MASSIVE state. Larger than many countries. California is completely different every 150 miles. Central California is nothing like Southern California, Northern California is more like Oregon than it is the rest of California. Southern California past LA is completely different from LA. I’m from the Midwest, lived in the PNW for 8 years and now live in central California and it is by far my favorite place I’ve ever lived
The thing with Born to Die is that it's really hit or miss for an average listener. Her melodramatic baroque pop/trip hop fusion can really work like the title track or it can end up like Off to the races. The lyrics are also flimsy sometimes. Like it can be decently poetic and pretty but then you get 14 yo white girl on tunblr style writing with overusage of Americana reference. Overall, despite its flaws it's a decent record. Edit: I also think that her writing during this time lacks depth. Yes, we know how she feels. Yes, we know her boyfriend's a baddie but we don't know much on why she keeps dealing with his shit. This is something her later works tend to do better at imo. I assume this was Lana simply not having the experience as this is her first actual debut (note: Lizzy Grant did not have an actual physical release or promotion)
She sounds like Billie because she inspired Billie, billie even said that Lana inspired and “created” her
